Monday-Tuesday Post....

My Monday alarm went off way too early, but I got up and went to work. I thanked God for a job to go to, actually. A car to travel in, co-workers I care about. Praise God. I'm still ready to win the Lotto and retire, however. In a heartbeat.

After such a busy and full weekend, my Monday had nothing exciting going on to report, so I'm doubling up on a Monday and Tuesday post. There is nothing scheduled for Tuesday, either, other than an alarm that will go off before I really want to get up, but I will. I'll be thankful for a job and a vehicle, and co-workers I care about.  The Lotto drawing is Wednesday night. Wish me luck!!

Some happenings in history, on June 24th:

1717 - 1st Free Masons' grand lodge founded in London (My dad was a Mason.)
1884 - John Lynch is 1st black elected chairman of Republican convention (A Republican freed the slaves, too.)
1901 - 1st exhibition by Pablo Picasso, 19, opens in Paris (Picaso said "The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.")

Thanks for stopping by. Maybe my Wednesday post will be more exciting!

  2. Interesting happenings. Was wondering if you can give me a clue how I might start finding out about an artist. I went to an estate sale and picked up a pretty little oil painting by an artist with the name of Livesey. On the net, there seems to be many by that name. All the sites I've looked at seem to be auction houses and don't show examples of the works. Might you have any ideas about how else I could go about discovering more about this artist?

    1. Karen, if you aren't having any luck on-line, you really need to visit a gallery, or an auction house that specializes in art. You could also try an appraiser, though they would have to be experienced with art. A museum, unless they have the artist in their collection, would not be of much help. We have people bringing stuff in all the time, and we can't help them. An appraisal company is probably your best bet. Is Livesey the only descriptive on the painting? No stickers on the back? I would call ahead and chat, before you just show up with the painting. It will save you some running around.

    2. PS...you could call a local art museum and ask if they have a list they can share, of art appraisers. We have one we can give out, since we aren't able to help. I'm sure other museums do the same.

  5. Love Picasso's version of washing the dust off life...his life musta been quite dusty for his paintings are most always quite bizarre. Like 'em tho. lol

I've never won the lotto...but I've never played either.

  8. Most people in Spain play on the lottery at Christmas, and all but a few call the day of the lottery the day of health, meaning they didn't win.

  12. You are going to love retirement. I do. I am still very busy but love walking to my own drummer. But you are right to Praise the Lord for a job as so many can't find one. It is crushing to the human spirit to not have a job to support oneself and family.
