My weekend was not what it was going to be because my long weekend trip to visit with cousins in Alabama had to be canceled due to a couple of the Ohio cousins who couldn't make the trip last minute (well, not minute...). I had a long phone conversation with cousin Gail, whose home we were invading. It was good to catch up with her and her family by phone, if not in person. Fingers crossed that we can try again in the Fall.
On Friday after work, I stopped in to see Helen. She was animated and we actually had an actual conversation that she seemed to understand and participate in. We talked about beans. She likes beans and always wants two scoops. She likes green beans, black beans, baked beans, and just all kinds of beans. I was prepared to talk about beans for the entire visit but it was short-lived. One of the aides told me that Helen ate a big breakfast and they brought her two plates for her lunch (the biggest meal of the day). I didn't ask what lunch was but I was suspicious of the spills on Helen's slacks, which looked a lot like baked beans (thus, the conversation). She let me wheel her into the TV room after the conversation slowed. When I told her I had to go home, she actually told me to "run along now". I kissed the top of her head and told her I loved her. She responded "love you too" and was content with me walking away. One of my sweeter visits. She almost smiled for the picture!
Saturday was quiet. I did some mending and am happy to have my sewing machine out where I can use it as needed. Joe's desk is now my sewing and crafting desk. I finally got around to watching the Downton Abby movie, which was great. Makes me want to go back and start streaming the entire series again. So well done! In between, I am watching Everybody Loves Raymond from season one. I never watched it when it was on network TV so am having fun and laughing out loud at the silliness. I am also still watching Chateau DIY. If I was 40 years younger and had lots of money, I think I would love to tackle bringing back an ancient chateau to its historical beauty.
Sunday was church. Our Pastor is beginning a sermon series on Mark and it will take us to Easter and the Resurrection. I love my church and church family. I am having lunch with one of my friends, Wilma, today, and an early dinner on Wednesday with Livia and Wilma. Looking forward to both. I also volunteered to host my small group on Tuesday the 9th so have to start planning dinner for that.
Thanks for stopping by! Wishing you all a lovely August!!

Oh my, is it August already? Thank you for the reminder. I just changed my calendars. Wow, this year is flying by so quickly. Helen looks good, and I am so glad you had such a good visit with her for a change. Your conversation with her about beans made me giggle and I found myself reciting a funny little rhyme...there are two versions, but I'll use the better of the two for propriety's sake: "Beans, beans, musical fruit, the more you eat the more you toot. The more you toot the better you feel, so let's have beans for every meal!" Of course you know the other one says they are good for your heart...but that's as far as I'll go. LOL. Sounds like you have a busy week or two with dinners and lunches and of course work. I'm so glad you have friends and church and activities that are pleasant to keep you going! God has surely blessed you in that regard. Have a wonderful week, and try to stay cool!! I sure am looking forward to fall!
ReplyDeleteYes, I know both versions of the bean poem!!
DeleteMaybe all those beans are the secret to Helen's long life. The Blue Zones book says eat beans daily:)
ReplyDeleteShe does look good in the picture.
I love the Raymond sitcom. I just wish they made funny sitcoms like that these days without a Woke agenda. Laughing is good fun us.
I just finished with the Abby series.. such good acting and story line. I must see the movie as well. Working on "Six feet under" on HBO and Max... was a special comcast for a month and they hooked me into watching it. Great program.```````
ReplyDeleteI will look that one up. Thanks!!
DeleteHi Terri: Helen is adorable, it is good you had a sweet time with her.
ReplyDeleteI have a close friend with dementia, she constantly talks about how she paid for her Parochial Schooling by working at a Dairy Queen, her parents were very poor, I always act as if it's the first time she has told me, if that happens to me, I want people to be understanding of the situation.
Sewing is also a passion of mine, I look forward to seeing some of your sewing, I hope you share what you are working on.
I almost lost my husband in May; life is too short.
We watch Raymond every night for one hour, it was a great sitcom.
We also watch Friends something we did not do when it was on TV in the 90s-2000s.
Have a great week.
Pamela Steiner is a hoot with the bean poem.

No sewing projects...just mending. Maybe someday I will buy some fabric and be motivated to create something!
DeleteI always like to read what you've done. We had a quiet weekend but that can be good too. Everybody loves Raymond is a cute show and I would probably like watching more episodes of it too. I watched a couple of Leave it to Beaver yesterday. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you had a 'good' visit with Helen. Cracks me up about the beans; my Tom would gladly give her all his. Thanks for mention of the Downton Abby movie. I've not seen a single episode, but folks speak highly of it and honestly, I'm keen for a change. I hope today's lunch was great fun. We'll definitely have to make a Plan B!
ReplyDeleteHello from Kansas. God bless. Wonderful scripture to meditate upon. This particular one reminds me to think.
ReplyDeleteAwe, sweet Helen. You are so good to her and I'm sure it blesses you as much as it blesses her. Yes, the Downton movie is great. Have a great week Terri!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you had a nice visit with Helen. You need that every once in awhile.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the Downton movie yet, hopefully soon!
So great to see Helen coherent and up for a conversation, Terri. You've certainly been the anchor that she has needed, and I know you will continue to be so! I got hooked on the Downton series during Covid, but after Matthew's death, I didn't have the heart to watch it any more. I'm sure they'll survive without my support - lol!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
