Throw back Thursday! And guess who just digitized over 300 old photos?!! You will get so tired of my throw-back posts! LOL
This is my great-uncle, Jim. He is my grandma's brother. Uncle Jim was a very talented artist, though he worked in a factory to support his family. Before he was married, he was in the military. When he was discharged, he worked his way across the United States, painting advertising on barns. I'm sure most of you are familiar with the advertisement below. There is a good chance that if you see one faded on an old barn, he may have painted it back in the late 1940s.
This 'shed' was in my cousin's backyard. Uncle Jim painted it for him. So glad we got this photo, because Uncle Jim is gone, now, and my cousin and his family moved away from this home.
This is Uncle Jim and my grandmother (my mom's mother). I've mentioned before that one of my cousins is Justin Chambers, movie & TV star. Uncle Jim is his grandpa. I haven't seen Justin in person, since 1993.

I will be at an accounting seminar, all day today, in Tampa. It is an annual educational opportunity for clients of our (the Museum's) accounting firm. It is free and includes breakfast and lunch! When I get home, I need to get the guest room made up and get some cleaning done. Lauren will be here tomorrow afternoon!
We are SO looking forward to having Lauren with us this weekend! There is an event at the Museum, and I have to work, but she and Joe will come and enjoy being there, while I work. I'm so excited that she is coming to see us!
Thanks for stopping by! Have a blessed Thursday!

I remember this sign very well. It was the first thing we saw on our way to school in the small town of Bethel KY. This town is little more than a ghost town now as they've built a road round it and the school's closed. I wonder if the Mail Pouch sign is still on the barn. That is so cool that maybe your great-uncle painted it a barn in Bethel KY!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Lauren's visit!
That is neat that you have all these old pics and know who they are. My family wasn't good at labeling. We have all these pics with no names + no idea who they are lol
ReplyDeleteI never tire of your TBT pictures and appreciate that you share with us. That is really neat that your uncle painted those barns all across the country. I dont have to say enjoy Lauren, because I know you will.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing about your Uncle Jim, Terri. He looks like a gentle person...one who actually listened to someone when they were talking.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with Lauren!
I love the mail pouch barns, so I really enjoyed reading about your uncle!
ReplyDeleteI know you'll have a great time with Lauren. The seminar, on the other hand sounds pretty boring. :)
I will never tire of your photos..love, love each one of them. Thank yo ufor sharing. Blessings
ReplyDeleteI love seeing old pictures of your family. It gives us an opportunity to see your life as it was "back in the day". The next time I pass a barn with artwork on it, I am going to be thinking of your Great-Uncle Jim!! Can't wait to see pictures of Lauren's visit! Have a wonderful day, Terri!
ReplyDeleteHello! Love the photos. I just want to say hello and thanks for always being there. Love, sandie
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing those signs. I'm trying to remember, but I think there's one just outside of town. Like you said it's faded and the barn is very old. If I do see one, I'll try to get a picture of it. Not sure if it would be your uncle's tho'.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your pictures, so don't stop.
Hope you all have a good weekend.
Now there is a piece of history. How neat to hear about the man who painted those. Your throwback photos are fun, as well as interesting. Enjoy your granddaughter!
ReplyDeleteNo kidding! How cool is that! And yes, I've seen lots of barn signs like that, especially big in Pennsylvania. Your Great-Uncle Jim looks like a pleasant fellow. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool, both about the barn advertising and Justin Chambers being your cousin! Fun TBT!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child on a family road trip, I loved spotting the barns with advertising painted on them. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis was a phenomenal read today Terri!! I enjoyed learning about your ancestors. He was attractive, and looks extremely happy!!
ReplyDeleteps...had to read about your cousin as I have not heard of him...yes, I live under a rock...not too much watching of entertainment on TV y'know...and have never watched Grey's Anatomy.
DeleteI can't get over the fact that he slept two hours only....hope the admission to get help...helped!!!
It did. He has 5 children and a lovely wife. The kids are all into music. I'm sure that had something to do with the sleep problem! I believe he is fine now. Haven't heard otherwise. I am in touch with his parents, by email.
DeleteWhat a great little building. What an interesting job he had - he was good at it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know this slogan so I must be too young..hee hee
