There was nothing on our calendar for Friday except to meet friends at the Clubhouse for a few games of Nickels. There is a group of a dozen of us who are rogue game players. It isn't on the activity calendar, we just go and have some fun. We were blessed to be invited into the group by our across-the-street neighbors, Anne and Paul. There is a group of Hand n' Foot card players who are always there and also a group of men playing Texas Hold 'em, but we are by far the largest and loudest group. LOL It is a silly game played with dice and nickels and the winner of each game gets to keep the nickels the rest of us lose. It's not really gambling but is a game of luck and chance. It moves fast and if you are too slow...well that's when it can get loud and funny. Last Friday, a couple of regulars didn't come and one couple brought their visiting daughter, Stacy. It didn't take her long to fit right in! Good people. We have lots of fun from 7:00-9:00 on most Friday nights.
Saturday we got up and readied ourselves for a trip to Punta Gorda (about a 2-hour ride for us and 1 1/2 hours for them from Naples) to meet up with our grandson, Tristan, and his mom, Kathy. Kathy made reservations at the Captain's Table which is located in the Fisherman's Village (a shopping and eating complex). We got there about 10 minutes before they did....
Kathy and I had the Coconut Crusted Mahi
Joe had the Pastrami Burger
Tristan had the Old Fashioned Burger
Everything was delicious!
It was good to catch up with them. We congratulated Tristan on his great grades for his last semester. He got 3 As and 2 Bs. All he does is study. He is completing five years in four. I asked him if he was having any fun at all and he basically said no. Kind of sad but he is focused and driven to get it done. Kathy and her husband Jim are well. Granddaughter Lauren couldn't make it over for this trip but Kathy said they would meet us in Punta Gorda in February. Looking forward to that. Kathy's mom is having some serious surgery next week and Kathy is headed for Virginia to be with her folks during her surgery and recovery. Prayers appreciated.
It was COLD and the wind off the water was COLD but Punta Gorda really is beautiful....
When we finished our lunch and gift exchanging and talking... Tristan wanted to visit a Military Museum that is in the Fisherman's Village so we headed there. It was interesting and best of all, was free admission. It is well done and many of the artifacts have been donated by people who live in Punta Gorda. Tristan is interested in everything military and collects WWII artifacts.
Yes, that is Joe...
A Vietnamese POW cage. Frightening.
Joe pointed out the rifle and handgun like he trained with when he was in the Army.
Tristan 'dressed up' for the picture. They had all kinds of uniforms and props.
Kathy and I left 'the boys' for a time and shopped a few of the shops that were close-by. It's all kind of touristy but there are also regular shops too. We enjoyed the afternoon and got home by 4:30.
Sunday was a lazy day. I did laundry on Friday so yesterday I just tidied up here and there. After having pancakes and sausage for breakfast, Joe didn't want me to cook anymore. We had PBJs for lunch and made subs for supper. The temps moved up to the low 60s which was great and we are to be back in the 70s today and through the week.
Today I am taking Helen to a doctor's appointment at 1:00 and I'll go to the ladies' coffee this morning at 9:00. Tomorrow evening we are taking Al and Theresa out to dinner as a thank-you for helping us put the Christmas decorations away.
So, how was your weekend? Thanks for your visit! Peace & hugs!

What a good looking young man and totally focused on his education. I am sure he will do great things. It is warmer here this week as well..so thankful for seasonal temps!! I am a southern girl through and through and the cold was driving me crazy.
ReplyDeleteOh boy, how I can relate to all study and no free time...keeping Tristan in prayer...no burning out, young man (shaking my finger and using the mom voice, smiles).
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your photos, Terri. smiles I hope you have you have a lovely day.
Oh, it's handprints! I couldn't figure the flag out for a minute.
ReplyDeleteThese photos remind me of my oldest nephew. He is in the military. We never know where he is because he can't tell us.
Thanks for your comment on my post about Bono. It's a small world, isn't it? ;-D
Take care.
Warmed up to 25 feels like 14 this morning. I can't wait for this snow to go away.
ReplyDeleteNickels sounds fun.
Have a great day!
I dont know how you did all you do while still working, but glad you have more time to enjoy everything and everybody. I know you all are proud of Tristan and rightly so, but wish he could have some fun now and then too. We are to warm up some later this week and I am ready for that. Our weekend was kinda 'blah'! lol
ReplyDeleteFun & loud games are totally up my alley.
ReplyDeleteWhat A cool museum to be free. I love people donate stuff. So nice to let others enjoy the history
I love that you have a clubhouse in your retirement community. A wonderful place to meet and fellowship with your neighbors.
ReplyDeleteCold, huh? Let's talk about cold. LOL.
ReplyDeleteThe crowd to play games with sounds like a lot of fun. I'm glad you have that so handy.
My husband would love that museum.
Glad you got to take that trip! I really like the picture of Joe and Tristan. He is going to be successful, I can tell!
ReplyDeleteThe card games sound fun too!
What a great looking young man, your Tristan! I know you and Joe are so proud of the man he's becoming.
ReplyDeleteThis post brings back SO many memories. If I'd a dollar for every time we set foot at Fisherman's Village... oh, my goodness!
I Googled the merchant map, and best I can figure, 'our' restaurant used to lay where Harpoon Harry's is now, to the left of the Captain's table. It was destroyed by Hurricane Charley in 2004, but I can still close my eyes ...
I would love to walk through the Village with you, Myra!! When are you coming down?!! :)
DeleteThat would be so cool! Have to pinch myself to realize we're talking a day's drive vs. those awful airplanes.
DeleteMy weekend? Too cold but we'll hang in there like everybody else.
ReplyDeleteLoved your pics of the water in Punta Gorda. Proud of Tristan for working so hard with his classes. It shows his appreciation for a good education.
