A big thanks to Sam Winters for this week's Saturday 9 meme! You can find her and the questions HERE if you want to join in!
I Love Lucy
Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: I Love Lucy (1951)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Before today, did you know that the "I Love Lucy" theme had lyrics? Yes, I did. I have been a Lucy fan for years and years and have heard the words before.
2) Since its premiere in 1951, I Love Lucy has never been off the air. Are you a fan? I am still and always will be a fan of Lucy.
3) On the show, Ricky Riccardo supports his family by performing in a nightclub. Do you know anyone in show business? Yes, I do! My cousin is Justin Chambers, who plays Alex on Grey's Anatomy. Our moms were first cousins.
4) Lucy and Ricky's best friends are Fred and Ethel, their landlord and his wife. Are you friendly with your neighbors? We are SO blessed to have wonderful neighbors and yes, we socialize and help each other when needed.
5) One of the most popular episodes has Lucy and Ethel working on the conveyor belt at a chocolate factory. When did you last have chocolate? I probably have chocolate in some form every day.
6) Another famous episode has Lucy promoting Vitametavegimin. This tonic is made with vitamins, meat, vegetables -- and 23% alcohol. Do you read the ingredients statement before you take an over-the-counter medication? Or do you trust that it's safe because it's on the store shelf? I don't use many OTC medicines and when I do it is with our doctor's okay. I don't spend much time reading ingredients because I trust our doctor. She knows what we can take with our prescription medications.
7) I Love Lucy was filmed before a live audience. Desi Arnaz (Ricky) always maintained he could identify the chuckle of his mother-in-law, who attended every taping. Do you know anyone who has a distinctive laugh? Joe does, but not in a bad way. Another family member who will remain nameless here snorts when she laughs which makes us all laugh even harder.
8) The show ended when the Lucille Ball/Desi Arnaz marriage ended. Have you ever had to choose sides when a couple broke up? A few times, but it really hit home the hardest when my first husband and I got divorced. Losing friends and (his) family was a lot harder than losing him. :(
9) Random question -- You must eat the same dinner, every day, between now and Labor Day. An identical menu, no deviation. What will you be having? A loaded hamburger, corn on the cob, and crispy french fries. Then I would be on a diet of lettuce after Labor Day. And that is just what sounds good right now. Ask me tomorrow and the menu would probably change. Ha! Like shrimp and crab legs with lots of melted butter.
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks for your visit today!! Happy weekend! Peace & hugs to all!

I love the community you describe for us. It always sounds like a great place to live.
ReplyDeleteI was blessed with a great mother-in-law. (I was actually closer to her than I am to my own mother.) When I married her son she always said I fit right in looks-wise as daughter #6 and as we got to know each other she told my husband that if we ever split up she was kicking him to the curb and keeping me! I guess it's fair that if that were to happen my mom would probably keep him over me. LOL
I am a huge Lucy fan. She still makes me laugh when I watch her.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Thats when humor was truly humor without the nonsense that goes with it today, Same with carol Burnett.
ReplyDeleteTerri, I have the whole set of I Love Lucy on DVD. I have always LOVED Lucy. How exciting that you have a relative on tv. My nephew, Barry, was on Baby's First Day on TLC years ago. He was doing his obstetrical residency at Vanderbilt where it was filmed.
ReplyDeleteI am the odd ball here........never watched much Lucy, and dont know either....it was silly to me. There are re-runs on tv now, but I flip the channels when I see it come up. I like the foods you mentioned you will eat between now and Labor Day....we will do similar. Hope you have a good Saturday.
ReplyDeleteNow you really made me chuckle about the friend who snorts when she laughs because we have a friend like that, too. And sometimes I even have! We love laughing! A loaded hamburger is just so good every time. I'm curious as to why your link doesn't show up sometimes on this meme and sometimes the Hodgepodge.
ReplyDeleteProbably because I neglect to visit and put myself in the link. My bad.
DeleteI remember the Lucille Ball shows. Do you remember the Dick Van Dyke shows with Mary Tiller-Moore?
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Never watched much of I Love Lucy. My mother restricted our television watching tightly when my brother and I were growing up, and I don't recall her loosening the reins until we were about 11 or 12. She certainly was a funny lady, though!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Terri!
I LOVED Lucy. I thought she was my real mother because she had red hair and so did I, and my own mother was a brunette. I used to play like I was Lucy when I was little, and my little boy doll that I had was Little Ricky. My sister was "Mary", not Ethel. She didn't like that name I guess. But we played like we were Lucy and Ethel. It was fun. I could still watch her every day if I wanted to, but I don't really watch that much TV anymore. I loved the vitametavegimen show, and the chocolate one too. I also remember going to a movie when i was a child with Lucy and Ricky, "The Long Trailer", and all I remember was something about her dumping coleslaw or a cake or something on someone accidentally. I was very young when I saw that. Okay, that's it. Don't think I could eat hamburger and corn on the cob and french fries for that long, however. I love it, but it doesn't love me...corn especially...and fries too. Not sure what I'd choose...maybe bbq chicken, deviled eggs, and something other than potato salad...LOL.
ReplyDeletePass the fries, will you? :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVED the Lucy & Desi show ... it's non-caustic/non-sarcastic theme that passes for humor these days.
I loved Lucy also. All those episodes you described I have seen so many times. I still laugh at them. hugs, lj
ReplyDeleteAnother set of fun questions...
ReplyDeleteYes, a loaded hamburger and fries sounds good to me too. I just enjoyed a patty melt and fries for lunch. I could eat that every day. Then again, if I did eat that every day, I would be the size of a building.
I'm so sorry that you lost friends and family when you and your first husband divorced. That's so hard. We have lost a few friendships when couples divorced.
Have a great day,
Patti
