An Oldie for Saturday 9.....

It's Saturday and we have Crazy Sam Winters to thank for this week's Saturday 9.  Join us!!

September in the Rain

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: September in the Rain (1956)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song refers to "leaves of brown." Can you see any leaves outside your window?  Yes.  What color are they?  Green.  This is Florida.

2) It also mentions whispered words of love. What did you say last time you lowered your voice?  I don't have a loud voice and don't remember what I said or when my tone of voice was any lower than usual.  Sorry for the lame answer.

3) Clearly this song is about a treasured romantic memory that took place in autumn. Think about your favorite romantic memory. In what season did it take place?  May.

4) This week's featured artist, Julie London, was famous as a singer and actress. Less prominent in her bio is her appearance as a "pin up girl" in Esquire magazine when she was just 17. What's in your resume that you'd prefer to de-emphasize or gloss over?  I don't put my high school summer jobs on my resume, but not because I'm ashamed of them.  I worked in an ice cream parlor and I cleaned rooms in a motel during my teen years.

5) Julie recorded more than 30 albums and was named "most popular female vocalist" by Billboard magazine in 1956. If you could see any entertainer -- male or female -- in concert, who would you choose?  The most fun I ever had at a concert was to see Bette Midler, so I would for sure go see her again.

6) She became well-known to another generation when she appeared in the 1970s TV show Emergency! The younger actors credited her for keeping everything calm on the set. Who has a calming influence on you?  I don't get wound up often, but when I do it can be intense.  Ha! Joe can calm me down and make me take a step back (and I can do that for him when necessary).

7) Her Emergency! costar was her husband, Bobby Troup, and the show was produced by her ex-husband, Jack Webb. Do you have an ex that you're on very good terms with?  Kinda, sorta.  I was married for 10 years to Bill.  It was an amicable divorce.  We aren't in touch, but he came to my brother's funeral (13 years ago) and Joe got to meet him and his mom, who also came. I hugged them both.  I loved his parents and felt worse about losing them in my life than in losing him. I was 16 when we met and he was just home from Marine Corp boot camp, headed for Vietnam.  I graduated from high school in May (two years later) and we got married in December 1970.  Vietnam changed him. That's all I can say about that.  I was single for a couple of years before I met Joe.

8) Julie was a chain-smoker since she was a teenager and in the 1950s recorded a jingle for Marlboro cigarettes. Yet in the 1970s, when she saw Bobby Troup's health negatively effected by smoking, she pressed him to quit. Tell us about a time you found yourself in a "do as I say, not as I do" situation. Losing weight. Up and down, up and down.  That "do as I say" thing is talking to myself.

9) Random question: You have won an all-expenses paid trip to an exclusive resort in  Hawaii. When you get there, you discover that the private beach is bathing suit optional. Do you swim nude?  Nope, no, negative.  I would scare the others off the beach!  LOL  Now maybe if I was 21 again.....

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

That's it for today!  No plans for this weekend, but we may have to find something to do since all we did was slug around last weekend.  I'll keep you posted!!  Thanks for your visit!  Peace & Hugs!

  2. I can only imagine how Vietnam changed the young men who served there.

A Bette Midler concert would be fun, I bet.

    Have a lovely weekend!

  3. I think it's refreshing that your divorce was amicable and he honored those family ties when your brother passed. It makes me sad when having once loved someone means you can no longer like them.

  4. Leaves here in NJ are still green but Fall temps are finally here so I'm sure they will turn soon.
    Have a great weekend!

  6. Terri, your answers are always good. I don't seem any of them as lame. It is what it is sometimes. That's great to be on amicable terms. The only time I ever saw Bette Miller was at a Walden's bookstore many years ago.

  7. You're the second person I've heard speak praises about a Bette Midler concert! After FINALLY getting to see Barry Manilow last year (Bucket List top 10), I swore off attending any more concerts on account of the crowds. But DH really likes her, so I'm going to see if Phoenix isn't on an upcoming tour.

May was a Very Important memory for me as well.

  8. I remember Julie London, more for her role on Emergency that for her singing. I love to her Bette Midler sing, I bet she does put on a great show.

  9. Well, that was fun! I wouldn't skinny dip either. Just my opinion, but I feel like it's a part of the immaturity in our country these days, like tattoo's, piercings, murdering babies, etc. Bette Midler does have a lovely voice. I would have enjoyed hearing Julie Andrews in concert. I think she's one of my favorite singers. ~:)
