It's a Man's, Man's, Man's World
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: It's a Man's Man's Man's World (1966)
Since Labor Day was introduced to celebrate the American worker, we are highlighting the hardest working man in show business: James Brown.
2) What job have you enjoyed the most? The one I have now, or I wouldn't have stuck around for 20 years!
3) James loved performing and in the mid-60s, played 335-350 dates/year. Do you have time off this weekend? Yes. Or will you be working? I've spent most of my working life employed by nonprofits. The pay isn't great, but the benefits are fantastic, with generous vacation and sick time as well as holidays off. I can't complain.
4) With that grueling schedule, James spent a lot of time on the road. Do you enjoy traveling and staying in hotels? Or are you a homebody who prefers to sleep in your own bed? It is always fun to set out on a trip and I do enjoy staying in hotels. It is also always good to get home though. I would not enjoy being on the road most of the year.
5) While Millennials are the largest generation in the workforce, millions of Baby Boomers are still part of American labor. Do you think it's easy or hard for people of different generations to work together? Or don't you think age matters? It has not been a problem at my work, but we are a small staff of very talented (mostly) young people who surprise me with their creativity and drive. The art world is a great place to live! :) I'm sure it is different in bigger for-profit companies.
6) 72% of employers report that they give their employees sick days. Tell us about a time when you called in sick, but weren't. The only times I've called in sick and wasn't sick are the times Joe has been sick. We are allowed to use our sick leave to stay with immediate family members who are sick. I don't abuse it because it is such a blessing.
7) According to the 2010 Census, 5.9 million Americans regularly work from home. Is working from home something you have/you would enjoy? Or do you benefit from interaction with coworkers? I've never worked from home and am not sure I would have the discipline to do it (that sleeping in thing, for starters), and yes, I enjoy interaction with my coworkers (and the art!).
8) 12% of workers report they prefer to report for work early -- before 7:00 AM -- so they can get more done. Are you a morning person? Our "official" hours are 8:00-5:00. I am at work by 7:00 every morning and leave around 4:45 each afternoon. I am a morning person, but can't wait to retire and not have to get up at 5:00 a.m. Yes, I could change my routine and arrive "on time" at 8:00, but I really enjoy that hour before everyone else starts coming in (well, there are a few who get here at 7:15 and 7:30).
9) The NFL season starts on September 8. How do you think your team will do this year? I'm an Eagles fan by marriage. I know they have done well in pre-season and I always hope Joe's teams will win. I'm not a football junky but I do enjoy watching it with him. I grew up in central Ohio and all we had was The Ohio State Buckeyes (no pro teams in Columbus). I remain true to my Buckeyes, though am not as attached as I was back in the Woody Hayes days.
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Before he was able to support himself as a musician, James Brown shined shoes, boxed, picked peanuts and delivered groceries. He admitted he didn't enjoy any of those jobs. What was your least favorite job? As an adult, I've liked all of my jobs so I have to reach back to my teen years and my least favorite job was babysitting my siblings. Both of my parents worked (looking back I am thankful!) and I had to "be in charge" much more often than I wanted to be in charge (I was the first-born). There were times I could have been having fun but had to be at home instead. I have a different view of it now, but sure disliked it then.

Thanks for stopping by today!! Wishing you a great weekend! Peace & hugs.

Enjoyed your answers, Terri. Have a beautiful day friend.
ReplyDeleteI lack the discipline to regularly work from home. Too many distractions!
ReplyDeleteWe run our online business out of our home. It is nice to work in your pajamas. lol
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
I am a morning person as well Terri. Like you, when I worked I got there early so I could ease into the day! Hope you and Joe have a good long weekend.
ReplyDeleteAs you said, it is such a blessing that you can use your sick days to care for Joe, when it has been needed. That and the other benefits you listed are valuable.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, but this has my thought-wheels going! You're very blessed to work with great team of passionate folks.
ReplyDeleteMy present circumstances - working for a HUGE corporation - are very different, but I remember (and miss!) the camaraderie and synergy found with a small team. Funny. The very BEST and worst job experiences I had were for the same company. It's so true what Mother Teresa said about you never forgetting the way people make you feel.
Have a wonderful (dry?) day!
All I can think when I see his picture is: YOW!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite job was working for ATC Account Staffing (now Modis) in Jacksonville. I was assigned work at so many interesting companies, met new people, learned dozens of new accounting skills. And I made as much or more than the actual full-timers and take off pretty much whenever I wanted. I had lots of repeat customers too. Loved it! ~:)
ReplyDeleteHappy Labor day to you and Joe!
ReplyDeleteI am not a morning person, but like you, I do appreciate getting started and getting done on time.
