Hodgepodge Questions Volume 161

Hodgepodge Questions Volume 161

It's that time again, so here are the questions for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge.   You can visit Joyce and join in the fun HERE.

1. Are we always responsible for our actions? Are there any exceptions?
I think the answer has to be yes, and there are no exceptions. Life is all about the choices we make.  I think mistakes can be made, and circumstances can change, but we are always responsible for our actions.

2.  Has anyone from your home town become famous?  Not from my little home town, where I grew up, though my cousin (from another town) is Justin Chambers (Grey's Anatomy).  There are several famous people from Lakeland, most notably Karen Olivo, who won a Tony on Broadway a few years ago, in West Side Story (her dad works for the Museum now and then); and we also have Lindsey Alley, who started out as a Mouseketeer and now does one-woman comedy shows all over the USA.  She actually worked for me in the Museum Store one summer!  There are actually MANY famous folks from Polk County, including a Miss America.

3. January was National Slow Cooker month. Do you own a slow cooker/crock pot? Did you use it last month? What's a favorite dish you make using a slow cooker or crock pot?  Yes, I actually have three crock pots. Two large ones and one small one. I believe I did use it last month. I use it for savory soups, spaghetti sauce, and my favorite is a pot roast, with potatoes, onions, and carrots. Now I am hungry!

4. How do you feel about private companies collecting data about you?  It used to make me angry. Now, with all the social media (Blogger included) nothing is sacred anymore. I do my best to be careful, but I know there is so much info about me (about all of us) in the cloud that I can't fight it anymore. Sigh.

5. The Games of the 2014 Winter Olympics kick off with their opening ceremony this coming Friday....will you be watching? Which Winter Olympic event would you most like to see in person? Have you ever been to Russia? Any desire to go, Olympics or otherwise?  I LOVE the Olympics, and especially the winter games. I have no desire to go to the Olympic games, because I don't like crowds, period. Russia would be interesting and I'm sure is beautiful, but there are other places on my list ahead of Russia.  I DO love the figure skating, and have enjoyed being at a few ice skating shows.

6. Share a good or bad sports related memory from your childhood or teen years.  Sports related...good memory was qualifying for the Ohio Junior Olympics for running the 440, back in high school. I didn't go, but I qualified. Probably why my knees are so bad today - track and marching band.  A bad one would be my first marching band performance at a half-time football game. I couldn't remember which way to go on a pinwheel, so just stood still until they came back around to pick me up! The band director said that was much better than running to catch up. He said probably no one noticed because I kept my cool and marched in place. I was totally embarrassed, though. Stupid little Freshman messed up at the first game of the season.

7. What's a must have song for you on a work out play list? If you don't work out, run, swim, bike, walk, or anything else that could be construed as 'exercise', then what's a song that motivates you to at least get up off the couch? This made me chuckle! I live such a sedentary lifestyle. I did take clogging lessons years and years ago, though, and a good blue grass song does make me want to get up do a little clogging or do-se-do.....

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  Well, let's see what comes to mind randomly.... I said, quite vehemently, that I didn't like the Super Bowl half time show, but I would like to preface that by saying that Bruno Mars IS quite a performer. I still don't like his kind of music, but I did see some of Michael Jackson in his moves. He IS quite a performer. Red Hot Chili Peppers were terrible. Could have done without them. I'm still glad we turned the game off and watched an episode of Mr.& Mrs. Murder before watching Downton Abbey.

Thanks to Joyce for another interesting Hodgepodge!!  I thank you for your visit and comments!  Have a good hump day!!  Peace, love & hugs.

  2. I like Bruno Mars, but didn't think he needed the Chilie Peppers in the show. We're behind on Downton Abbey but have caught up in the past two nights. One more to go, and we're there. Snowed in today with hubs working from home (again). Enjoy the Florida sunshine!

  3. We didn't care for the half-time show either.
As for Downton Abbey, the show is taking quite a few twists and turns, isn't it? It's hard to believe that so much drama can take place under one roof --and in the 20's, too! LOL

  4. I always enjoy reading your answers. Helps know you even better. I didnt watch but 1 quarter of the super bowl, and I just couldnt handle the half time show at all. You cant hear or understand a word they say, and all they do is jump around and scream....lol....I am really old arent I?

  5. We didn't watch the SB. My son did but he only made it until after halftime. lol He said Bruno Mars was very good too.

  6. I always love reading your answers. Your band story reminded me of the time that my catechism class had to sing a song in front of congregation. There were two different catechism classes and I was at mass with the other class. When they called us all up to the alter to sing, I went up there but realized that our class never learned the song or the hand motions that were taught to this class. I stood there in the front row, not singing and not doing any of the hand gestures. I was so embarrassed! I love Bruno Mars. He has an old school feeling to his songs and performances. Have a wonderful day, Terri!

  7. Agreed with the pot roast :) It's funny how when we mess up we always think it is worse than it really is. You had a great band teacher.

  8. I saw a clip on the news about how the Russians are collecting data on all the people coming into the Olympics and that people need to be aware that none of their data is secure there. I thought that was hilarious, considering the fact that all of our personal data is collected by the NSA.

I too believe that we are responsible for our own actions. I know that people always like to find someone to blame, but the fact is, we always have a choice, even if the choice for the right path is difficult. (another reason I like Downton Abbey, by the way)

And be sure to stop in and get my recipe for a CrockPot beef roast. :-) Love it!

  9. Several of our answers are very similar and definitely on number one.

High five on the qualifying in track and for a freshman, I think your actions were very cool, calm and collected, even if you were embarrassed.
I only saw a clip of Bruno Mars on the news and also on FB where my niece was dancing to his performance! Not my kind of music, but I do understand the fascination (having been an Elvis fan in my past).

  10. I do like football, and watched the SB for the game. Truthfully, I had never heard of Bruno Mars, and didn't pay much attention to the halftime show. I know, I'm old and out of it. Lol. By all accounts, he was very good. I am a bit envious of those of you in warm climates… we had another 6+ inches of snow overnight.

  11. I agree with you, Terri...pot roast in a Crock Pot...can't beat it!

  12. I think we all have marching band memories! Now the college bands use iPads to work out the routines. They have very intricate movements! I always wish the bands would be shown more t halftime on TV. I liked Bruno Mars a lot! He has soul…and moves like Mj and also James Brown. He's a talented singer, drummer, and dancer!

  13. Oh, i love everything made in a crock pot. Loved reading your answers, even if I don't know anyone here who saw the Super Bowl, I think most people there agree that it wasn't the most exciting they've seen. As for the Olympics, i hope to see Spain win something.

  14. Hey girl - I do love my crock pot too!

  15. Crock pots seem to be loved by everyone!
Thanks for your comment on my post - you are one of the few folks who know about yellow watermelons!

  16. I read your answers but am too sluggish with a stomach 48 hour eruption thing that I am torpid.

  17. I'm impressed - - - qualified for the Junior Olympics!!! You are probably right about your knees. You gave them quite a workout in high school. We did not have a marching band but we were a performance band and did competitions for grades. I played clarinet and was selected for the all-county bands multiple years in high school. I loved the feeling of the sound of being part of a group - - - also was in choir. Funny about negative experiences. They say we forget less of them than the good experiences.
