Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions! You can join in HERE!
Somewhere
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9
questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!
Saturday 9: Somewhere (1983)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This song is from the hit musical West Side Story. It has just been remade by Steven Speilberg. Are you interested in seeing the 2021 version? I would probably want to see it. I enjoyed the original. I am usually disappointed in remakes with only a few exceptions. The third (1995) remake of Sabrina is much better than the original and second remake.
4) Early in her career, Barbra was pressured to have her nose fixed. She stubbornly refused and did rather well anyway. Tell us about a time you resisted pressure. I can't think of any specifics but will say I don't often feel pressured. I guess I should say I don't allow myself to be pressured into things. I am more likely to push back.
6) One of Barbra's hit movies is The Way We Were, a love story about hopelessly mismatched lovers. Streisand always wanted to do a sequel and worked with a screenwriter on a treatment. Her costar, Robert Redford, refused. He simply was not interested in revisiting his character. Is there a movie series that you especially enjoy? Not a movie series because I am not into Star Wars (for instance). There isn't room to list all the TV series I watch/have watched... or books!
7) Barbra met her husband, James Brolin, at a dinner thrown by friends. They hit it off immediately, but he had to leave the next day to begin a movie in Ireland, so they began their romance over the phone. Do you enjoy long phone calls? No. Would you prefer video calls (Zoom)? Actually, yes. I enjoy face-timing with family.
8) On July 1, 1998, two years to the day after their first meeting, Barbra and Brolin married. It used to be that brides were advised against wearing white for their second wedding, but Barbra ignored that, wearing a white beaded gown. Do you believe brides should still avoid white the second time around? Nothing matters anymore. I have a (young & goth) friend who actually wore a black wedding gown. For my second wedding, I chose to wear a nice suit that could be worn later for work.
9) Random question: Is anyone on your bad side this morning? No. Not that I am aware of, anyway. Not on my part. I don't hold grudges anymore and have found peace in forgiveness. All is well with my soul.

2) Growing up, Crazy Sam thought this song was called, "A Place for Us." Tell us about a song whose title or lyrics you got wrong or misheard. LOL.. lots of them. Just listen to me sing along with the car radio!!
3) Barbra Streisand sings of longing for "time to spare, time to learn and time to care." The holidays are often too busy for many of us. With Thanksgiving almost upon us, do you wish you had more time? No. This year I will be happy to have the holidays behind me, even though I am looking forward to new traditions beginning.

5) In the late 1960s she briefly dated Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, father of current PM Justin Trudeau. Obviously, Barbra knew what became of Pierre and his family without having to look them up. Without the advantage of Google, do you know where one of your former loves is in 2021? My first steady boyfriend died several years ago. I wasn't "in love" with him, however. We went "steady" my sophomore year. He was a junior. I went to the prom with him. We had some fun (and very innocent) times. We were Facebook friends and I was sorry for his family when they lost him.

God is so good!

I usually don't enjoy remakes either. I can't stand when they change the story. If they are gonna change it they should change the title. One of my pet peeves. lol
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I love seeing the photos you have of the past! It's always good to remember. LOVE the last answer. I've had to let a few things go but I can finally say, I don't dwell on them at all. Enjoy your weekend and this beautiful weather!
ReplyDeleteI don't really care for the re-dos.. I cannot recall one that I preferred.

ReplyDeleteRemakes of movies are often kinda strange. What updates they make and what they omit. I like the version of Sabrina with Harrison Ford.
I don’t know that I want to see the remake of West Side Story. Too sad.
Not a fan of remakes, either; but I'm cautiously optimistic about WSS! I guess what REALLY gets me upset is when a movie maker changes up a beloved book. (But wait, they didn't ask that, did they?) Love this picture of you and your 'steady' at the prom! Happy Saturday, Terri! xo
ReplyDeleteMy prayers are with you. The holidays are hard after losing a loved one. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

I am keeping you in prayer...you and Barbara are so brave, Terri and I truly mean that. smiles
ReplyDeleteI appreciated and enjoyed your answers. I loved Barbra Streisand singing, but not her politics. I don't usually like movie remakes or sequels. I like the old originals. I enjoyed seeing your prom picture. I am sorry for his recent loss. One of my former "steady" high school boyfriends recently passed away too. I was sad for his family, but I was thankful we didn't end up together. He and his first wife (also a friend of mine) divorced years ago after his long time affair with a co-worker. Made me thankful I didn't end up with him. But still, he was a nice guy when I dated him and I was sad to hear of his death for the sake of his children and family. God knew way back then what and who was best for me and I am SO thankful He steered me in the right direction! I will be thinking of you during the upcoming holidays. I know it is going to be difficult, but you know and I know that God will be there for you every step of the way. (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteI usually don't like remakes either. I'm also not a fan of Barbra Striesand...
ReplyDeletePraying for you as the holidays approach. I know these are hard days.
