The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Joyce is our hostess!  Thank you, Joyce, for today's Hodgepodge!  Join in HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 526

From this Side of the Pond

1. Are you too hard on yourself or not hard enough?  I give myself more grace the older I get.  There was a time when I was harder on myself. Elaborate. I realized it doesn't matter what others think of me or that something isn't 'perfect'.  I am who I am and it is what it is. Life is too short and my God is the one in control- I'm not.

2. What's the role of gratitude in your life?  I am grateful every minute of every day for the abundant blessings in my life.  Those blessings include the people God has put in my life.  I do have a bit of a struggle accepting help from others, but am getting better at that as well.

3. Where do you get your news these days?  From a few savvy/smart bloggers, and from 1440.  How much attention are you giving it currently?  I only read the newspaper for Dear Abby, the comics, and local news including obituaries.  I skip over headlines and national news. I don't watch the news on TV unless there is a hurricane coming.

4. Do you like potatoes?  Yes, indeed.  Last time you prepared potatoes in some way?  I baked a potato last night for my supper.  Which of the following is your favorite...baked potato, mashed potato, french fried potato, sweet potato, hash brown potatoes, roasted potatoes, or potato salad?  I like all of those but would put potato salad last on the list. My mom made great potato salad. I will eat it when served, usually at a cook-out but none are as good as mom's was.

5. Are you a veteran? No.  Are there any veterans in your family?  Yes, my dad, my husband Joe, (even my ex).  Our nephew was a Marine as were Joe's two brothers. Will you do anything special to honor them on Veteran's Day/Remembrance Day this year?  Other than thanks to all on Facebook, no.  I will actually be having lunch with my granddaughter at our usual meeting spot in Punta Gorda.  Lakeland is having a ceremony at our Veterans' Park.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  An update on Casper... he ate good last night. Hates the medicine (big surprise) but is still acting a little punk-y.  Keeping a close eye on him and his litter box activity.  Thanks to everyone and your sweet comments about my boy!

Peace and Hugs!

God bless America, land that I love!

  1. I agree with your answer about potatoes to a "T". My mother also made the best potato salad, and I really don't care that much for it unless it is made like hers, and my sister's comes close, but I still am not a big fan, and I really hate to make it. LOL. Happy Casper is doing a little better. That's good news. How nice you will be with your granddaughter this weekend. Sounds wonderful!! And don't be too hard on yourself...you are amazing and wonderful just the way you are!!! And I am so glad to know you!! So there!

  3. You do a great job of showing an attitude of gratitude! It blesses you and those around you too.
I Love potatoes. My extended family says my mashed potatoes are the best and always make me take them to holiday gatherings. I'm no good at potato salad though, would love to taste your moms!

  5. Great post Terri! You are so right, God is in control. Hubby has taught us all at church that: "He is God and we are not!" Believe it or not, that really does away with a lot of the pressure I put on myself to perform "right". I'm learning to criticize myself less.
Hope you and granddaughter have a wonderful time together.

  6. What was wrong with Casper - I thought he was all better? I do believe the older we get the more we see the need to be grateful and to forgive ourselves. I agree. I watch the same news as you or don't. lol

    1. Sandie, I think his troubles are all because of the cracked tooth that looks infected. He is a little better each day and is eating again. He is on antibiotics.

  7. I love my momma's homemade potato salad too. I think I replicate it pretty well. I made it for my grandsons birthday this summer and all my daughter's friends asked where she got it lol. I love your thoughts on gratitude...it's all in how we choose to see both the hard and the good in our lives that matters. Have a great day!

  8. Thank you for reminding us who's really in control! This I know, but struggle to loosen the grip on my pen. I'm not familiar with 1440, but just Google'd it and will be visiting. Even tho' I agree with their philosophy, having NewsMax on all day is wearying!

  10. I love potatoes, Terri, and would eat them every day if I could - lol! And since I know God is large and in charge, I can let go of so many worries. Such a blessing!
