Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 172

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 172

From our host, Joyce:  Welcome to the last week of Hodgepodge for the month of April. If you'd like to play along in this fun weekly meme, feel free. Answer the questions on your own blog, then hop back HERE tomorrow (Wednesday) to add your link to the party.  See you there!

1. April showers bring May flowers or so the saying goes. Are you blooming where you're planted as we begin the month of May?  Yes, I am most certainly blooming in Lakeland, Florida! I love, love, love it here, and have for nearly 25 years (this coming July).

2. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being no big deal, and 10 being full scale panic, rank your fear of spiders.  Usually a 1, but if it is one of those BIG fuzzy ones, then let's go to a 3.  I have no trouble grabbing the nearest weapon, whatever it might be, and squashing them. Charlotte's Web is not a favorite movie! LOL

3. May is National Salad Month (who knew???)...besides lettuce, what are two must-have ingredients in your favorite salad?  Tomatoes and some feta cheese!

4. I mentioned on my blog last week that my Daughter1 will be moving to Washington State after she is married. Of the following sites in the Northwest, which would you most like to see in person-Crater Lake (Oregon), Seattle (Washington), Vancouver (British Columbia), San Juan Islands (Washington),  Mt. Rainer (Washington) Oregon Coast (Oregon), Mt. St. Helens (Washington), or Olympic National Park (Washington)  Gosh, none of those are really on any of my lists of places I want to see, but I guess I would probably enjoy Seattle, for a short visit. I don't like the cold or snow; I don't ski; I can't hike anymore (bad knees) - so I could go to Seattle and ride up in the space needle for a nice view. Personally, however, I could really care less about going anywhere out that way.

 5. This coming weekend marks the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby...when did you last race (literally or figuratively) to cross a finish line?  I'm still running that race - to get next year's budget approved. We have a BIG lunch meeting today, with the entire committee responsible for approving the budgets. Wish us luck!!

6. What is something little you love?  Are my cats little enough?  How about k-cups for the Keurig? I LOVE my coffee and those little gems. I love my little home, even though I wish I had one more room.  How little is little?  I'm 6 feet tall - somewhat statuesque...lots of things (and people) are 'little' to me...

7. Would you say you are more of a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner? Elaborate.  I am a more visual learner, I think. Show me how it works and that's usually all it takes. I am good at reading and following directions, though. Seems like there is some auditory that goes along with visual learning, most of the time. It rarely happens in silence.  I think there is also a place for kinesthetic learning, too....if you show me how it's done, while talking to me, the next step would be to have the student (me) do it myself while being watched or coached.  Sometimes you need to  physically perform, in order to learn or understand. I'm sure jumping off a cliff or our of a plane might be something requiring a more kinesthetic approach.... goodness. Just show me and I'll try it. LOL  Visual!!

8.  Insert your own random thought here. That last question made me stop and really think about how I learn best. I still think it really depends on what it is that is being taught, though! I'm going to look forward to reading how everyone else answered #7!!

Wishing you a good Wednesday! We're halfway to the weekend!! Hard to believe we are at the end of April already. Whhhoooshhhh goes the year!

  1. The year does seem to be moving along all too quickly. Seems like just yesterday the hot summer of 2013 was gone and now it's approaching summertime temps of 2014? Already?

Your answer to #7 is in depth and well thought out!!! Yours, visual, and mine hands on...I mentioned that watching an exercise video has me bumfuzzled 'cause it's all backward...watching someone demonstrate using their left leg...when viewing it, it is on my RIGHT side I see. lol

  2. I'm a hands on learner too. I like to be shown then try it myself.

I'd like to see out West, mainly the National Parks.

Spiders don't bother me. My son was really into insects when he was younger so we use a Bug Bubble (tongs with a plastc bubble) to relocate them outside.
    Have a great day!

  3. I had never used a Keurig until we visited our daughter and her family in Indiana. What a little miracle machine - but, to tell the truth, it doesn't deliver me a big enough cup of coffee. LOL And I do wish you luck with the budget issue. So glad that's not me. And so glad you love Florida. I bet I could get used to it there too. :-)

    1. Judy, instead of 2 cups a day, I have 4!! LOL Our machine (and the one at work) have three levels. I think they are 5, 7, and 9 ounces. I always push the 9 ounce button for my mug. And I love that I can have a cup of decaf at night, without making an entire pot. Tea, hot chocolate, chia latte, spiced cider....so easy and convenient! I even heard there will soon be soups!

  4. We love our Keuring and K-cups, too! Love the convenience! If you're 6', then I'd defintiely be little in your eyes with me being 4'11" Hey, like they say...good things come in small packages! :)

  5. Gook luck with your budget 'race'. We like our Keurig because I don't drink coffee and my husband does. He can make himself a cup quickly and easily. I do like it for tea and cocoa. :) Enjoy your sunshine!

  6. You know - I can tell that you are blooming in Florida. Your love of your area shines though.
Good luck on your race! :)

  8. Loved reading your answers today. I keep looking at that Keurig coffee maker in the store, but I'm still not sure I'd like having one. Everyone I know that has one say they love it.

  9. Love, love your answers. I also keep looking at the Keurig, but I doubt we will get one. Blessings

  10. I have never tried feta cheese. It's on my list of things to try in 2014 though.

    Blessings~

  11. I learn by trial and error, but mostly error! Seriously, I think I'm a visual learner too. Before I read the questions, I was wondering if one of the questions might be about today being National Adopt a Pet Day but no. I'd love to visit all those places mentioned I think as long as they didn't involve a lot of walking.

  12. I love feta cheese. It is a real treat when I get it. Learning no matter how is really the important part.

  13. Is Lakeland any where near Winter Park? My son is in attending college in Florida and his apartment is in Winter Park.
I hope you aren't in the flood area that the news is reporting!!

  15. I get a little squeamish about squishing big bugs. But if I have to I have to. Put the ol' big girl panties on. Good luck with the budgets.

  16. We still don't have a Keurig. I like them, but also enjoy making a whole pot of coffee. I guess I could have both. Hope you are staying safe from the horrible weather Florida has been getting!

  17. I enjoyed reading the answers to the questions. I would love to have a Keurig and have come close to getting one several times, most likely will one of these days. Hope you are out of the way of all the heavy rains and flooding there my sweet friend. Hugs
