The floor installation team didn't arrive until 12:35 p.m. They were supposed to be here at 11:00, but got stuck on a smaller job that took longer than expected. So, they jumped right in. I had no idea that floor prep would take so long, but they really did an excellent job getting the carpet and pads up. Then they had to use a big sander, to take off the glue and prepare the cement to receive the new glue for the flooring. Well, there was a dust cloud throughout the house, that it will take a week to clean up. I knew there would be dust, but had no idea it would be so bad. These pictures show you the dust in the air....they are not bad pictures, that is a dust cloud hanging in the air, looking down the hallway, and at the piles of 'stuff' in the living room:
This photo is a close-up of the vinyl flooring. I think it looks like real wood, and it has a texture like real wood, but it won't warp or fade or need sanding, and the guys told us it is the best product to have when you have pets, because it is easy to clean and is not absorbent. I loved hearing that! They didn't finish until just after 9:00 p.m. Those two guys worked their butts off for us, and did a great job. I felt bad that it took so long, but they didn't take any shortcuts - did it right.
The cost was about the same for a medium grade carpet. It has a 10-year warranty, and we have a partial box of the planks left over. They told us if one does get damaged, we can use a hot blow dryer over the damaged plank, to loosen the glue, pull it up and put a new plank down immediately. Sounds like a win-win to me. We are happy.
Now- if we can just get the house put back together!! I went to bed by 10:30 last night, and even took a zzzQuil tablet to help me sleep. I laid awake, putting furniture back in the rooms and deciding how to hang art back on the walls....at 2:30, I still hadn't gone to sleep. I called in for another vacation day. I thought we would have a few hours last night to work on getting our room back together, but that didn't happen. So, I am home today and we will make some headway, hopefully.
I got both knees shot full of cortisone yesterday. Didn't lose as much weight as I had hoped (darn holidays and darn my absence of will power), but onward. I see him in three months, again (May). My knees are a little ouchy after the shots. Bothers me a bit, because the injections haven't hurt like that before (and I've had a lot of cortisone in my knees). The doctor did the injections, though, instead of his PA. She was good - he hurt me a little. I'm sure the work I do today will loosen them up some.
So, that's two day's worth of blogging!! I'll catch up with you all later today. Thanks for checking in!! Peace, love & hugs.

The floors look great. I remember the dust from a similar job we had done. You will have to pace yourself to get it cleaned up - don't let it get you down. Hope your knees begin to feel better.
ReplyDeleteLove the floors, very pretty. Thank you so much for sharing. Praying that you feel better. (I hear you on the lack of sleep)--Blessings
ReplyDeleteThe floors are super nice and looks like they will be easy to take of, with all your fur babies around. I am glad you took another off....when you cant sleep, it is hard to concentrate. Glad you got your cortisone shots in your knees. I called yesterday to set up an epidural and the scheduler will call with time, date, etc. Maybe then, you and I both, will have a good spring/summer. Thanks for the pictures.
ReplyDeleteTerri, the floors are beautiful!! I can't tell a difference between the vinyl and hardwood! I love the color you went with. Taking a vacation day was a good idea! I'm hoping your knees feel better now that you got your cortisone shots. Keeping you in my prayers! I didn't blog yesterday either. I'm hoping to post one a little later. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that this is nearly over for you. It is hard to have your life disrupted. I hope your knees feel better soon. I am so sorry you are in pain.
ReplyDeleteI have been under the weather, but I feel better now.
Back to blogging!

I love what y'all are doing. We've been laying the same type of floors (ours are Pergo) throughout our 21 yr old house. Pulling up the carpeting is always so messy. I can't believe how much dirt is under our carpets! YUCK! *lol* Don't work too hard. ~:)
ReplyDeleteI like your floors...my daughter got something similar...except they are installing them and so far they have the living room and half bath done...with a lot of headache...glad you had someone do it for you. Hope your knees are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteOooo I love the new floors. It really does look like wood. Love it! Hope your knees feel better
ReplyDeleteYour floors look, wonderful, and so much easier to care for. Hope the knees quit hurting soon!!!
ReplyDeleteThe floors look great! Yep, the dust will be around for a while. Hope your knees get better. I understand the laying awake and putting everything together. Been there, done that too many times.
ReplyDeleteWhat a day and what a mess, but it's so worth it. It looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteTerri the floors look wonderful. The installers did a wonderful job and so glad they took their time installing them and not cutting corners. Especially being their until 9 p.m. I hope you were able to get a better night of sleep last night. Prayers for you and hoping your knees feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteFinally! Like someone before me said, don't rush getting things in order. They'll get done when they get done. Oh, and hope you were able to sleep. Congratulations on your new flooring - much, much better than carpeting.
ReplyDeleteSweet Terri, the floors are beautiful. Sure hope you have gotten some sleep by now. Hope your knees are no longer ouchy and will do okay after the painful shots. Enjoy your new floors. Hugs
ReplyDeleteThe floors are GORGEOUS!!! As you know from past experience, the cortisone sometimes takes a day or two to "kick in". My friend who has had more than one injection says the first one generally doesn't hurt as badly cuz our knees are in worse shape with swelling at that point and also don't have as much damage as they do later on. I don't know if that is so but she said she heard someone else say that. Neither of them work in the medical field so take that knowledge with that disclaimer!
ReplyDeleteYou will be so, so happy with the floors in the days to come when you are back to normal.
ReplyDeleteLove the flooring, Terri. It looks great. I feel your pain ... living in chaos is the pits, that's for sure. It'll get done by and by, just hang in there. Can't wait to see how things work out with your decorating.
