A new week ahead and I have a whole bunch of new birthday memories made!!
My boss and co-worker Paolo took me to lunch at a very well-known BBQ place called Peebles BBQ. They are only open during "the season" and folks flock to it. My boss knows the owners and gets to sit at the VIP table (in the kitchen) so we walked in the back door and had some VIP service. I wore my birthday t-shirt that says "I survived the 60s - twice!!" They gave me the CUTEST card for my birthday, signed by four of the five other employees. One is on vacation so he missed it.
Friday night, I went to dinner with two members of my small church group, Livia and Wilma. After dinner, we saw Lindsay Alley's Christmas show at the Polk Theatre It was a great time and Lindsay put on a great show. She has a beautiful voice and is a very funny comedian. Dinner was at MoJo Federal BBQ. I had a bowl of Brunswick Stew because I had pulled pork for lunch. Livia had salmon and Wilma had pulled pork (if I remember correctly).
On Saturday, my actual birthday, I slept in a bit. When the cats insisted that I get out of bed, I got them fed and got myself dressed then started some laundry. I had lots of phone calls and lots of text messages, and a couple of face-times. That was my excuse for getting nothing else done! It was SO nice talking with family and friends throughout the day.
Yesterday, I went to Sunday school and church, then went to see Helen. My covid test was negative. They are still testing everyone even though no new cases have been found. She was sleeping in her dining room chair while waiting for lunch to come. She wouldn't wake up for me. When they brought out the salads, she said she didn't want hers but a few minutes later she was eating. I sat at a table out of the way and watched for a while before seeking out one of the nurses. He told me she is doing okay. He couldn't think of anything she needed. I asked about taking her out for Christmas and he thought it would be okay. She seems more withdrawn and feeble each time I go. They are decorated for Christmas. I took a couple of photos at check-in on the assisted living side and then one of the entrance to the memory care wing.
My boss and his wife invited me for Mexican food last night. I met them at Tapatios and was surprised and happy to see Monika there too. More birthday cards and more fun! The sombrero was falling off and I grabbed for it and knocked it off by mistake... Mrs. Boss took the video and I can't rotate it but hope it plays for you. It was fun!! I am so blessed. (For the record, we were all drinking water!)
I am still processing sad news from the weekend. The Conleys lost their dear son to covid. My (2nd) cousin, Jim, is in the ICU on a vent because of covid while his wife is recouping at home (in Alabama). And then there is the tornado devastation in Kentucky and Tennessee. Prayers for all. Prayers for all. Yesterday was also the 32nd anniversary of losing my dear dad to cancer. He passed the day after my birthday back in 1989.

Amidst all this current sorrow in the nation, I'm glad to see that your birthday weekend was so special, Terri. Yes, prayers all around!
