Saturday 9 is Up On The Roof...

Up on the Roof

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Up on the Roof (1979)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) JT sings that, when the world gets him down, he goes up on the roof to find peace. When you're "feeling tired and beat," what do you do to cheer yourself up?  If you know me, you know my answer is to eat.  Comfort food.

2) He sings that, at night, the stars put on a show for free. Are you economizing, or sticking to a budget?  Economizing and trying to stick to a budget which lately seems to get broken too often.

3) In addition to recording this song for his album, Flag, James Taylor surprised the song's composer and his good friend. Carole King by performing it the night she received her Kennedy Center Honor (see link above). Tell us about a good turn a friend has done for you recently.  Our friend, Lew, who is an Elder at our new church, has pulled us into the fold and helped to welcome us and make us feel at home at Redeemer.  Our neighbors here in Mas Verde are always inviting us and doing good turns. I hope that we are doing the same for all of them.

4) James Taylor and Carole King have been good friends for decades, but they have never been romantically involved. Do you have platonic friends of the opposite sex?  Yes, my friend Gregory is a wonderful (and platonic) friend. We worked together at the Museum for 20 years.

5) James was born in the Boston hospital where his father worked as a resident physician. Are there any doctors or nurses in your family?  I have two nephews who are doctors!  Dr. Matt (my niece Sara's husband) is a resident and Dr. Mike (Sara's brother) is an intern.  Proud of them both!!

6) When James was young, his family moved to Chapel Hill, NC. James has vivid memories of how beautiful the area was in all four seasons. What's your favorite time of year?  I live in Florida and love all four seasons here, but winter especially!  No humidity and cooler temps.

7) In 1979, when this recording was popular, ESPN launched. Do you often watch that cable sports channel?  I watch games with Joe (sometimes). He has ESPN on frequently.

8)  Also in 1979, the Voyager spacecraft sent photos back to earth that revealed Jupiter's rings. Without looking it up, can you name all the planets in our solar system?  Gosh... earth, saturn, jupiter, neptune, mercury, pluto, venus, neptune.  Didn't one of them get demoted?  I don't remember.

9) Random question: Our Saturday 9 Wizards give you a choice -- you can be 20 years old and gorgeous, 30 years old and brilliant, or 40 years old and rich. Which do you choose?  LOL... I could say that I am already gorgeous, I am already brilliant so all that's left is to be rich but in truth, I really don't want to go back to any of those ages.  I am so happy and content right where I am.

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can visit HERE to join in!!

Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs!
God bless!!

  2. I always enjoyed listening to James Taylor when I was growing up, and learned to play many of his songs on the guitar. Good memories!
And like you, Terri, I'm content to be who and where I am right now.
    Have a blessed weekend!

  7. It's good to just be content. It will take you further than beauty, wisdom or riches!

  8. #8 I think Pluto got 'demoted' to something less than a planet, which just doesn't seem right to me after all these years!

  9. Fun answers, Terri. I am glad you are content. I am semi-content --lol---and will be more so when we find a "til time dies' home of our own. xo Diana

  10. 1. I go for a walk and take my camera and look for things to take pictures of...or I go to the Secret Garden... #3, since retiring we have been on a very strict budget...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Being on a fixed income is not for sissies or extravagant folks! LOL. #9...the 40 and rich sounds inviting...but I really don't want to go back there again either. 68 and retired is fine with me. We may not be rich in material worth, but we've got Jesus...so what more do we need?

  11. I love this song although I haven't heard it in years. Always takes me right back to high school. I would have given the same answer for, "What do you do to cheer yourself up?" :)
