A Young & Beautiful Saturday 9...

Young and Beautiful

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Young and Beautiful (2013)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Lana Del Rey wrote this song for the soundtrack of The Great Gatsby. She wanted it to reflect the feelings of Daisy Buchanan. Have you read The Great GatsbyI have not read the book and have not seen the movie.

2) In the 1970s, Robert Redford portrayed Jay Gatsby. In the 2013 version, Leonardo di Caprio played the part. In real life, both "Gatsbys" have helped raise funds for the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council). Are you careful about recycling and conserving water/electricity?  I believe we are. We can't afford a higher bill for wasting resources.

3) Lana Del Rey admits that she dropped out of college because she simply could not get the required math credits. When confronted with basic addition, subtraction, multiplication or division, do you do it in your head?  I can do some basic calculations in my head, so yes.  Reach for pencil and paper?  Sometimes.  Or do you take advantage of the calculator that's on your desktop or phone?  I am inclined to double check my head with my calculator, yes.

4) She enjoys Kurt Cobain, Eminem, Elvis, and Sinatra. Which of those four gentlemen did you listen to most recently?  Sinatra!

5) Speaking of Sinatra, she has described her high maintenance look -- big hair, long nails, elaborate eye makeup, full lips -- as "Gangster Nancy Sinatra." How long does it take you, on an average day, to prepare to face the world?   Ha!!  I don't wear makeup anymore, so my face only requires my moisturizer, which also has sunscreen in it.  60 seconds, max for that and about 30 minutes, shower to dressed.

6) She's a big soccer fan, and her favorite team is Liverpool FC. Here in the US, college basketball fans are currently obsessed with March Madness. What's the last sporting event that you watched?  Basketball is on the TV all the time during March Madness.  Joe is a Villanova grad and follows his team faithfully.

7) Her younger sister, Caroline, studied photography and is responsible for some of Lana's publicity pictures. Have you ever gotten a job because of a relative?  Nope.

8) In 2013, when this song came out, Pope Francis became the first pope from a Latin American country. Latin America generally includes Mexico, most of Central and South America, and in the Caribbean, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. What's the farthest south that you've ever traveled?  Key West, Florida.

9) Random question -- What button would you prefer your life to have: rewind, fast forward or a pause?  None of those.  Let's just keep on keepin' on.  Life is good.

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's questions!!  You can visit her HERE!!

Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs!
God bless!!

  2. I've never seen or read The Great Gatsby either. I don't wear makeup and I always use my phone calculator.

  3. I read that book years ago, and never went to either movie. All I can recall about the novel is that I didn't care for it very much.
We recycle, too, Terri. It's the right thing to do.
    Blessings!

  4. I totally agree with 4 and 5. I am just excited for Auburn to be in the tournament so I have my team to watch this year. I am afraid Kansas will eliminate them in their next round.

  6. Keep-on keeping on. Yes!!!
I never read Gatsby, but watched the original with Redford. Despite feeling underwhelmed -- and because the author's wife was a Montgomery native -- the nearby F. Scott/Zelda Fitzgerald home invites tours -- I may yet download the book. Surprised to learn, it even contains a small apt. available for rent on Air B&B.

PS - I've been known to ask Alexa to solve my math questions. :)

    1. " -- but because" I meant. Geesh, methinks I need a remedial grammar lesson.

  8. As I just commented over at Ann's place, we try to conserve electricity. Hubby goes around and turns off the lights after I leave a room, and I go back in that room and turn the lights back on. This goes on all day long. You'd think after 50 years together he'd realize that I'm going back in that room eventually, so he might as well leave the lights on!! LOL. I try to do math the old way, in my head, but my head doesn't recognize it anymore and tells me to grab the calculator! After so many years working as a bookkeeper, my brain has quit working in that department...it retired! LOL. I wouldn't want to rewind my life unless I could make some changes on the rewind. I think it's better to keep moving forward and not look back, but pause to smell the roses along the way. I still put on makeup in the morning...some things should never change...at least for me...LOL. Have a blessed day..

  9. I'm with you, keep on keepin' on! I vaguely remember reading that book, but never saw the movie, because I'm pretty sure I didn't like the book. Three times I came to your blog and thought I hit the wrong button because it looked like the Saturday 9 page! Haha! Have a great weekend.
