Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 201
From Joyce, the author of this wonderful meme: A winter wedding + Christmas = not a lot of time to blog. I do however always have time for the Hodgepodge. Almost always anyway. Here are this week's questions...hop back here tomorrow to share answers with the universe, and find out who won the giveaway.
Also, thank you for the wonderful questions submitted as part of the giveaway. I'll sprinkle them into the next several Hodgepodges, and will link back to the brilliant bloggers who came up with them when I do.
1. What is one new holiday tradition you'd like to establish, or one you've established recently, say in the last year or two? Sorry. Nothing new here. For the last 15 years, we have spent Christmas Day pretty much the same way, with friends rather than family, and then going to a movie. I would love to establish an old fashioned family Christmas again, but that won't happen. We do go to Naples, to be with our grandchildren, the weekend before Christmas, which we LOVE, now that they are so close.
2. It's the second week of December. Have you sipped a cup of eggnog yet this month? Wrapped a gift? Opened a gift? Kissed someone under the mistletoe? Lit a candle? Eaten a Christmas cookie? Seen Santa in person? Watched a Christmas movie or special? Read scripture relating to the birth of Jesus? Can't stand the taste of eggnog, but Joe has been consuming gallons of it (no alcohol). Yes, we light the Advent Candles in our Advent Wreath, and I have a balsam scented candle that I have burned twice. I have wrapped a couple of gifts for the giving tree at church. No Christmas cookies yet. Have not been to the Mall to see Santa. We have watched a couple of Christmas movies (Scrooge and Christmas Vacation). And yes to the scripture, though my daily Bible readings have me in Revelations, of all things for this time of year!
3. Do you think it's better to be an adult or a child at Christmastime? Explain. Oh, I definitely have to say to be a child. No stress (unless you have been very naughty) and the wonder and joy of the season is so new and special and untainted. Definitely a child.
4. It's often said, 'Good things come to those who wait'...agree or disagree? Why? I have such a struggle with patience, so I know well that saying! Ha! I think it is probably true to some extent, but you can't just sit back and hope something will happen!
5. What's the last sweet thing you baked? Did you keep it, take it to a party/event, or give it away? I baked fresh banana bread Sunday and we are eating it.
6. This question comes to us courtesy of Jhona who blogs over at The Red House at the End of the Lane. Everyone hop over and say hi to Jhona this week! Here is her question... "I heard an actor talk about how he makes a conscious choice to talk to people in elevators. He chooses to connect, make eye contact, and converse. Do you talk to people/strangers when you're in an elevator or any other place where you might have to wait together? Why or why not?" I usually talk to people in elevators, and especially at work. We are always trying to engage our visitors. I especially enjoy talking to the kids on the elevator about the art they have seen and what they like best.
7. Are you on the naughty or nice list this year? What put you there? I hope I am on the 'nice' list. I don't think I've been naughty for a long long time. LOL
8. Insert your own random thought here. We are enjoying having Jeff here with us! The Museum staff Christmas party is Friday night, and he is going with us!! Families are invited, so he is included. If Lauren gets to come (haven't heard yet) she will also go with us. I am also hosting my lunch-bunch girlfriends for our annual Christmas get-together. There are six of us, but rarely can everyone attend our luncheons. Most of the time it is just four of us, but the whole group will be here at 11:30 Friday, plus a new friend we haven't met yet. Melody lives 2.5 hours away now, and she is bringing a friend with her, named Sue. I'm glad Mel will have company on the ride down and back up. I have taken the day off and am serving ham, rice, a couple of veggies and a big salad. I'll also have a veggie plate and cheeses and crackers. One of us is a vegetarian and one has many food allergies, including gluten. She is bringing her own meat and will eat it with a salad, along with the cheeses and veggies. We make it work. I will also make a red velvet cake for our dessert (and quietly for my birthday). It's the cake my mom always made for me, for my birthday (which is tomorrow!).

Another great Hodgepodge!! Thank you, Joyce! And thank all of you who have stopped by today! Peace, love & hugs!
I always love to come here first thing in the morning and read your blog entry. If ever there was a positive person, you are it. Negative people make my skin crawl. Loved your answers this morning, and knowing you, I probably could have answered them for you! lol You have many blessings on your plate this week, and I hope you enjoy each and every one. Hugs!

ReplyDeleteSounds like a great week ahead for you. Traditions are such a lovely part of life. Enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY, Terri! I love Red Velvet cake but can no longer eat it as I am now gluten free. So you can have my piece, okay?!
ReplyDeleteSo I don't forget ---- you have a very happy birthday. I'd love to have a slice of your cake. And don't worry, I'm pretty sure you're on the 'nice' list again this year.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Friday sounds like lots of fun and especially red velvet cake. I would love to establish the family gathering, but it probably won't happen. I wouldn't mind spending Christmas with friends, but they are all tied up with family gatherings!!
ReplyDeleteI hope your birthday is wonderful.
Stopping by this a.m. to catch up....What a wonderful Friday you have to look forward to! Wishing you many blessings. Mildred
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try your recipe for frosting. I've never made it like this, and you did say it was better than cream cheese frosting I think. The last sweet thing I've made to date is banana nut bread too. I've 'cooked' other goodies too, but they're not edible.
ReplyDeleteYour banana bread sounds so good. Enjoy the party! Hugs
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have done quite a bit already. I'm still trying to get motivated. I do like Eggnog and will have some at Christmas. True there is no stress as a child at Christmas but I did love the excitement on my children's faces. I love fresh banana bread!
