Another Sleepy Sunday - YES!!....

Joe and I had a good Saturday, and are looking forward to today being extremely lazy.  Next weekend, we are off to Naples, for our granddaughter's birthday celebration.

We slept in a bit yesterday morning (and doing the same today!). Got up, showered and dressed, and headed for the Perkins Restaurant, in the next town, 10 miles south of Lakeland, for breakfast. Bartow is also the country seat of Polk County, though Lakeland is much bigger. We enjoyed a good, hearty breakfast and then headed out for Lake Wales. It is another 15 miles or so, east of Bartow. Our mission was to visit the brand new Rural King store that just opened a week or so ago. We have shopped at the Rural King, near my grandmother's house, in Xenia, Ohio, but this is the first one we have ever seen around here.  Y'all may have them on every corner "up north" but we were excited to have this one only 25 miles away.  It is a farm and home store, with some pretty great prices.  Here is the link:  RURAL KING.  Doesn't take much to entertain us!!

We went to church (4:00 Vigil Mass) and I bought some candles for our Advent wreath, from the gift shop.  Our church women's group runs the gift shop (religious articles) and we earn upwards to $15,000 a year doing it.  I got all five candles for $6.75. You can't find them at that price anywhere else!!  So my Christmas shopping has officially begun...

I'm seriously considering not putting a tree up this year. Is that awful? I'm not planning any holiday parties this year and no one is coming for Christmas (we're getting everyone for Thanksgiving). It's more work to take down than to put up. I'm really thinking about how much work it is to put everything away. Sigh. I'm a total bah-humbug.

Joe and I are planning our 30th anniversary get-away. We went back and forth about whether we wanted to try another cruise. We had a terrible experience the first (and only) cruise we took.  We went on the Norwegian Windward (20 years ago +/-). The ship was small, the seas were terrible - 20 foot swells, and I got seasick the first day out. For meals, we were put with a couple we had nothing in common with, and they didn't even want to try being polite. It was just a terrible time for both of us. Said we would never go again. So....we are going to New Orleans and may still try a cruise later. We love New Orleans. We avoid Bourbon Street, but enjoy Emeril's restaurant, NOLA, and The Court of Two Sisters has the best brunch, ever. Preservation Hall is a must. We will visit the art museum, and I would like to go to the zoo this time. I also want to do one of the plantation tours. Check out New Orleans history, here:  New Orleans History

The last time we were there, we loved going to Mass in the St. Louis Cathedral, on Jackson Square. But, as you can tell, most of our excitement centers on food...and the Cafe du Monde is not to be missed!!  We are also looking forward to visiting the French Market again. Love New Orleans.

Do any of you live near New Orleans? We already have plans to meet up with my 'old' Multiply blogging friend, Vic (and his Tina). We hope to be there the week of May 11th.  Dates are still being worked out with reservations, etc.

That's enough for today. I appreciate that you stopped in and will enjoy your comments. Wishing you a good Sunday!! Peace, love & hugs.

  1. I have always wanted to see New Orleans. Hubby doesn't want to so I probably won't ever get there.

I never heard of Rural King. Sounds interesting.
    Have a great day!

  2. I'm thinking about putting up a different kind of Christmas tree this year. I know I've expressed my opinion on cruises before, so going to New Orleans sounds like a fun idea and meeting an internet friend to boot.

BTW, I'm not familiar with Rural King. At least I didn't see any near Cincy.

  3. I took a cruise and it was delightful, but, and please dont be mad at me, but it was like a 'floating Florida' to me, and I had been to Fla so many times down thru the years...lol. I have visited NO several times, and eaten at the restaurants you mentioned. Those folks know good food! Jenn went with a bunch of her teacher friends and brought me a CD from Prerservation Hall. Sounds like a good time to come. Glad you have this weekend to rest. We dont have a Rural King either, but looks like they have it all!

  4. Going to New Orleans does sound like a great idea. So much history! Rural King hasn't made it to Wisconsin as far as I know. We have Farm & Fleet here, sounds somewhat similar. It's been getting harder and harder to find Advent candles around here. I've noticed that the past few years. I don't like the putting up or taking down of the Christmas tree. Wish the kids would do it for me. Lol

  6. FArm King looks like fun - - - sort of like our Tractor Supply but looks like yours offers more with the toys, etc.
We had a Christmas like yours a couple of years ago. We decided to just decorate a couple of areas in ONE room only - - - buffet top and a couple of side tables. It was enough. Didn't seem right to have nothing. Gave me a break and I felt more like decorating the next year because of it. I agree - - - it is a LOT to put up and take down - - - time that we don't get back. I like using the energy to be with the family but now that we have the grandson - - - we are back to hauling stuff out again.
I have a picture to send you of where I used to live in Lakeland but my GOOD scanner is giving me fits. It will only show half the pic when I go to edit it. Grrrrrrr

  7. I've never heard of Rural King. I will have to check out the link.
The last two cruises we went on, we opted for the open dining and enjoyed very much meeting different people every day. We weren't stick at the same table every day, although I will say in other cruises where we were, the people were usually very nice. Our JOurneys of Paul, New England and Alaska cruises were all very large ships which weathered the storms. Haha!!
New Orleans has never appealed to me. Maybe I don't know enough about it, but the tour of homes does sound good.
And although I love Christmas trees and decorations, it is very tiresome getting it all out and then taking it down. Bah-humbug!! And I am not a decorator. I simply enjoy the colors and the tree and the little sentimental thing I put out around the house. Happy Sunday.

    1. Oops. You know I meant "stuck."

    2. Yes, figured that's what you meant. The cruise we took didn't offer free seating like most of them do today. We would probably enjoy one today on a larger ship. We'll see....
