I got home from my weekend at my sister's around 4:00 pm yesterday. My trip home was much nicer than the trip up on Friday. The rain was AWFUL and it was dark and cold. The closer I got to Georgia, the colder it got! It was nice to arrive at Tammy's (around 6:00 pm) to the smell of a beef roast and all the trimmings nearly ready for dinner! It was warm and homey in her house!! We had a nice dinner and sat at the table talking for a few hours. I also looked through some old photos and found some I copied, including this one of me, Tammy & Patti, and our dog, Happy. The year was 1963.

We got up on Saturday to more cold and rain but that didn't stop us from getting out and about. She wanted me to see some murals on buildings, in Lakeland (Georgia), which is about 10 miles from her little town. Even with the rain, it was fun seeing them. The pictures were all taken from the car so they aren't the best but I was happy to document some of them. The people in the murals are real people who worked there or owned the businesses back in the day. History documented. So well done!
We visited a little thrift store after we toured the town and the murals. It is
a new business that Tammy had been wanting to visit. When checking out,
I mentioned that I was from Lakeland, Florida. The woman smiles and told
me she was born in Lakeland, FL, and her husband was brought up in Winter Haven.
Small world!
We had lunch in this little restaurant, M & B.
Our Reuben sandwiches were good!
Tammy's cat, Fuzzy, helped me stay warm!!
On Saturday evening, Tammy's friends came over and made dinner for us!
They are both great cooks and live right next door.
Amber and Jeff have helped Tammy numerous times and are so nice.
I was happy to finally meet them!!
Shrimp & Grits!! Delicious!
Here they are, at the table!
And this is Ashley and Clayton. Ashley is Amber's cousin and she also lives
in the neighborhood. Clayton is Ashley's boyfriend. Both are sweet kids.
Clayton is almost finished with his Eagle Scout project and wants to get into the Air Force.
Here is our dinner group.
Clayton & Ashley. Behind them is Ashley's grandpa and Amber's uncle, Bob.
Then Amber, Tammy, and Jeff.
Ashley wanted me in the picture so she took this one.
Bob lives behind Tammy and he has also been a big help to her since her
hubby, Bruce, died a year ago in August.
Tammy is blessed to have such good friends right (practically) in her yard.
Tammy and me!
It is good to be home. The cats seem happy to have me home too! I did laundry, got the clocks all changed, and back to work today. Wishing you all a blessed week ahead!!
Peace & hugs!
Wow! Looks like you had a great time, and I am SO glad you made it up there safely with all that rain on Friday (and Saturday too). I was praying for you on Friday, because I knew it had to be a stormy trip. but it looks like you had a warm, cozy welcome and lots of fun and food and good company. Love the murals! Those are amazing! Very well done and very interesting. It's great that Tammy has such good neighbors who come and take good care of her. Your dinner looks wonderful!! Thankfully you are safely back home, but I know you are happy you were able to have a good time. Is Tammy the sister that will be coming down to spend Christmas with you? Well, back to work today, and thankfully the rains have stopped! Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteYes, Tammy is coming for Christmas. My sister, Patti, lives in Ohio and is a teacher.
DeleteWhat an incredible visit you had, Terri! I'm so happy that Tammy has neighbors who are looking out for her in so many special ways. And I loved those murals - never knew there was a Lakeland, GA, before today. Glad you're home safely, my friend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
How awesome that your sister has so many good friends that live so close. The murals are neat.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
You had a good time despite the weather! I know you are glad you went. How sweet of her neighbors to make a nice meal. Good neighbors are treasures! Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy post, Terri! Those murals are wonderful. And Tammy's friends -- what a blessing to her (and to you, since you live so far away from her).
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! Yes, wet and cold weather of late, but it cleared up nicely yesterday which was good because I attended a back yard wedding! The weather was perfect.
What a fun weekend even with the rain. It was cold here on Saturday morning but when the sun came out it was just beautiful. I am so glad Tammy has good neighbors...such a blessing. And that plate of shrimp and grits looked delicious. Also before I forget, I love the picture of you and your sisters and your dog. Precious memories.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving this recap, Terri. Every word! That's a great picture of you and Fuzzy. As others have said, I'm so touched by Tammy's friends' goodwill. In spite of the weather, your Saturday excursion sounds like such fun. (I'm so ready for a girl's day!) 'Wishing you a great new week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful trip Terri. Thanks for all the pictures. I loved, loved, loved seeing all the murals of people who once lived in the small town of Georgia and seeing you with Tammy and her neighbors/friends.
ReplyDeleteEven with the cold and rain, it looked like you had a wonderful weekend. Those murals are so cool looking. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNothing like wonderful neighbors. I miss the old gang. But life is change and trying to make the best of it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time. I know visiting with your sister was fun but it seems she is a good place with many to take care of her. I have never heard of Lakeland, Georgia.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful weekend! I know it was a blessing to spend that time with Tammy. I'm so happy that she has such great neighbors!
ReplyDeleteI love that Tammy has such a great support system! That picture of you and Tammy is the best of all! You're so brave driving so far by yourself! And in rain, no less!!
