While we wait....
Joe and I attended Good Friday services at the First United Methodist Church, last night. We wanted to be there (as mentioned in yesterday's post) for our friend (and my co-worker), Gregory, as his latest sculpture was introduced to the congregation.
The church is building on. They are doing a $12 million expansion, and it is only a block away from the Museum, where I work. The pastor asked Gregory to make a cross for the entry to the new building, out of scraps that would otherwise have been thrown away. Gregory used part of an I-beam. The pastor then built his message around the cross, being made beautiful from scraps destined to be thrown away, sculpted from the hands of an artist. In the same way, Christ takes sinners and makes them whole again. That is simplifying it, but you get the idea. It was a lovely service, and Gregory sat with us.
Gregory is the 'techie' guy I talk about all the time. The picture of the cross, below, is from his website. You may visit his website to see more of his art. He is a sculptor and a photographer, and a good teacher. He has lots of good information (recommendations) on his website, too, that you might find helpful. He is also the Museum's computer guru. You can trust his recommendations and judgement on computer and photography equipment.
We invited Gregory to join us for Easter dinner. His dad is a retired Methodist minister and his folks live in North Carolina, so we consider Gregory part of our extended family here. Gregory runs the sound system at the church, during the contemporary service. He said Easter usually gives him a migraine, so he isn't sure he will be able to come for dinner. The fragrances of the Easter flowers give him headaches (as they do me, if I get too close). I hope he is able to join us.
I will be cleaning and starting to prepare dinner today, and we plan to attend the Easter Vigil Mass at 8:30 p.m. Looking forward to the joyful celebration of the Resurrection tomorrow! The darkness will have ended!! Hallelujah!!
Wishing you a blessed Easter! Thanks so much for stopping by! Peace, love & hugs.

Your techie is one talented gentleman. Your statement ' the darkness will have ended' is perfect. Happy Easter and thank you God for dying for us.
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter. I love the cross. What a talented person he is. Blessings
ReplyDeleteI am truly impressed with your friend, Gregory. I went to the link for him. He is definitely a great example of multiplying the talents God gave Him. Isn't it wonderful to have Christian co-workers in the daily work place? I am going to include his link and yours on my next post. People will benefit from his photography knowledge and enjoy meeting you.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your post, Terri! And that Gregory is so talented! I visited his site and even that introductory photograph is stunning. He does lovely work in sculpture as well. I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow (and don't get a headache) as we celebrate the Resurrection!
ReplyDeleteHope Gregory can join you for Easter. Please tell him how much we like the cross he made. The part in the middle looks a bit like the security chip in credit cards.
ReplyDeleteOne of my biology students told me lavender relieves migraines. I'm not a person who enjoys baths, but I always put in lavender essential oil along with my homemade bath salts. When I'm overly-tired a good soak in the bath does feel good. I don't like it when people overdo it with perfume.
What a great piece for the church and the message seems very fitting. I hope Gregory is able to join you tomorrow for Easter. I took a quick look at his site. He takes beautiful photos. What an all around talented guy. I hope you have a wonderful Easter tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteA very talented gentleman. I love his sculptured cross. Hope he's able to join you for dinner. I tried to get into his web site but got a message "this web page is no longer available". I'll try again later. It's probably just a glitch somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI hope you and Joe have a blessed Sunday.
You are a blessing to so many. And not bigoted either.
ReplyDeleteHappy and Blessed Easter to you and Joe sweet Terri from me and mine. Hugs
ReplyDeleteLove the cross - beautifully made.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter, Terri. I hope you were able to share dinner with your friend. He's got so many talents. Give Joe our love, as well. Hugs :)
