Turn Me Loose
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!
Saturday 9: Turn Me Loose (1959)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Fabian sings he has change in his pocket. Every evening, Sam puts her change in the piggy bank on her kitchen counter. Do you do anything special with your coins? Or do they just jingle/jangle in your wallet or pocket until you spend them? We have a bank where Joe and I deposit our coins.
2) Fabian got his start because his neighbor in Philadelphia owned a record label and thought 14-year-old Fabian had the looks to be a teen idol. Tell us about a time recently when you were in the right place at the right time. It's not recent (at all!) but when Joe and I met on a Monday night in 1983 we were both in the right place at the right time. The stars aligned and we were there!
3) His record label paid Fabian $30 week to study singing after school. What jobs/chores did you have when you were in high school? Did they prepare you for your eventual career? I babysat frequently, I worked summers in Weldon's Ice Cream Factory and I also cleaned rooms at Motel 37. None of them prepared me to be an accountant or in human resources, but they did instill in me a work ethic and taught me to be responsible.
4) In 1959 he appeared on the cover of now-defunct magazines like Teen Screen and Dig. Who and what did you read about when you were a teenager? Neither of those titles sounds familiar but I did read movie magazines and also True Story magazine.
5) In the 1960s he moved from singing to acting. In 1965 he appeared in Ten Little Indians, a screen adaptation of an Agatha Christie mystery. Have you ever read an Agatha Christie book? Isn't it crazy that I don't believe I ever have read her? I love mysteries. I need to download one to my Kindle and give her a try.
6) In 1973, in an attempt to jumpstart his career, he appeared nude in Playgirl magazine. By the time it hit the newsstands, he regretted it. Tell us about a time you were very embarrassed. Oh, I've told that story several times. It has to do with a job interview and a booger hanging out my nose.
9) Random Question: While we're talking about TV ... Sam finds it disturbing that her brother claims he's seen every episode of Bad Blood, a show devoted to family members who have murdered their relatives. Do you enjoy "true crime" reality shows? Not so much. They usually just anger me.
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and commented on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

7) In 1959, when this song was popular, most women wore nylons on a daily basis and the average price per pair was $1. What socks or legwear -- if any -- do you have on right now? No socks or nylons. This is Florida. I rarely wear socks.
8) 1959 also saw the premiere of The Twilight Zone on CBS. 58 years later, you can still see the show in reruns. Are you a fan? I am a fan and catch the reruns every now and then.

Happy Saturday!! Peace & hugs.

I still giggle over that story about the booger, lol. I enjoyed your meme, Terri. Hope you have a beautiful day, looks to be another rainy day here in western NY.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great Saturday!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
ReplyDeleteMemories of "Band Stand" come to mind with the thoughts of Fabian. It was live from Phila and a must see when I got home from school...
ReplyDeleteI loved Bandstand too!!
DeleteOh yes..I remember being introduced to Fabian via my aunt who was 9 years older than me. She would have dance parties with her friends in her room and I was NOT invited.:)
ReplyDeleteHad a big crush on Fabian back in the day, lol. Couldn't replace Elvis though. My mom got my name from a True Confessions mag, lol... Not into true crime stories either, they also make me mad. Hugs, LJ
ReplyDeleteI need to give Agatha Christie another try. I tried once a long time ago and just couldn't get into it. I love mysteries, though. Maybe my more "mature" mind will appreciate her?
ReplyDeleteThat booger story is a good one! I would have died. LOL
What a sweet answer to #2! Kismet, for sure.
ReplyDeleteFunny, 1983 was the best year of my life, as well. 'Didn't work out as well as yours, but can't beat the memories.
Your new background is great! :)
