Friday Foto Friends....

Linking up with Deb at Breathing In Grace for Friday Foto Friends!!

This is a BIG weekend for Polk Museum of Art. I've mentioned it a few times lately and those of you who have been connected with me here for awhile will remember years past since I always post photos of our amazing....rated 20th in the top 200 art festivals NATIONWIDE...Mayfaire by-the-Lake!  We're very proud!

I took a little walk out and about yesterday.  Thursday is the day we can see the spaces marked off for the artists to put their tents (160 artists!) and the stage is up on the Library lawn for performances and announcements all weekend.  The ducks and swans seem to know something is up, but it was fun to see some little cygnets swimming with their mom & dad.  The City Parks and Rec guys have beautiful flowers planted in the beds around the parking lot and they were out marking tree roots and sprinkler heads with orange paint so people can see them and hopefully not trip.  The golf carts were delivered today too.  We have shuttles running from the parking lots and also around the lake, so there are lots of volunteers engaged for the weekend, driving golf carts (we call them May Ferries) and also working in the T-Shirt tent and the Children's Art Tent.  So my 'fotos' follow from my little walkabout yesterday afternoon.....

We all get kind of casual (more so than usual) Mayfaire week.  I wore jeans and a vintage Mayfaire t-shirt from 2005 yesterday.  Silly me, taking a picture in the mirror so you could see it....backward! Hahaha.  I take awful selfies so thought this would work. At least you get the idea.  I am wearing one today from 2001!!  Picture later, perhaps.

I mentioned on Facebook that my friends, Hattie and Murph, popped in at the Museum yesterday morning.  Murph used to work in my department quite a few years ago.  When he retired, they moved back to Michigan to be closer to the kids and grandkids.  His mom and sister are still here, so they make it down a couple of times a year.  Mayfaire and Mother's Day make a perfect time for a visit.  They always bring us some of Hattie's homemade summer sausage (delicious!) and this time they brought us an anniversary gift.  Their neighbor is making these (wood and rocks!) to sell and they got this one for us.  I LOVE it and it is perfect.  They know us well!!  Hoping to get out to dinner or lunch with them before they head back.

Murph and Hattie with me at Mayfaire in 2008.

Happy Friday to you and thanks for your visit! Wish you could all visit Mayfaire this weekend!  Peace & hugs!!

  2. Love the swans and ducks and all of the above...and YOU in your selfie! So cute! Have a wonderful weekend at your Mayfaire, and enjoy your Mother's Day. It's gonna be a hot one, but we have so much to be thankful for in spite of the heat and drought, don't we? Still, praying for rain, but not on your fair!! God bless you my friend.

  3. Mayfaire always looks fun. I love May Ferries, such a cute name for golf carts.

We were at a trail last week and didn't see any babies yet. The swans were sitting on nests so maybe by now there are babies. Baby swans are so cute.

    Have a fun weekend!

  8. Serving on our company's safety committee (and being a Champion Tripper myself) I sure like the idea of painting the roots and sprinkler heads.

There's little we used to enjoy more than an outdoor arts festival; gosh, I wish I'd made it a point to attend a Mayfaire when in Florida. 'Wishing y'all a super weekend!

PS - That's an adorable 'selfie'!
