NATIONAL CROISSANT DAY – January 30
NATIONAL CROISSANT DAY
In the United States, National Croissant Day is observed each year on January 30th. Croissants are a buttery, crescent-shaped rolls that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
The key to a perfect croissant is laminating the dough. Laminating the dough is a process by which butter is folded into the mixture creating multiple thin layers of butter and dough. The result is a mouth-watering flaky crust and airy body.
Legend surrounds this pastry, as is often the case with a popular, worldly treat. What is known, is that crescent-shaped breads have been found around the world for ages. One of these was the Kipferl which originated in Austria as far back as the 13th century. This nonlaminated bread is more like a roll.
Credit for the croissant we know today is given to an Austrian military officer, August Zang. In 1939 he opened a Viennese bakery in Paris introducing France to Viennese baking techniques.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Stop by the bakery for a fresh, warm croissant or try making your own using this recipe: Croissants recipe.
1. Well, I do love croissants when they are fresh, but day-old croissants need to be turned into a donut. I happen to really like the croissants that have a donut-like glaze on them! Sugar overload but so good. So... do you like croissants? Yes, if they are bakery fresh. I don't like the Pillsbury croissants you roll yourself. What is your favorite way to eat them? Butter, ham salad, egg salad... or those croissant donuts you can find at Publix!
2. Speaking of food... How do you handle stress? A leading question, but when I get a little stressed I go right for the comfort food. Carbs, carbs, and more carbs.
3. Out of the negative emotions of greed, anger, jealousy, and hate, which one would you say affects you the most? I guess it is hardest for me to handle hate. I really don't hate anyone. It is such a strong emotion. The news today is so full of hate and hateful stories. I don't understand how people can continue to live their life when it is full of hatred. Life is just too short for hate.
4. Out of the positive emotions of compassion, positivity, enthusiasm, and initiative, which one is your biggest strength? I try to be positive about everything that life throws at me. I also try to always be compassionate. I am not always enthusiastic about some things and I don't always step up and take the initiative.
5. What do you get every time you go grocery shopping, other than the staples such as bread, milk, butter, flour, sugar... Cheese. We always have cheese in the house and Joe would say that peanut butter is a staple. You can probably throw in ice cream too. Ha!
6. Please tell us something random about your week so far. Yesterday started out at the office with one patient scheduled. We ended the morning with six patients. At least it made the day go faster!! Joe said he was tired of the hamburger/hotdog dinner at the Clubhouse on Tuesday nights so we did not go up there last night. I used to always buy Idaho russet potatoes but a while back I picked up a bag of golden potatoes. Oh my goodness are they good!! They are so creamy when baked or boiled for mashed potatoes and I wedge them and fry them in my Fry Daddy to make French fries. Delicious. I don't think I'll ever buy russets again. I guess that's about three random things all thrown together here!
Thanks for visiting today!! The linky is below if you are joining the Medley today!
Peace & hugs!! God bless!!

What is your favourite way to eat them? (Croissants)
ReplyDeleteHanging upside down from a hammock.
God bless.
I love croissants but rarely eat them because they are so fattening!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of potatoes, the most delicious potatoes I've ever eaten are the red potatoes out of Red River Valley Potatoes in North Dakota. They also are smooth and tender and delicious!! Russets go to the back of the line. Lol. Thanks for the Medley, Terri!
ReplyDeleteI too am so weary of all the hate going on in America, and it seems to get worse every day. God surely will come back soon. I am a big potato eater....baked, fried, mashed or any way one can prepare them. Croissants are a treat for me as I dont have them often. Hope your temps have warmed back up to Florida temps!
ReplyDeleteThe hate people have today for other people is so sad...I can't imagine. Have a great rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteWe've discovered the joys of gold and red potatoes, too. The russets are so bland in comparison. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you when it comes to comfort food. Thanks for the great questions. Enjoy your week, Terri.
ReplyDeleteGold potatoes are the best.
ReplyDeleteI love egg, bacon + cheese croissant breakfast sandwiches. Yum!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I like the gold potatoes better than the russets, too. There's always cheese in this house, too but I think it's considered more a staple. And I would agree with Joe about peanut butter. Have a lovely Wednesday!

ReplyDeleteI just ate this entire blogpost. Burp!
Also...croissant donuts?? Gasp...
Yes, I would agree that those gold potatoes are creamier than russets. We love cheese, too, so that is always in our fridge. And I'll take a warm, fresh croissant any day of the week!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Terri!
We had a croissant this morning at le Madeleine! It was perfect! Thank you for the Medley!
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing with comfort food when I am stressed, but it is kind of a new thing for me that I have started the past couple of years.
ReplyDeleteI love Croissants! Loved your answers! Have a great day!

I'm going to remember those goldens the next time Tom gets a hankering for a baked potato. Once I lose these last 5 lbs., you can bet peanut butter's going back on my weekly shopping list! I even used to travel with a jar of JIF Extra-Crunchy! Meanwhile … pass the egg salad, please! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteLoved your random ramble lol. We always have cheese in the house too. Thanks for the questions Terri.
ReplyDeleteI'm all about picking up Nacho cheese every time at the grocery :) Use on chips - put on veggies - dip in pretzels - YUM!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, now you have me intrigued. I'll have to get some golden potatoes next time. lol
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, put I love the Pillsbury Croissants probably better than most others I've tried.
I am so with you on your answer #3...it hurts my heart that this world has become so full of hate. I have heard so much about how good the golden potatoes are...I really must pick me up some of them! I'm thinking the little tiny ones would be so good! And I have to confess...I love those Pillsbury crescent rolls! Thanks for the fun questions this week!
ReplyDeleteThe golden potatoes are indeed so good. I use them for lots of things.
ReplyDeleteWe always have cheese and peanut butter in the house, but other than cheese sticks they are not items I buy every week. Think those are apples, almond milk, and bananas.
It is indeed so sad that our world is full of hate on every side. I guess we shouldn't be surprised, though -- Jesus did say that things would grow worse and worse. The way I see it is that as believers we need to take the opportunity to respond differently and show a little light in the darkness.
Thanks for the heads up on the golden potatoes Terri. Like you I have never met a carb I did not like.lol
ReplyDeleteMr D thinks peanut butter is a staple too and you can usually find some in our pantry! I love cheese, all flavors! It seems to be so much hate in our wonderful USA, it's very sad. I try not to hate anything or anyone, but I sure do get down right angry with a lot of things going on in the political world. But, eventually calm down and take it to the Lord in prayer. Hope you and Joe are enjoying the day!
ReplyDeleteHi Terri,
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the hate as well. It breaks my heart because my kids are young and all they see in the media is hate. I will keep my chin up and encourage my boys to do the same.
Thank you for the Medley Terri,
Carla
Yep - comfort food for me, too. Carbs and ice cream! lol I, too, am sick of all the hate that is being spewed out there and that there is so much wicked in the world right now.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful night-xo Diana
I am so tired of all the hate too. We don't all have to agree, but we should be able to get along.
ReplyDeleteI've never had golden potatoes. I better try them!
I switched to golden potatoes a while ago too and they are much better! I made mashes last night, actually!
ReplyDeletePublix's croissants ARE really top notch, aren't they?
