I surely did hate getting out of bed this morning, but my day is moving along nicely.
My friend and co-worker, Gregory, who is also the "my techie guy" that I mention now and then, is out west on a photography adventure/vacation. He has been posting some photos each day, and you really should take a minute to look at them. Go to his website: www.GregoryMills.com and take a look. My favorite, so far, is of the cowgirl (amazing lighting effect) and the smoky Grand Tetons. Breathtaking. I kind of got lost in them for awhile today. I've never been west....well, not totally true. I had to go to Boulder, Colorado, years ago, on a business trip. All I saw was the inside of a classroom, so I don't really count that. Gregory's photos make me want to go see it all in person. Wow.
I forgot to mention how wonderful the artists' talks were last Friday, at the opening reception. Our auditorium holds 152 people, seated. We had probably 25-30 people standing - SRO! It was awesome to see that many people come out to hear Kirk Ke Wang and Theo Wujcik talk about their work and their collaboration on this exhibit. A huge honor and surprise was that James Rosenquist (www.jimrosenquist-artist.com/) actually came to the opening. You can check out the exhibit here, if you are interested: www.PolkMuseumofArt.org
It will be nice going home this evening, with the laundry done, the bookkeeping done, and the house in order. I like Monday evenings when I've done, on the weekend, what needed to be done!! Joe has a Finance Committee meeting at the church tonight, but we will have time for a quick dinner before he has to go.
Now don't curse or delete me!!! I am beginning to think about Christmas. Someone posted that there are only 13 weekends left until the big day. I have our cards. They came last month, but aren't addressed or signed (maybe a little too early for that, anyway). I need to plan time for that, and - yes - my newsletter that goes to some people we never see. The years I didn't do it, some actually asked for one! I really enjoy getting news from people we don't see often. I also have plans to make a few gifts. Two of my good friends (Shirley -needlepoint, and Melody -a quilter) always make something beautiful and useful for our little group, for Christmas. I just never make time to do it, but found something on Pinterest that I am going to try. I'll post a photo when I get one done (if it turns out okay!).
Have you started planning for the holidays? My friend, Brenda, has a 'Christmas all-year-long' blog that has some great tips in it. Check it out here and leave a comment for her: http://christmaswithbrenda.blogspot.com/ Brenda is from Multiply, too. She has some great ideas.
That's all I have for you today! Hope your Monday is going well, and that you can have a restful evening!! I believe Dancing With The Stars begins tonight. Joe used to make fun of me watching, until I told him that DWTS is my football. He seemed to understand that analogy, and now even watches with me, once in awhile. It's actually a love/hate thing with me. I enjoy the dancing and the competition, but I hate how it drags on and on and on. I do get frustrated with that.
Wishing you a good evening! Peace, love & hugs.
Alright: My new question How do I subscribe to sites that I go read blogs on? There isn't always a subscribe button on the left.. usually all I see is a subscribe by email.
ReplyDeleteI wish i had caught up this weekend. I did manage to get the microwave out to the curb finally - we've been using the timer on it but it took that whole counter and doesn't microwave so it had to go! That thing is HEAVY!
Lisa, if you copy the blog address of someone you want to follow, you can "subscribe" on your Google Reader page. It's that easy. Just paste in the website. I also subscribe to a couple of folks who are using LiveJournal, and when they post, it shows up there, too.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got the microwave out to the curb! Now you have all that extra counter space!! Whoohoo!
I wish I had you in my back pocket to show me just once how to subscribe. The more I read the directions the less I understand. I will save this and try again when I am not tired.
ReplyDeleteI hardly do Christmas at all anymore. I give donations to Feed the Hungry in people's names and send a card explaining what i choose to give for them...a pig or chickens or a cow. I get the grandkids National Geographic magazines or Chickadee and give them cheques for their Educational funds. I haven't even done a tree for over 10 years as we go to someone else's house for a few days and it seems silly to do a tree and leave it behind to go home to take it down. I do a long letter and cards though. I do love the season but it is not about presents or decorations anymore. We used to raise our own turkeys and now we don't even cook one. We go to the kids house with a donation of the salad or dessert and shortbread and butter tarts and rum balls etc. I used to go all out so it is a little sad, but not really, as I am over it and happy to let the younger generation do all that work.
I got to thinking about cards today. I want to do a special crafted card this year, much like the Easter cards I made this year. I have it all planned out in my head. As far as shopping, I've started...a little...though I won't be doing much this year due to my lack of students and the new refrigerator.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good day, will check out the pictures your friend posted.
ReplyDeleteWe'd like to go to Yellowstone but haven't made it there.
ReplyDeleteUgh I haven't thought about Christmas yet.
Enjoy your evening
I didn't want to get up today, but I had to make a call to Mom and let her know when Aunt Lois' surgery was going to be.
ReplyDeleteI love Christmas, but I don't love being rushed and unable to stop and enjoy the season or being disappointed afterwards that I missed out on favorite activities or foods because of procrastination.
My daughter is already rehearsing two Christmas songs for upcoming Christmas performances: Santa Baby, and Christmas Angels by Michael W. Smith.
You've posted so many interesting links which I'll check out when I have time. I've been thinking about Christmas too and will be making some gifts too. I got a recipe book from Amazon for food stuff in jars. Actually I've probably got too many cookbooks from Amazon. LOL
ReplyDeleteFor some reason your newest blog post is not showing up in my readers list for almost 15 hours after it has been posted! I visited your page last night and this post was not visible to me. How crazy!
ReplyDeleteI am going to go check out the links you shared with us! I can't wait to see what you are going to be making for Christmas gifts! I need to start seriously thinking about Christmas. I like to start shopping for gifts right about now. I love shopping online. It is so less stressful..lol.
I'm gettin you and Linda on Google+ before you show up in my Reader, too. Not sure what's going on with that. Glad it's not just me, anyway. I love to shop on-line, and Amazon Prime is the best - one click and free two-day shipping. Can't beat that!
DeleteHappy Tuesday to you. I didnt get on blogger yesterday so I am late. I'll probably be late for Christmas too lol. I was born 3 days after Christmas..busy, busy time of the year but not without it's charms amidst the stress. It is my daughter's favorite holiday
