Throw-back Thursday...

The week is winding down! Happy Friday eve!

For the Monday Memory Meme, I posted a photo from Google Maps of the first house I lived in. It's where my parents brought me to when we came home from the hospital, and where we lived until my brother was born and we needed more space.

My folks told me it cost $6,000 and was brand new when they bought it. The first in a new development.  I remember the layout and especially the big back yard, where I had a swing set and sliding board.  I was four when we moved from there to Broadway Street. I've tried finding the second house, on Google Maps, but I don't have the address anymore and haven't found it by just exploring.

On yesterday's Hodgepodge, I talked about family vacations in Canada. I found some of those photos, too.

My "first" house, from Google Maps. Washington Avenue, Washington Court House, Ohio.
On that front porch. My grandma holding me. Mom and Aunt Phyllis (Dad's older sister) sitting, and my dad with his foot on the railing (smoking, it appears).
Me, on my slide, in the back yard. Compare the farm land to the pavement in the Google Maps photo above. That is the garage by my slide. Mom wrote Sept 1954 on the photo. That makes me not quite three years old (December birthday).
Nina's Camp, Rice Lake, in Ontario, Canada. Lots of fun memories from those vacations!
"Our" cabin (3 bedrooms) and that's an outhouse in front of the van. Grandma is standing at the pouch. Our fishing vacations were family affairs, with grandparents all the time, aunts, uncles and cousins sometimes, neighbors (my BFF & her family) sometimes....what fun!!  There were six cabins (or so) and also camping spaces. Our cabin just housed the six of us, and our neighbor, Mary.
Our neighbor, Mary Foley, whom we adopted into the family. She was a 'spinster' who lived in the house behind our house. Loved her like family. She made delicious banana cream pies, too!
My mom, showing off her catch, and my little sister, Tammy.

Thanks for peeking in and reading about my childhood! I was blessed, and know it. Wishing you a good Thursday!! Peace & blessings!

  5. Nice memories. I've looked at the house I first lived in on google maps, too. Kind of a modern way to sneak back into the past.

  6. Isn't it fun to go back and look at old pictures and re-live so many great memories? Don't know if I told you (may have)--but the house I grew up in is still in my hometown --but the people who bought it have renovated it totally --and I wouldn't even recognize it now... Kinda makes me sad ---BUT at least the people love it and haven't let it go to ruin.....

    Have a great weekend.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  8. I love your pics and your family vacations. What great bonding of the family must have taken place there. You're very cute on the slide. The house looks good still. (That was a very nice looking outhouse at the camp.) :-) Great post, Teri.
