Food Coma....

We have had a lovely, lazy day!  Our Thanksgiving dinner (lunch) was at a local country club.  They put on quite a spread for their Thanksgiving Buffet.  I can't begin to tell you all the different foods, but the salad tables had every kind of salad you might want, as well as sliced raw veggies.  The second group of tables had cheeses and crackers, lunch meats, shrimp, smoked salmon and sushi.  The "main" tables had rice, pasta, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, roasted potatoes, green beans, mixed broccoli and cauliflower, fried chicken, baked chicken, baked salmon, fried fish, turkey and gravy, roast beef and ham.  There is no way one person could have eaten everything.  THEN, the dessert tables had red velvet cake, German chocolate cake, chocolate cake, brownies, bread  pudding, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, cheese cake... I'm sure I've forgotten something.  Food coma!

I will say that, as good as all of that was, I would much rather have cooked for a big family gathering right here at home.  I miss that.  We had our friends, Al & Helen, with us, and Helen's niece, Cheryl.  It is always nice to share the holidays with them, but we do miss having family here.

We talked with both of our 'boys', Jeff and Joey, and daughter-in-law Darlene. We spoke with both of my sisters and my grandma.  We spoke with Kathy and grandson Tristan.  It's nice to hear their voices.  Kathy invited us to come to Naples for Thanksgiving, but this is the weekend they decorate the house for Christmas, and we do too.  Kathy has been traveling for business most of the last three weeks.  We decided to decline.  We are going down for two nights, the weekend before Christmas.  That will be fun, and Lauren (granddaughter) will be home, too.

Time to get the PJs on and settle in for 'movie night'.  We're going to watch the original 'Miracle on 34th Street', with Natalie Wood, then (if we aren't ready to sleep) our 2nd favorite Thanksgiving movie...'Planes, Trains and Automobiles', with John Candy and Steve Martin.  I love both of those movies (and so does Joe).

Hope you had a great day!  I will put a turkey breast in the crock pot tomorrow morning, so we can have "leftovers"!  LOL  Wishing you a good Friday!!  Peace, love & hugs.

  1. Food coma is right, and with this stupid hiatal hernia, I shouldn't go there. But I always forget! My dear daughter has to remind me. We went to Cracker Barrel, where I cleaned my plate, and I was considering eating my pie. But, she told me not to do it or my hernia would act up. Well, sure enough, a few hours later the pain showed up, even though I saved the pie for later. sigh. You'd think I would remember on my own!

I'd rather be at a big family gathering; Thanksgiving just hasn't been the same since the family started dwindling and work got in the way of being able to travel.

  2. Oh, my goodness what a spread. I would have had a hard time deciding what I wanted had I been there. We had a nice day just the two of us but we talked with family by phone. We enjoyed our meal and all I cooked turned out very well.

We have to go to each of our children's homes on Thanksgiving to be with them. It requires a lot of going for Gene and me so this year we decided to just have our own Thanksgiving here at home. There is always some reason all of the children cannot get together.

Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving. Enjoy your movies. Hugs

  3. Sounds like you had a choice of any kind of food under the sun. I know it was good. Another holiday behind us now, and we trudge on to Christmas! Have a nice weekend.

  4. Wow that is a lot of food choices. Glad you enjoyed it. No cooking or clean up must be nice.

We had ham instead of turkey this year. It was good. MIL, BIL + his gf came down. Have a great weekend!

  5. Well that list of food makes me feel incompetent. Our Thanksgiving is just turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, peas, carrots, parsnips, and brussels with home made cranberry sauce. From being on the ranch/farm we raised our own chickens and turkeys. I always think the veggies should be out of our own garden that we have harvested/stored too. Pie has to be apple and pumpkin. Sometimes we have devilled eggs and celery and cream cheese as appetizers. And we think that is a huge feast. But I suppose if you are appealing to a wide crowd of different favorites you need more variety.

    1. Karyn, your menu is what we usually have, if I am cooking at home. That buffet was just ridiculous! Home-style is more my-style!!

  6. I like the idea of your 'leftovers' and am looking forward to Christmas when we'll have our turkey and trimmings. How I love those same movies too! Well, I have quite a few I never get tired of seeing again and again, but I fear my list of favourite films is as long as your list of Thanksgiving dishes! LOL
