Thank you, Sam, for today's questions! Y'all can join in HERE!
P.S. I Love You
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions
every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer questions, however, and here are today's questions!
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
9) Random question -- Do you fold your socks or roll them? This question made me chuckle. Joe had to have his socks folded. I have always tucked mine into each other.

Saturday 9: P. S. I Love You (1953)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, a man fills his lover in on what's going on in his daily life, including that he was in bed by 9:00 PM. Do you have a regular bedtime? During the work-week, yes. I head that way at 9:00.
2) He reports that yesterday it rained, but all in all, he can't complain. Do you often find yourself discussing/complaining about the weather? I've been in Florida 34 years so I am used to our weather. I don't like the high heat and high humidity in the summer, but complaining doesn't change anything so it might be discussed but no complaints.
3) This song was recorded many times, by artists as diverse as Rudy Vallee (1934) and Bob Dylan (2017). It's endured because the theme -- reaching out and staying in touch across the miles -- is universal. Is there anyone in your life with whom you regularly correspond? Yes! If yes, do you prefer cards/letters, emails or texts? My (almost) six-year-old gr-gr-niece, Maya, is my pen pal. We have been corresponding for a couple of years now. She is such a sweet girl! This photo was at Disney last November, for her 5th birthday.
4) This 1953 version was a hit for The Hilltoppers. The band members met at Western Kentucky University and took their name from the nickname of their school's athletic teams. What was the name of your school's team? We were The Lakers!
5) The Hilltoppers always performed in W sweaters, for Western Kentucky. Do you own any sweaters, caps or jackets that celebrate your alma mater? No, but I did keep the purple and gold plume from our band uniform hats. It is falling apart. 1970 was a long time ago!
6) By 1960, The Hilltoppers' records weren't selling anymore. But they continued to perform and in 1970 they became the house band at The Holiday Inn in Fort Walton Beach, FL. They were so popular with tourists that they played at that Holiday Inn for years. When did you last stay in a hotel, motel or airbnb? I think it was the family reunion we had at the beach, back in 2018.
7) In 1953, the year this recording was popular, the Eisenhowers moved into The White House. First Lady Mamie Eisenhower was known for her down-to-earth style. For example, she often shared her recipe for Million Dollar Fudge, saying that since it's easy to make and foolproof, she recommended her fudge as the perfect hostess gift. When you're invited to someone's home, do you bring a hostess gift? If I haven't been asked to do food to share (potluck) I take a bottle of wine. We do potlucks often here. Someone hosts and everyone contributes.
8) Also in 1953, radio personality Arthur Godfrey made news for having one of the nation's very first hip replacements. Have you/would you ever be part of a clinical trial, either for a new drug or medical procedure? I would consider it but do have a couple of doctors in the family and I would consult them first. Lots of things to consider.
9) Random question -- Do you fold your socks or roll them? This question made me chuckle. Joe had to have his socks folded. I have always tucked mine into each other.
Happy Weekend!!

I always enjoy your answers, Terri. Have a beautiful Saturday my friend. smiles
ReplyDeleteSounds like we head to bed about the same time. Can't hold my eyes open much longer. My team was the Bulldogs! Our colors were red and white. I still have my Letterman's Jacket from cheerleading. I fold socks. We have another "Agape" pot luck today. I am taking chicken and rice. Wanna come? I know you are with your granddaughter today, so have a good time. Peace and blessings to you and yours today.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I enjoyed were potlucks... not so much work for the host...and with the price of food now. Enjoyed your answers... :)
ReplyDeleteI tuck my socks into each other, but I considered it a fold and not a roll, so I put fold. I wasn't sure. :)
ReplyDeleteI go to bed early too. I get up at 5AM and I work with little kids, so I need to be nice to them. Hahaha..sleep helps.
I always wrote my Granie when she was alive, but I really do not write much anymore, I am glad some people still do. I feel like it is getting to be a lost art. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend. ♥

I tuck my socks into each other too and so does hubby. Our bedtime is more like 11:00. Your little great great niece is adorable and I love that picture! Funny thing, I was just thinking the other day, I want to start writing letters to my grandson and was talking to hubby about this. I believe I will act on that and write the first one while we're here on vacation. You've inspired me to follow through.
ReplyDeleteThat was a fun trip down memory lane. Our bedtime is around 10 pm but we're usually up by 5:30 or so. Mornings here are too pretty to miss. I like to see the sun come up.
ReplyDeleteBlessings. xx
We were the Briarcliff Barons and I was so proud to be a football cheerleader, even though we rarely won a game. I don't have anything from that era except for yearbooks. I'm in bed before 10:30 most nights as I don't have to work.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, Terri!
I love the photo.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a sweet picture of you and Maya. The Lakers, huh? ... now residing in Lakeland. (I'll bet you get that a lot?) I never heard of the Hilltoppers, but that was the name of our high school team! If I'm not in bed by 9, it's a good bet I'm already dozing sitting up.
ReplyDeleteGlad I stopped by as I thoroughly enjoyed your answers. Happy weekend!
