I was able to attend a breakfast, this morning, with three other co-workers, at our Lakeland Center. It was the annual meeting of Career Source Polk, which is a local employment and career development service, funded by state and federal funds, to get people back to work. They give awards out to companies that have been judged a "Best Place to Work". There are categories for small, medium and large businesses (but none for non-profits, which we mention to them now and then).
The keynote speaker this year was from Lakeland's new Amazon Fulfillment Center, which just opened their doors last week. They hired 500 full time employees, which was a great thing for our county. It was interesting to learn about Amazon as a place to work. They have great benefits, including 95% tuition reimbursement for attending college. That is pretty amazing.
There were over 1,000 people attending the breakfast. It was very crowded, but still a nice group. Their theme was "Taking Flight" so everything was airplane-oriented, which was kind of cute. They even had an airplane in the banquet hall!
The air plane, at the entrance doors.
Flight attendants (not really) giving instructions.
I have several meetings today, but am happy to not have any big projects that I have to stop working on, so I can attend the meetings. I usually find meetings unproductive and time consuming. Wish they could be shorter and something would get accomplished.
Tonight is my facial night. I so look forward to relaxing and catching up with my friend (and Aesthetician) Dawn. She has a new cat, named Purr-el, and I am looking forward to hearing how she is doing with her new home and brother, Hollis. She has been texting me photos. We cat people enjoy talking about our cats! Ha!
Tomorrow, we are heading out for Naples, FL, to spend the weekend at Kathy & Jim's, and with our two grandchildren. Lauren will also be there. Kathy has a little birthday party planned for Joe, on Saturday evening. I'll have photos to share, but will probably not be on Blogger or Facebook too much this weekend. I will have to play catch-up again.
That's all the tidbits I can think of today. Thanks for checking in!! Peace & blessings!

Sounds like you stay busy--but happy... That breakfast sounded neat --and I've always heard good things about Amazon. We fought getting them in our state because we now have to pay taxes when we order from there. BUT--that will probably happen no matter where they locate since the Obama Administration is TAXING us all to death... I do like Amazon --and order from them A LOT.
ReplyDeleteHope you have fun in Naples... I used to live in Venice MANY MOONS AGO.... Loved that part of Florida...
Hugs,
Betsy
The breakfast looks like so much fun! Sounds like a good day and weekend all around. Have fun checking out Purr-el (cute name) and have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeletePlease wish Joe a Happy Birthday from me! :-)
That is great news about Amazon. I buy from them lots!
Have fun in Naples, and be safe!
Happy Labor Day!

I remember seminars and meetings from way back when! Enjoy your trip to Naples this weekend, and give Joe happy birthday wishes from Tennessee. Will look forward to pictures.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a lovely weekend, Terri, and that Joe enjoys his birthday party. I think all of us animal lovers enjoy talking about our pets. That's how I was able to start many conversations with complete strangers when in England. If they had their dog with them... Next thing you know we're chatting up a storm!
ReplyDeleteDid Amazon discuss the use of drones? Last week there was something on the news I think where people were complaining that it was so tough to work for Amazon, the pace was so grueling. I suspect part of it is that a lot of people don't like work, period. I now that's unkind, but...
But...it's the truth!! Yes, they did show a video of a drone delivering a package. I just can't imagine. Someone at our table said they would probably wet their pants when they see it approach their house. I wonder what's to stop someone from using a butterfly net and capturing it?! I'm sure they are trackable, but .......
DeleteOooh! Time with the Grands....sure to be fun. Happy Birthday wishes to Joe, and have a safe and fun journey. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed....I love cats!!!! Enjoy your visit with family!
ReplyDeleteKudo's to the meeting planners, sounds like they did a terrific job. Glad to hear it was productive.... you forgot to mention how the food was rated!!!!
ReplyDeleteBreakfast was delicious! All the usual, eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, fruit, coffee and orange juice...oh and grits and sausage gravy with biscuits. I didn't have the gravy & biscuits, but had a little of everything else.
DeleteI know exactly how you feel about meetings. I used to drift off as they droned on and on. Hope everyone enjoys the weekend, especially the birthday boy's celebration. Looking forward to seeing the photos.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great breakfast meeting. Very interesting. I should go for regular facials, do you think they help? Sounds like some great weekend plans....enjoy!
