The Saturday 9: Molly Malone

Thursday, March 14, 2019

Molly Malone

From our hostess:  Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Molly Malone

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) Are you of Irish descent?  Yes (Kelly).

2) Legend has it that the heroine of this week's Irish ballad was a real lass. 17th-century birth and burial records confirm that a woman with that name lived in Dublin. Can you think of another song about a real historical figure?  I don't know how historical Buddy Holly is, but my first thought was about American Pie by Don McLean.

3) Molly sold fish from a cart that she wheeled through the streets. What's the last seafood you ate?  Shrimp. Yum.

4) The lyrics tell us that, after her death, her ghost continues to wander the streets of Dublin with her wheelbarrow. Do you believe in ghosts?  I actually do on a certain level.

5) This week's featured band, The Dubliners, are obviously from Dublin. They were introduced to American audiences on The Ed Sullivan Show. Today, Stephen Colbert tapes his show in The Ed Sullivan Theater. Who hosted the last talk show you watched? I don't watch talk shows anymore.

6) Corned beef and cabbage is a traditional St. Patrick's Day dish. Is it a favorite of yours?  Yes and it is on the menu for Sunday!

7) According to Irish legend, leprechauns earned the gold in the pot they guard by repairing shoes. Crazy Sam can't remember the last time she got a pair of shoes repaired. When the heels wear away, she discards the shoes and buys new ones. What about you? Do you get your shoes fixed (either by leprechauns or just by ordinary repairmen)?  It has been years since we took shoes to a repairman. I'm with Sam... just toss them and start over.

8) Do you look good in green, the signature color of St. Patrick's Day?  Green is my favorite color.  I think I look okay in green. My eyes are green and my skin is paler than pale.

9) Random question: Did you more recently sneeze or cough?  Now that my cold is over, I most recently sneezed.

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's questions!!  You can find her HERE!!

Thanks for your visit!
Peace & hugs!  God bless!

  3. First of all, I think you should wear green a lot because it is a good color for your personal 'color palette.' Beloved has green eyes and similar coloring to you and he looks good in green.

As for watching TV talk shows, I'm with you, I don't (or seldom, anyway) watch them. I don't like how people talk all over each other. They even do that on the news a lot these days and it infuriates me. Common courtesy to hear people out is a lost form of communication. At times it can be cute or just in fun, but it happens all the time on the major network TV news shows and I just can't stand it.

Enjoy your corned beef cabbage. We're not fans of it, but we will be wearing green!

  4. What a coincidence. I have just posted a Dubliners song on my Blog. Do you like them? I went to their concerts twice years ago - the original group as it was then.

Happy St Patrick's Day. God bless.

  6. There are a lot of us with green eyes! I love green eyes.
It seems like I coughed all winter and now I am starting to sneeze...not bad though. Loved your answers! Have a great weekend!

  7. American Pie is a great choice! Loved it then, love it now! Even now, when I can stay up as late as I want, there's not a talk-show host I could stomach. I'd rather meet a ghost than BE one!

  8. My eyes are hazel, but when I wear green, everybody comments on my green eyes! I think American Pie was a very good choice. For some reason, I had a hard time coming up with an answer to the question. Talk shows are not entertaining at all these days. Long, long ago when I was a teen, I stayed up at night to watch Johnny Carson and I enjoyed that. We also watched Dick Cavett and Mike Douglas for a while. Happy St. Patrick's Day and enjoy that corned beef and cabbage!

  9. Yes, Buddy Holly was a real person and an amazing musician who died in a plane crash when only in his twenties. Tragic!
And I have LOTS of Irish blood flowing through my veins, that's for sure. Wish I looked better in green, though!
    Blessings, Terri!

  12. We had our corned beef tonight, no cabbage however. We ended up eating a kind of a reuben w/o the sauerkraut. We are having pot roast tomorrow to celebrate Scott's birthday. We are all Scotch Irish and German here, and everyone but me has green eyes. Mine are blue. But I will be wearing green tomorrow for sure. Don't want to get pinched at church! LOL. Hope you have a great day tomorrow. God bless you and Joe and goodnight!!
