Other than the obvious alarm clock, my day starts at 5:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. I try to be in bed by 10:00 p.m., but I read for 30-45 minutes. This is probably why I so look forward to being able to sleep in on Saturdays and Sundays. Six hours of sleep is enough to get by, but not really enough!
Joe doesn't get up until I leave for work, at 6:45 a.m. BUT, there are four cats who all want attention. I think I spend around 45 minutes of my morning with the cats. Onyx (sorry if this is TMI) has to be on my lap when I am in the bathroom. It's just his thing. Then, Cookie, who has a bad back leg and can't climb or jump, insists on me putting her on the vanity, to have her hair brushed. She is waiting for me when I get out of the shower. She watches me do my hair and make-up, after I do HER hair. I have to put her down when 'we' are done.
When I am dressed and heading for the kitchen, all four cats follow because that means breakfast. I pick up all the cat bowls for cleaning, give them fresh water (in three places) and put the food in the bowls.
Lilly and Onyx supervise the feeding. Lilly does a little dance around all the bowls (yes, on the counter), while I open the cans and scoop out the food. I get two minutes of peace while they are all eating. I hurriedly pack my lunch and grab some breakfast. I also have to clean two litter boxes. Most mornings, at least one cat will have eaten too fast, and I end up with a mess to clean up, too. I spend the last 15 minutes before leaving, trying to read the newspaper.
Lilly and Lucy LOVE the newspaper. It is nearly impossible to read it, but I do the best I can. Of course, the comics are the most important part of the paper, especially with the front page covered in political 'stuff'. Does anyone else follow the comic called "Pickles"? Love it.
I open the curtains at the back French doors, put the blind up at the window over the kitchen sink, and head out the door. What they "talk" Joe into doing for them after that, we've never discussed, and I really don't want to know. LOL
My prayer time is during my drive to work. When I say I am praying for you, I really do.
Now, I know that dealing with the cats is not as crazy as having kids to wake up and get them out the door for school. Many of my co-workers are working moms and I seriously don't know how they do it all. God bless all working moms!! If I am stymied by cats, I would be lost with little ones! Joe's boys were 16 and 20 when I joined the family. I never had to do what other moms have to do.
So - how does your day start? What gets you out the door, or gets you going? Peace, love & hugs!

Oh my....if I was you I wouldn't make it. You surely must love your cats. My alarm goes off at 7am. Sometimes I am already awake and other days I hit the snooze twice.....I must be at the school by 8:30am. (The school is very close by). I have a protein shake and take my medicine and vitamin. Then I stand in front of my closet wishing something would jump out for me to wear. Next comes shower..dress, pack my lunch and out the door. I pray in the shower and anytime I feel the need...that's my morning routine for now.
ReplyDeleteWell I am worrying that you are just NOT getting enough sleep each night. To keep wrinkles away you need 9 hours. Think about that stat, sweet-pea.
ReplyDeleteThose kitties have it goooooooooooooooooood!!!! Funny how they all always have their own quirks and personalities. :)
ReplyDeleteMy morning routine is different now since I no longer have to go out for a walk first thing in the morning. I had to laugh when I read yours because your cats have you well-trained. As for the children, to this day I don't know how my mother coped with all us!
ReplyDeleteI love your morning routine! I know your fur babies acquire lots of TLC but as a pet lover we wouldn't have it any other way:-) I usually wake up at 4:45am. Walt has to be up a little earlier so I usually grab my iPad and lay in bed and surf around the internet and talk to Walt while he is getting ready for work. He starts the coffee when he leaves the house at 5am and that is when my day starts. I usually write by blog post before I start work and then there is the visiting with Matt and Lindsay before they head out the door to start their busy day.
ReplyDeletemeant to say *require*..lol.
DeleteThey acquire the attention, too, Kris! LOL
DeleteHaha..Yes they do!
DeleteI can relate to the work you do, before you go to work. Cali will just stay quiet so long, and then she starts talking...quietly at first, but then gets more vocal, so I end up getting up around 5:30 or 6, putting water and feed out for her, then to the kitchen to turn on coffee. In the meantime, turn on computer, find clothes for the day. Of course I get my coffee, get on the computer and find out what happened with everyone last night; create my daily blog, and then begin housework. Have a "thankful Thursday" my friend.
ReplyDeleteWe are petless right now and I have a teen that likes to sleep in so mornings are my quiet "me" time. I enjoy my breakfast and a huge mug of tea while being on my laptop checking mail, Facebook etc. It's so peaceful. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are quite busy in the morning, since I have no more fur kids, I can be leisurely with my morning. I don't start until about 11:30 for my first appointment, some days 11. I'm up between 7:30 and 8, fix coffee, breakfast and read the paper on the screened patio. Computer comes next and into the shower by 10:30 to start my day. I enjoy having the extra time, have always been a 2nd shift person.
