Saturday 9.....

Don't Talk to Strangers

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: Don't Talk to Strangers (1982)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) When did you recently have a conversation with a complete stranger? What did you two discuss?  I can't remember having a conversation with a stranger.  I say 'hello' frequently to people I don't know, but no recent conversations come to mind.

2) In the video for this song, a woman is having a "hot" conversation on a corded, rotary dial phone in her bedroom. Do you have a landline? If so, do you have an extension in your bedroom?  Yes, we still have our landline and there is an extension in the bedroom.

3) This week's artist, Rick Springfield, says he wrote this song when he was worried that his girlfriend (now his wife) would cheat on him when he was touring. Would you describe yourself as suspicious or trusting?  I am trusting. Probably too trusting.

4) He became a daytime heartthrob as Dr. Noah Drake on General Hospital. Do you think it would be cool to have a really attractive doctor? Or would it make you uncomfortable?  I don't know that I have ever given 'having an attractive doctor' a thought.  My doctor of nearly 15 years is a woman.

5) He's discussed how sad he was when, as a boy, he had to leave his dog Elvis behind when the family left Australia. While you were growing up, did your family often move?  Not often. We moved when I was three years old and again when I was 10 years old.  Three houses in 18 years.  I've moved 10 times in my adult years.

6) In 1982, when this song was popular, Italy won the World Cup. Do you ever watch soccer?  Our son, Jeff, played indoor soccer and we watched his games.  I do not watch it on TV and am not a fan but we have quite a few very accomplished soccer players in the family....

7) "Smiley," the first emoticon, was introduced in 1982. Do you use emoticons in your communication? Or do you avoid them?  I use them frequently.

8) The Vietnam Memorial was dedicated in Washington, DC, in 1982. Do you know any veterans of that conflict?  Yes, I do.  If so, tell us about him or her.   My ex-husband was a Marine who did three tours in Vietnam.  My brother-in-law (Joe's younger brother) was also a Marine who went to Vietnam.  I can tell you that it affected them both in ways we can never understand.

9) Random Question:  Your friends are throwing a birthday "roast" in your honor. Which one quality of yours are you sure will be singled out for laughs?  Good golly, I haven't a clue.  My height...my curly hair....my big hind-end...my Irish-Scottish-German temper...

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks for your visit!!  Happy Saturday!  Peace & hugs.

  1. I can't even imagine the after effects of combat on our soldiers. It is a tough job they have to do and I am thankful for the sacrifices of them and their families.

  4. Not the song you referenced, but all I can hear in my head is, "I've done everything for you! You've done nothing for me!"

    Ah, Rick Springfield...

I didn't know that's why he wrote that song. He was a world-famous, handsome rock star and he was worried about that? ...

  5. Sorry to be dumb, but I guess Rick Springfield was after my time of heartthrobs. Hey, I am also Scotch-Irish-German...and a redhead...but I don't THINK I have a bad temper...just don't get me riled up! LOL. This was fun. So glad you are doing ok after the storm! We certainly were blessed and protected by the Lord!!

  6. Props to your BIL and 'ex' for their service! I know of two individuals who returned physically intact, but not so mentally.

'Thanking God (that) my son and other veterans of the Gulf wars are being afforded the kind of care and appreciation those of our generation were not.

  7. Marvin plans to watch the Viet Nam Series on PBS. I don't think I can watch it. I would have flashbacks to the nightly news when I was growing up. Please thank Joe for his service in a war that was so unpopular here in the US.
