1. It's National Fig Week! We sing about figgy pudding in the carol We Wish You A Merry Christmas.
♫ ♪ Now bring us some figgy pudding
Now bring us some figgy pudding ♫
♪ Now bring us some figgy pudding
♫ And bring it right now ♫ ♪
Ever eaten figgy pudding? Or its close relative, plum pudding? How about cooking or baking with figs? Or plums? I have never had figgy or plum pudding and I have never cooked or baked with either. Joe's mom used to use figs now and then in her cooking. They had a fig 'tree/bush' in their yard. I do like Fig Newtons.
2. It is also Intimate Apparel Week.
Lace push-up balconette underwire bra and matching thong? Or the comfort of practical and machine washable 97% cotton with 3% Lycra? I am an old grandma who goes for practical comfort and machine washable cotton undies.
Alternate question for male lurkers: Boxers or briefs?
3. And it is National Animal Shelter Awareness Week. Have you adopted an AniPal®? We have never gone to a shelter to adopt a pet but all of our cats were rescued from the streets.
4. National Nachos Day. Credited to Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya who combined corn tortilla chips with melted cheese and sliced jalapeño peppers. I really like nachos with jalapeno peppers!
Any recipes you've invented? Or tried-and-true dishes that you can make by heart? When I make soups, I just wing it so I guess you can call that an invented recipe. There are a few things I can make 'by heart' because I make them all the time.
5. Happy Birthday, Opal Kunz! (1894 – 1967.) Opal was an aviatrix at a time when women were discouraged from flying. In 1929, Opal raced in a transcontinental "powder puff derby" in a borrowed airplane. Her beloved 300-horsepower Beech Travel Air was ineligible as it was too fast and powerful; therefore, "inappropriate for a woman."
It seems we have all had such moments in our lives when we are held back because we are women. What's one of yours? I mentioned this before. When I was in high school I wanted to take drafting. They wouldn't let me take drafting. I had to take home-ec instead. I might have become an architect had I been able to explore drafting.
6. Please share with us something interesting about your week. Yesterday, I had my usual 6-month visit with my cardiologist, who is also Joe's cardiologist. I had my EKG and all my vitals by the nurse assistant. When the doc came in he pronounced all looked fine with my heart, then asked me about Joe, then asked me about my knee and had to see it. I showed him my Xray (on my phone) and he had me stand up so he could look... We have known him for years and years so it was all good. He already gave me clearance for my surgery in January.
Thanks for your visit today! Peace & hugs! God bless!!

That's great news that you're already good to go in January! I can't believe you weren't allowed to take drafting. I have been lucky to have never run into that kind of thinking in my life. Have a blessed day, Terri!
ReplyDeleteGood news for the road ahead to better health... :)
ReplyDeleteSo good to know that you're in the clear for your next surgery, Terri! I'm not a big fan of figs or fig newtons, but if that's the only sweet available, I won't turn it down. And I'm for comfortable undergarments all the way!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
The only figs I have ever had were Fig Newtons too. lol
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your great Dr visit.
Have a good day!
Congratulations on the great cardio visit!!! Ya, the only figs I've eaten are Fig Newtons -- probably most recently in junior high. (LOL) Pass the nachos, please?
ReplyDeleteSO pleased that you had a great doctor's visit.. Hope the next surgery will go well with a very speddy recovery!
ReplyDeleteGood to know you're doing well health-wise!
ReplyDeleteAwesome news about your health! Keep on doing what you're doing!
ReplyDeleteSeveral Christmases ago (before she was married), Gabrielle wanted to make a figgy pudding. It was a lot of work! But it was really yummy. And really pretty too.
I had to take home-ec too, and sewing. Home-ec was fine, but sewing was a disaster for me. Lots of tears!!
Ah, yes, you might have been an architect, but if you had, I wonder if your life would be different than it is. I mean, would you still be married to the same man, still living where you are, etc?
My parents moved from Pennsylvania to Montana when I was 15. Had we stayed in PA, I had planned to go to Penn State. By not going to Penn State, I ended up elsewhere (Florida), where I met my husband. It's weird to think that our whole lives could be totally different just because of a single event.
Have a great day, Terri!!
I truly believe we follow the path our Lord has put before us and though I was upset about drafting at the time, I wouldn't have it work out any differently for me today. I am right where I am supposed to be and happy for it!
DeleteWhat a great cardiologist you have Terri. So caring of your whole body health. He is a treasure.
ReplyDeleteSuch good news on your knee. Well, you know I loved home ec, but I know it wasn't for everyone. I sewed many stitches for my best friend when the teacher turned her head:)
ReplyDeleteOh the underwear question...do I dare...type this.... my husband calls my underwear "grannie panties." I am all about comfort!
LOL... that is exactly what mine are! I just chose to not use those words today! Ha!
Deleteso sorry you couldn't take drafting! I also took home ec because that's what girls took. boys took shop. When my kids went to school, everyone took home ec and everyone took shop.
ReplyDeleteGirls took home ec and child development. Boys took shop and drafting. It's just the way is was back in the 60s.
DeleteSo you will replace the other one in January - good for you. And both of you are doing well. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know what Figgy Pudding is - lol. Thongs are stupid!!! Our little Disc was adopted and I love him so much!
Have a good one.
Sandie
Crazy to think that January doesnt sound that far away!!! Hopefully with one good knee going into this next surgery, it will help you recover even faster!
ReplyDeleteNo cooking with figs or plums for me either. Figgy pudding doesn't sound too great!
ReplyDeleteHooray for your good appointment!
Good news regarding your doctor appt. I'm glad things are coming together so well.
ReplyDeleteA lot of responses with street rescues. That is very surprising to me.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day!
