We had a full day yesterday and are looking forward to a slower pace these next few days.
Jeff's girlfriend's parents live in Clermont, which is about an hour north of Lakeland. They invited us for brunch yesterday. We were to deliver Jeff to them and they will get the "kids" to the Orlando airport today, for their trip back to Virginia. We had never met the parents before, or Kali's sister, so we were a little anxious about it. Not to worry. They were gracious hosts and Maureen had prepared a delicious lunch for us! Shrimp quiche, ham quiche, a potato casserole, banana bread, pumpkin bread and smoked salmon bruschetta (delicious!). There was also mimosas and coffee. Kali's family are from Jamaica, but her folks are US citizens and her dad is a retired colonel from the air force. Her mom is a retired elementary school teacher. Her sister, Leslie, is working on her Ph.D. in art, so we had a lot to talk about. They were all delightful and we were made to feel like family.

We left their company after almost three hours because Joe and Darlene were on their way. After we headed home, Joey texted that Darlene hurt her knee really bad and they decided she should stay home and stay off of it and possibly get to the doctor, but Joey came by himself. We will enjoy our time with him and hope that Darlene will be okay. Her son is there with her - she isn't home alone with a bad knee! Anyway, we ran to Sam's Club and Publix for a few things to supplement the leftover ham from Christmas dinner. Joey arrived safely and we have already spoken with Darlene on the phone...and the grand-puppies.
Oh, our garbage disposal quit working on Christmas day, so the plumber is coming this morning. Just what we needed to happen. A new disposal for new owners (someday soon we hope). Merry Christmas! LOL
We'll see what the next few days bring. Joyce is taking this week off from the Hodgepodge, so I may not have much of a post for tomorrow. I appreciate your visit today!! Peace & hugs!!

Banana bread! Yum. I can smell that sweet aroma from here.
ReplyDeletePoor Kali is short, isn't she. My SIS in law is "height challenged" and has the hardest time buying clothes, just like a person that's super tall.
Sorry to hear about the garbage disposal. Ours have 4 legs and never breaks down. *giggle* ~:)
hey...I'm super short, being all of 5'0 {{giggling}}. No garage disposal here, and Coffee isn't allowed scraps {{giggling over Sparky's comment}}.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day Terri.
So glad you're getting in all this important family time and making memories. Happy Tuesday! (love your blue, wintery background)
ReplyDeleteSorry about your disposal. I've never had one but I've heard they are handy. Sounds like you had a yummy lunch.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Sounds like you had a wonderful day and are enjoying this end of year lull, too.
ReplyDeleteSam's Club...hmm, maybe I will get my hubby to head there today.
Are you off work this entire week? You have enjoyed family and new friends and am wondering when you are going to relax! lol Sorry about the disposal and hope the plumber can fix it quickly. I know you want everything in working order to be able to sell the house soon.
ReplyDeleteI am off all week, but have yet to get to sleep in. The plumber was here at 9:00 a.m. and we got a new disposal. Sigh.
DeleteI always enjoy the relating of your activities, pictures of the people in your life and reciting the menus you've enjoyed. That Christmas tree is sure pretty, as well.
ReplyDeleteAh, a new garbage disposal for the new owners... isn't that just the way things work?!
Sounds like a wonderful visit with Jeff's girlfriend's family...and an exchange of new cultures and foods...always interesting and fun. So sorry about Darlene's knee...and also your disposal. Glad the disposal is fixed (new), and praying Darlene's knee will be as good as new soon. Happy you have time off to enjoy your family and friends...and take care of the plumber too. God is good. It just might be that the new disposal will be the selling point needed to make the sale! Ha! Happy New Year!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are having a fun time. Best way to spend the holidays. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteKali's such a pretty little thing, isn't she? She and Jeff look so happy, I can't help but wish GOOD things for them.
ReplyDelete... and that tree? Wowzer!
Sorry about Darlene's knee. That was mighty nice Joey elected to make the trip anyway. What a great feeling, to realize how much you're loved. :)
Kali is my older granddaughter's birth name. She has legally changed the spelling to Kaylee which I am not happy about but I'm just the grandma! There's more to that story but for another day. I'm so glad you got to meet Kali's family and that it was a lovely afternoon with them. Sounds as if you have great kids!
