Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can join in HERE!

Ludwig Von Beethoven: Complete Symphonies

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Complete Symphonies (2019)

This week we're classing up the joint with a well-received box-set by the Danish Chamber Orchestra. You can listen to the orchestra here.

1) Beethoven is one of classical music's best-known composers. Do you often listen to classical music?  No. I did when I worked and needed to concentrate. It really is relaxing and helps you focus.

2) Though a musical genius, Beethoven never learned to multiply or divide. When faced with a simple arithmetic problem, do you do it in your head?  If it is SIMPLE, yes, I can do it in my head.  Or do you rely on the calculator in your phone or on your computer?  I do use my calculator often.

3) Beethoven bathed often, which was considered "quirky" for a man of his time. (Understandable, since you had to heat the water, haul it to the tub, and then empty the tub bucket by bucket when you were done.) Do you bathe in the morning or in the evening?  Usually in the morning.  I shower.  I haven't had a bath in years! :)

4) Adam Fischer conducts the Danish Chamber Orchestra for this 5-disc set. He began his musical career young when he sang in the children's choir of Budapest's National Opera House. Have you ever sung in a choir or chorus? Yes, I was in chorus in high school.

5) Mr. Fischer was awarded the Gold Medal of Arts from the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Tell us about a prize or award you have received. (Yes, that ribbon you earned for penmanship in second grade counts.)  Gosh, I won a few things but I'm 68 years old.  I haven't kept ribbons or certificates for years.

6) The Danish Chamber Orchestra is beloved in Demark. When, in 2014, the Danish Broadcasting Company announced it would no longer fund the Orchestra, citizens began a crowdfunding campaign and raised more than $1,000,000 to keep the music playing. Have you ever contributed to a crowdfunding platform, like GoFundMe, Kickstarter or FundRazr?  Yes, but I am careful about it because some of them are scams.

7) The Orchestra's "home" is the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen. Where were you when you last heard music played live?  In church every Sunday!  We have a very accomplished praise team.

8) In 2019, when this boxed set was released, China became the first nation to land a spacecraft on the far side of the moon. Are you fascinated by stories about space? Not so much anymore, but back in the heyday of space travel I was.

9) Random question: Tell us about your week. These are extraordinary times, and it might feel good to share.  My doctor and physical therapy appointments haven't been canceled.  We have been to the grocery a couple of times.  We put gas in the car. We slept late and we have watched TV (as usual). I am cooking more.

Thanks for your visit!  Happy Saturday!
Peace & hugs!  Relax, God is in control!!

  1. My husband is a huge Mozart fan, and often plays his music. I enjoy it too, but am not as "into" classical music as he is. I prefer words in a song I can understand and that have meaning to me. However, classical music is nice to have in the background. Funny, I was never good in math per se, but was a good bookkeeper for many years! I think there is a difference...and yes, I use my calculator a lot...and Excel spreadsheets and other bookkeeping programs that do the hard work for us! But there is still a lot calculating that has to go into figuring out how to set that up and get it right! Glad I am retired now and only have to manage our own personal finances. I also sang in the high school chorus, and sing in the church choir now. I even directed our church choir many years ago, but it was a pretty simple choir that didn't like to sing anything too difficult, so that made it easy on me. The only "award" I remember right now is that I was our school Spelling Bee champion and went to the county spelling bee, and after spelling all the great big hard words I missed the word "spaghetti". It still causes me to stumble every time I try to spell it. How embarrassing! Oh, and I take my shower at night. We have a lovely large garden tub here, and I've tried it once! But we have to pay for our water now instead of a well, so I can't afford to fill the tub! LOL. Have a blessed day.

  2. We only have showers in our house so no nice relaxing baths for me. I do miss taking long bubble baths.
    Have a great day!

  3. Oh you are so lucky that your appointments haven't been canceled...here, EVERYTHING has and or is closed. I hope you have a beautiful day friend and love the background here, smiles.

  4. Fifth grade spelling bee champ here! I shower every night before bed, but have long tangly hair, and don't like going to bed with it wet, so I often take a second shower in the morning if it's hair washing day, or I wash it...gasp...in the kitchen sink.

    1. When I had my knee surgery and couldn't shower until the stitches were out, I washed my hair in the kitchen sink, too. Did that a lot when growing up in a family of six with one bathroom!! Shampoo and conditioner sat right next to the dish soap!

  5. Like "16 blessings' mom" I also wash my very short hair
in the sink. We have a mesh catcher over our sink where
the water flows through and I clean it out and get rid of
    any hair in it.
I also take my shower at night.
I was spelling bee champ in the 6th grade, went onto compete
on the radio and spelled the word "odor" wrong. I spelled it
"oder". I have never forgotten how to correctly spell it since.
    Have a great Saturday.

  6. I do love classical music, Terri, and have always been a big Beethoven fan. Surprised to learn here how often he bathed and that he couldn't do simple math! Hard to believe as usually musicians are mathematically gifted.
Have a great Saturday, my friend!

  7. I love classical music but growing up I NEVER heard it Terri. It was country or gospel music in my home. When we watched the PBS country music series by Ken Burns, Marvin was surprised at how many of the those songs and artists that I was familiar with! I sure do wish I could sing....lucky you being in chorus.

    1. It has been hard! Our Canadian neighbors have all gone home. Spoke on the phone with our across-the-street neighbors yesterday, and our next-door neighbor talks to us from her porch when she see us out.

  10. Has your church gone to online only? Our church had it's last in person service for a while last weekend.
Many appointments have not been canceled here either, but I rescheduled mine. It was just a check-up...that can wait. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

    1. Yes, Lori. Our church has canceled all services and meetings but will stream on their Facebook page Sunday morning. It will feel weird going to church in my PJs!

  11. I didn't even think about the church's Praise Team. Missing their energy and joy. Actually, there's lots I'm missing of late. Hopefully, it will make me more appreciative of ordinary blessings when life gets back to normal.

  12. I don't really listen to classical music. I do math in my head too. I shower in the morning and don't do baths much anymore either....
