Tuesday 4...

Thanks to Annie for today's Tuesday 4 questions!  You can join in here!

Saint Patrick

It's time once again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

Since Saint Patrick's Day is March 17 it might be nice to talk about it.

1. Do you celebrate the day and is it more secular or religious for you?  I have a few decorations around the house and a shamrock hanging on the door.  It is more secular and not really a big deal for me.

2. Americans eat corned beef and cabbage but it's not traditional in Ireland at all.   In my house, it's Colcannon and Beef Stew or Cottage pie (shepherd's pie made with beef instead of lamb).. which is more realistic and far less salty.  Do you make special meals for the holidays?  Not for St. Patrick's Day.  What will you make for St. Patrick's Day? I like to have a Reubin sandwich and figure the corned beef and sauerkraut count for the traditional corned beef and cabbage. Perhaps 'the kids' and I will go out to eat on Friday.  I did have some Colcannon at my church's potluck last Sunday and it was delicious!

3.  Do you have much green in your wardrobe?  I do have some green in my closet. Does the color look good on you?  Green is a favorite color and I think it does look good on me. My eyes are green.

4. In school we put up giant green shamrocks and Leprechauns. We made green paper chains to decorate our classrooms.  What do you do to decorate?  I go to the Dollar Tree and pick up this and that to add a little festive sparkle to the house.

(2% Irish!)

Peace & hugs!

May the Irish hills caress you.
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.

  1. I am much like you when it comes to St. Patrick's Day. It's just a fun day of traditionally wearing green so we won't get pinched. I don't recall my mother ever cooking a corned beef and cabbage dinner in my whole life. I learned about that later. This is the only time of year that I do cook that because usually the corned beef is on sale. Otherwise it's too expensive! LOL. I pray you have a wonderful week, and may there be a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow!

  2. My eyes are hazel too. I guess it's 'cause I'm mostly of Irish descent.
Steve likes Reuben's. Me, not so much 'cause I don't like sauerkraut even though I do like cabbage. Now that I'm older, leafy foods tear me up. I've had to completely give up salads and most vegetable's. I miss having salads.
    Blessings. xx

  3. Reuben's are wonderful. I also have green eyes and we are only 2% of the world's population they say. I'd like to get back to decorating for things other than Christmas.

  4. Corned beef and cabbage doesn't really float my boat, but the occasional Reuben sandwich is sure tasty. I just had to Google colcannon -- so ya, you can presume I've no Irish ancestry. (Does being born on St. Paddy's Day count?) Prayers for your kids' travel mercies today. Enjoy!!!

  5. Thank you for the blessing. I am going to eat corned beef and cabbage - we love it - lol. I know it started out as a Catholic religious day, but it is a fun day too. I too love green and have green eyes.

  8. I don't do anything for St. Patrick's Day except to wear green to avoid getting pinched and enjoy reading the blog posts of my friends who take the day more seriously. A Reuben sandwich on my plate is extremely rare, but if I were given the opportunity to have one on St. Pat's Day, I might do that. OR, just a patty melt on rye bread -- that might be as close as I'd get to holiday fare.

  12. Good ol' Dollar Tree, they sure come through for these little special occasions. I enjoyed the blessing, I don't think I've ever seen that one.

  13. I enjoyed your answers. A friend shared a recipe for a take on a reuben..wrapping the corned beef and kraut in a cabbage leaf and then dipping it in a thousand island type sauce.
