Weekend Rundown on Monday....
This post will have to be continued, but I'll start....
Friday night, around 5:30, we got a call from my sister to tell us their car had broken down, 23 miles from our house. They hit one of those big truck tires that had broken off, and it must have knocked something off under the car or caused something to become dislodged. There was smoke coming from under the hood and it was making a 'funny' noise. They didn't have AAA, but we do so off we went to the rescue!
They made it to a truck weigh station, so they were safely off the road and had access to restrooms. Since it was the Tampa rush hour, it took as awhile to get there, get turned around and headed back in the right direction. We found them around 6:15 and promptly called AAA to give us a tow back to Lakeland and our mechanic's shop. That's when the "fun" started. First they said someone would be there by 7:30, then it was 8:30, then it was by 9:45. We sat there for over three hours. We were all getting cold and hungry but kept our spirits up talking and catching up. The driver finally arrived and got us to the mechanic (closed for the weekend).
We had expected to order pizza for our dinner Friday night, but since it was 10:00 when we got home, we made sandwiches, settled a bit and then went to bed. Whew!
We expect to hear from Total Car Care this morning and have our fingers crossed that the repair won't be too costly. Please, God.
Saturday, we stuck close to home. Bruce was pretty tired after the long day on Friday and the stress of the break-down. His health is still fragile. Tammy and I did get out for a little shopping trip. I put a pork roast in the crock pot which turned out delicious (if I may say so myself). Mashed potatoes and green beans and a salad topped it off for our dinner. We had ice cream for dessert.
Sunday, they wanted to visit our local flea market. I made pancakes and sausage for breakfast (eggs and bacon yesterday). We spent a couple of hours at the flea market and we all found some goodies to bring home. That makes it even more fun! When we got home, Bruce took a nap, Joe worked on doing their tax return for them, and I made some banana bread. I also started the laundry and some spaghetti sauce for our dinner. I cooked some ziti and made a salad which everyone seemed to enjoy.
I have a doctor appointment this morning at 8:00 and then have to go to work. We'll have our guests for another night or maybe two, depending on the car and repair. Joe will have his therapy at 9:30. He sees the cardiologist on Tuesday, to check on the heart. We believe it has stayed in normal rhythm, but will find out for sure tomorrow!
In spite of all the craziness, we had a good weekend. I haven't taken one photo. Not one. Perhaps later tonight I'll get them to pose for one! So...to be continued!
As always, thanks for checking in today! Peace & hugs.

The frustration of car breakdowns. You sounded more patient than I would have been. Isn't the point of AAA is to not have to wait? See, I'm getting worked up for you all. Sounds like a fun weekend in spite of the waiting around for a car to be fixed. Your menus are the kind of food I prepare when guests are over. Good luck on your appointments this week. I'm trying to fight which I think is a sinus headache or something. Things are a blooming here in NC so pollen is at its highest. Ughhh!
ReplyDeleteRegardless of the break down, it sounds like you have a nice visit. Keeping you all in prayer, friend. Blessings
ReplyDeleteUgh on car breakdowns. Hopefully it will be a cheap quick fix for them. Other than that it sounds like you everyone is having a good time. Enjoy the rest of their visit.
ReplyDeleteTerri, you "roll with the punches" so well. I am both impressed and instructed. Thanks for sharing the ups and downs of life with us.
ReplyDeleteOh man... that is so aggravating having car issues.
ReplyDeleteI hate when AAA has you wait so long. At least it wasn't horrible weather & you had bathroom access. That would make that time even longer!!!
If it had to happen, glad it happened close by! On the bright side, they got to extend their visit and sounds like it turned out to be a great week-end. Two things that can stress me out is a car that won't run and a toilet that won't flush!! lol Sincerely hope all goes well with the car repairs and the cost is not too much.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sorry your guests had car trouble, but, at least it was not too far away. I hope the repairs are within reason. At any rate, I'm sure y'all are having a nice visit, which will go by too quickly.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week!

Oh my goodness. That is some real stress. I'm thankful you were close enough to go get them and take care of them. All that food sounds really good. Hope everything gets taken care of and that you have a good report on everything to,or row.
ReplyDeleteTerri, you've my vote for the "Energizer Bunny" of the year award! That's pretty neat how you four were able to de-stress together!
ReplyDeletePS - Sending good thoughts and fingers crossed re. Joe's cardiologist appointment. My DH sees his own cardio tomorrow morning as well. (With his 'stable' of specialists, I've just taken to calling them all "ists.")
hope your doctor appointment went well. praying for your husbands appointment.
ReplyDeleteOh,my....what an eventful weekend. "The best laid plans".....Hope your appointment went well. Looking forward to Part 2!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're enjoying your company and finding a bright side. Car trouble is the worst, particularly when traveling. Hope everything went well with the doctor today.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have been able to spend time with them, and so glad that Bruce is doing well enough to make this trip. I hope the car repair is reasonable.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear things didn't go quite to plan but sounds like you still had a good weekend. Hope the doctor's appointment goes well
