Monday Mishmash....
We had a good weekend. Saturday I did some much needed post-Christmas cleaning. We went to church where we said goodbye to the Christmas liturgical season. Ordinary time begins this week for we Catholics. After Mass, we went to Panera Bread for dinner and had the pick-two. I love their broccoli cheddar soup. Then we went to Publix for a few things we needed - short list this week.
Yesterday, I decided our pantry had to be cleaned out and reorganized. I am ashamed and embarrassed at the number of things in there that had gone way beyond the expiration date on the package. Happy to say nothing in there now has expired, each shelf is specific to content and I used a couple of old cookie sheets on two shelves so that I can easily pull it out and see what is behind things. It's just laziness that I push new items onto the shelves and the old get lost at the back of shelves, never to be seen again (until a day like yesterday).
Have any of you tried the new Duncan Hines Perfect Size cake mixes? They are really good and provide just the right amount of goodness for two of to enjoy over a weekend. I can highly recommend them! Yum!
Of course, Sunday is always laundry day.
Last week, I went to lunch with my boss and a co-worker. My boss drove us downtown. On the way back to the Museum, we had to stop on Lake Morton Drive to allow the ducks, geese and Ibis to cross the street. Lake Morton is a bird sanctuary just yards from the Museum, and the fowl have the right of way, always. It is actually sometimes nice to have to stop and let them march by. Makes us slow down and appreciate the beauty around us. I deleted a parked car and a person from the photo. Since it has been altered, it won't enlarge much, but you can see what happens on a daily basis, several times a day, around our lovely Lake Morton. The Queen of England gave two swans to Lakeland, after WWII. The blood line from those two swans continues on... The last time I heard a number, there were 80 swans on Lake Morton.
Football was on the TV all day yesterday, with Joe front and center. I just asked which team "we" were for and was happy if he was happy. I can't get too excited about it. His Eagles aren't in the running for the Super Bowl, so I always have to ask which team he wants to win.
That's all I have for today! Thanks for stopping by and I wish you a good week ahead! Peace & hugs!

We have flocks of these guys in our neighborhood. I looked out one day and my back yard was covered with them! Funny!
ReplyDeleteI have used those Duncan Hines mixes. They are a perfect size for Mom and me and they are really good and no baking pan to wash!
I have to play the "name that food" game occasionally in my fridge. I sympathize with your problem. I had to take out a few expired items from my cupboard a few weeks ago.
Well, Linda, we finally have our winter here! 38 degrees this morning! Okay, I'm satisfied. We can go back to 70s now. Have a great day.
I love the Canadian geese here and the constant honking they do---I do believe they have finally flow south for the winter. Hmm...I do believe we have science experiments growing in our fridge---the guys won't eat leftovers and then they wonder or say, 'There's nothing to eat!"
ReplyDeleteVery cold here and snowing, Terri. Expecting upwards of a foot by the time it is all said and done sometime this week. Not complaining, it is winter, after all.
Have a beautiful Monday friend.
There are a bunch of swans at the State Park here. They look so pretty swimmimg.
ReplyDeleteI cleaned out my pantry a few weeks ago. I had a lot of expired too.
Enjoy your day!
Oh, we have so much in common....broccoli cheddar soup....oh, my, that's a BIG favorite of mine, too! Cracker Barrel has really good (except I never know what day they'll have it) and so does Ruby Tuesday!! Love that you work so close to the bird sanctuary...how wonderful...and I agree about having to slow down...something I find I do much more in my old(er) age!!! ;-) Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteLove your new background, so pretty. I have not noticed the new cake mixes but I will sure be looking for them now. Mr D was watching football too, I watched our Houston Texans get beat and then I was done with football. Isn't it a great feeling to get something cleaned out and re-organized. It is for me. Like your cookie sheet idea, I might try it, next time I do my pantry!! Have a great Monday.
ReplyDeleteI cleaned out the cabinets, not so long ago. I threw out a bunch of expired things, as well.
ReplyDeleteI've purchased one of those new "perfect size" cake mixes, but haven't tried it yet. Ed and I are trying to be good :)
I love that the fowl have the right of way :) Good for them!
Have a great Monday!
Kathy (from Reflections)
We try to be "good" Monday - Friday, then we eat whatever we want or crave on the weekend. The little cake is much better than making a 9x13 size!!
DeleteIt is nice to see the swans...birds of any type fascinate me, and I, like you, would have to stop and watch as they meander across the road. Hoping the new week will go by fast and that will be 1 more toward retirement....lol
ReplyDeleteThe swans are lovely, and you're right, it is nice to slow down and enjoy the show. My team is (and always has bee)the Packers, and yes, I was front and center, too. I did get a little sewing done (1st time I've sat at my machine since June) during the Seahawks game, but I had it on in my sewing room so I could watch the replays. I'll miss football season when it ends. Have a great week. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteMy pantry is in need of a clean out too. I like your cookie sheet idea!
ReplyDeleteWe dodge the Canadian Geese around here...
