A High Tide Saturday 9....

The Tide Is High

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: The Tide Is High (1980)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song was originally performed in 1966 by a Jamaican band called The Paragons. Jamaica is the most popular vacation destination in the Caribbean. What's your ideal vacation? (Relaxing on the beach, sightseeing in a new city, skiing the slopes, spending time with family, etc.)  I LOVE spending time with family, but have always said that doing that is not a vacation.  I want to relax, have someone else cook, do dishes and make the beds when I am on vacation.  I like sightseeing, but not frenzied sightseeing.  Throw in a day at the beach between seeing sights, or a day to just chill and go at our own pace.  This also means no camping and no renting a house or condo that I still have to clean.  Give me a hotel room and good places to eat and shop.  White sand is a plus but not necessarily necessary.

2) In this song, Debbie Harry sings that she's not the kind of girl who gives up easily. How about you? Do you hang on stubbornly? Or do you know when to say "when?"  I usually know when to say when, but do have a stubborn streak when it is called for.  I don't give in if my principles, integrity or safety are involved.

3) Blondie is a group that took it's name from the lead singer's most identifiable characteristic, her hair. If your band was named after your hair, what would it be called?  Curly Mess.  Frizzy Frazzled.

4) Before her career as a singer took off, Debbie supported herself as a waitress. She even served drinks while wearing bunny ears and tail at The Playboy Club. Have you ever worked in food service?  I dipped ice cream two years in the summers during high school.  I owned my own cake bakery for nearly four years.  Food service is a thankless, exhausting business.

5) Debbie points to David Bowie as a major influence on her music and career. What's your favorite Bowie song?  I had to go look at his song list. I can't say that any are a favorite. Sorry.

6) In 1980, when this song was popular, the best selling issue of Rolling Stone featured Robert Redford on the cover. Who is your all-time favorite actor?  I will always watch a Donald O'Connell movie.  Then there is Sam Elliott.  Maybe not the best actors, but I still love Donald's musicals and humor  (the dancing!!!) and Sam Elliott's good looks.

7) In 1980, Ted Turner revolutionized how we watch TV when he introduced CNN. Do you have any subscriptions services in addition to cable -- like Hulu, Amazon Prime or Netflix?  We have Roku and a Fire Stick. We subscribe to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Acorn and Starz.

8) John Lennon was murdered in 1980. Today there's a specially landscaped section of Central Park called Strawberry Fields in his honor. If you had a day to spend in New York, what would you want to see?  I haven't been to NYC since 1970. I would go to art museums if I went now, but I really have no desire to go to NYC.  I detest the crowds, traffic and noise in big cities.  Been there, done that.  Too old now and no real interest.

9) We're going shopping! Which do you need to add to your wardrobe: underwear, shoes or a swimsuit?  None of those.  Let's look at purses please. I don't need one (or two or three) but I do have a weakness for purses.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's Saturday 9!

Thanks to you for peeking in today. Happy Saturday!  Peace & hugs for all.

  2. I agree with you on vacation. I don't want to cook, clean or make my bed. I want others to do that for me.

Sam Elliot will always be Lifeguard. Loved that movie. I love his new Netflix show, The Ranch. Lots of f word usage but it's so funny.
    Have a great weekend!

  4. That clip was a blast from the past. Funny, a lot of these songs I know but never saw who actually sung them and what they looked like. Many songs played on the radio never were named nor the singer mentioned in those days. Have a great weekend

  5. Give me the hotel room when someone else cleans up every day and I just have to have fun! Have been to NYC and one time was enough for me too. I dont like crowds or traffic. Tom Selleck would be one of mine and Harrison Ford the other. I am not a shopper at all; just go get what I need and go home. Blessings to you and Joe today.

  7. Amen to what you said about vacations. There's just something so 'ymmm' about getting in a clean, freshly-made bed every evening.
Off the top of my head, I don't believe I've ever heard a David Bowie song.

  8. Oh my yes to Sam Elliot. He could just stand there for 2 hours and I'd be happy. LOL
We share that "weakness" for purses. I'm going to a purse and pistol bash tomorrow. It's like a gun bash except they alternate giving away a pistol with a designer purse. I have guns. I want to win purses!!

  9. So you like purses! I would like to know how many you have? I love purses too, but I don't like to change purses. So, my cousin, Mary, makes all these nice purses that I like and buy but never use them then because I like all the little compartments in ole faithful.
