Saturday 9...

Thanks to Sam for today's questions! You can join in HERE.

The Bones

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme.

The Bones (2019)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The lyrics compare a relationship to a house, saying that despite superficial problems like peeling paint or broken glass, the foundation can still be solid and strong. What home improvement project is next on your list?  I don't have any home improvement plans. It is enough these days to just keep the house clean and the laundry done! LOL

2) Maren Morris sings that she knows she and her lover can face any storm. Are you afraid of thunder and lightning?  No, I am not.

3) The video for this song shows Maren and her husband, singer/songwriter Ryan Hurd, on the beach in Maui. Would you rather go for a long walk along a beach or a hike in the woods?  A SHORT walk on the beach sounds wonderful.

4) "The Bones" won Morris and her collaborators (Jimmy Robbins and Laura Veltz) the 2020 CMA "Song of the Year" Award. Here's your chance to pat yourself on the back. What's something you have done well lately? (Go ahead. We want to hear about it!)  I got my friend, Helen, moved into assisted living and managed the movers, figuring out what she would need from her house, and preparing the house to be empty for a while. On top of that, I am figuring out how to live alone as a widow. I think I am doing okay but sure couldn't have done it/do it without so many friends (especially Elaine & Jim) helping me get to here. That also includes my blogging friends and all of your advice and encouragement. Thank you!

5) The song was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Song. For the awards show last month, Maren put a lot of work into her look, including lightening her hair and lipstick and reshaping her brows. She was surprised when saw on social media that people confused her with reality star Khloe Kardashian. How long does it take you to prepare to face the world (on an average day, not for an internationally telecast awards show)?  I quit wearing make-up when I retired so it takes no time at all.  I can be out of bed, into the shower, into my clothes, and ready to go in about 20 minutes when I have to.

6) Experimenting with hair and makeup comes naturally to Maren. Her parents have owned the same hair salon for decades. She and her sister played there as children and took turns working the reception desk when they were in high school. Do you have a hair appointment scheduled?  Nope. I schedule one when I think it is time.

7) Mom and Dad do not go out of their way to play Maren's songs in their salon. They don't want to "bombard" clients with her music, just because she's their daughter. But, if one of Maren's songs happens to come on, they are naturally very proud. Where were you the last time you had to listen to someone else's choice of music? (Bank, doctor's office, friend's car, etc.) Did you enjoy it, or did you wish you could change the station?  My friends, Tim and Judy, picked me up Thursday night to go to dinner at Fish City Grill. Tim had an oldies station on and I did enjoy it.

8) Maren says her favorite foods are tacos and tortillas. When did you most recently eat Mexican food?  The last time at a Mexican restaurant was in January, with Joe, Jim, and Elaine.  I did have crawdad & shrimp tacos at Fish City Grill.  It was more Cajun than Mexican though.

9) Random question: What do you call that thing in your living room? Is it a sofa, couch, or a davenport?  Growing up, we called it a couch.  Now I am more inclined to say sofa.  I even call my two loveseats sofas. I haven't heard anyone say davenport in years!

Peace & hugs!  Jesus loves you and me!

  1. I use the words couch and sofa to describe where I sit in the living room. And make up? I gave that up at the start of this pandemic, Terri. What's the sense in getting all gussied up when no one can see your face - lol!
    Blessings, my friend!

  3. My Florida Native MIL calls them "settees". Kinda cute that.
I also don't wear makeup much anymore. I do put a small amount of face power on and lightly pencil the eyebrows for Church or going shopping, etc. That's pretty much it though. I have a tremor in my right arm now and quit trying to put on mascara. It's just too much trouble.
I, for one, am very proud of how you've handled everything. I think you're a woman of great character and courage. Well done you.
    Blessings. xx

  4. I would never presume or give advice to anyone who has lost their loved ones...and perhaps that is why I have not said anything, because I don't know what to say. I certainly admire you and Barbara (our fellow blogging friend). I agree with Sparky, you have such character, courage and dare say grace. I am simply at awe, Terri. Truly I am. P.S. Love you too.

  6. We always called it a couch as well Terri. Now I say sofa...I am more uptown now.lol Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog yesterday. I thought of you and Joe as Marvin and I were making our journey the other way. So far I have only had one negative comment and I just did not publish it. When we put ourselves out there we must have tough hides.

  8. I call it a sofa. I have never worn make nor did my girls. No reason, we just didnt. I like 'old country' cooking the best. Murphy cooks Mexican food a lot so I get that here. Hope your Saturday is a good day. xo

  10. Ha Ha, Mostly I sit on my recliner! LOL. I am more of a recliner person than a couch person. I think I use the word couch more than sofa, but they are interchangeable to me. I remember hearing "davenport" from my father a few times, and think it was a carryover from his mother. I am so thankful for the good friends you have near you who have stepped up to be there for you and to take the time to spend time with you. I wish I lived closer and could come visit with you. And of course you are always welcome to come here any time. Do you still have relatives living in Interlachen? Anyway, I think you are doing very well, all things considered, and I admire your courage and strength. And I am amazed at how you were able to take care of Helen and her big move so quickly when you were right in the middle of your own crisis. God gives us what we need as we need it, that I know for certain. I continue to pray for you every day. Did I see Barbara say something about seeing you soon? OH! How wonderful if that is true. You and she are both remarkable.

  11. I, too, am in awe at your grace under pressure. At first I was troubled at Cheryl's timing ("You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille") ... but there's always two sides to everyone's story. Move over, Larry-the-Cable-Guy, Terri's got 'r done!
I hardly ever wear make-up anymore, but my hair's a whole 'nother story. Wish I could wear mine like yours.
    Love ya!

  12. You deserve more than a pat on the back, Terri. You've done a lot helping out Helen and while learning to cope with your new reality. You're a wonder woman and I think you are amazing! I was thinking the same thing about "davenport"...that maybe no one younger than my grandparents used that term?

  13. I grew up calling it couch. I have no idea when sofa became the word and like you I find myself calling it that too. I only put makeup on on Sundays or special occasions since retirement too. I actually think I like myself with way less anyway. I do like a little lipstick and a little blush but that is about it.

  14. I think you have a lot to pat yourself on the back about. I'm proud of you for all you've dealt with in the last few months.
We say couch here, and I haven't hear davenport for a long time either.
