An old fashioned Hodgepodge....

Joyce, From This Side Of The Pond, keeps us thinking every Wednesday!! Visit Joyce HERE and join in the fun. As she says, newcomers are always welcome!

1. The expression 'mad as a March hare' originated with a fictional character who is distracted and frantic. When were you last 'mad as a March hare' and what was it that made you that way?  Well, to risk bringing up the subject of so many of my January/February posts, I was distracted and frantic when our house was so torn up during some renovations. Being 'mad as a March hare' didn't make the work happen any faster, however, so it was just wasted emotion. Live and learn.

2. Mardi Gras this year falls on Tuesday, March 4th. Have you ever been to Mardi Gras, and if so what did you think? If not, do you have any interest in going?  Purple, green, and gold are the colors of Mardi Gras. Which one is most prevalent in your wardrobe? How about in your home?  Our church has a Mardi Gras carnival (last weekend), and that is the only Mardi Gras celebration I've been to.  I have NO desire to be in that crazy crowd in New Orleans. None (though I love visiting New Orleans!) . I am not a 'jump in the crowd' person.  Purple and green are two of my favorite colors, and I have more green in my closet, than purple right now.  Our house is painted green (outside) with a darker green trim and roof. No green, purple or gold rooms inside the house, though.

3. Are you old fashioned?  In many ways, yes.

4. Do you carefully plan your vacations, or do you prefer the days to be more spontaneous?  Carefully planned as to time and place(s), but ready for any spontaneous fun that comes along.

5.  March is National Sauce Month...what's your favorite sauce, and what do you most often top with this sauce?  Spaghetti sauce is about the only sauce allowed in our house, and I have to make it from 'scratch'. Joe is Italian (first gen American) and doesn't like sauces and gravies, other than tomato sauce. He doesn't even like pesto!!  MY favorite would be anything cheesy and/or buttery, and garlic is fine.....

6.  What's something that easily brings a tear to your eye?  Stories about kids and animals. I shed more happy tears than sad ones, I'm pleased to say. I'm a sucker for those military surprises, when dad or mom show up at a school event to surprise their child, for instance, and for stories about animals that have happy endings. I also love to laugh until the tears flow. Laughter is so good for you!

7. If you could own any sports team, which one would it be and why?  It would have to be the Philadelphia Flyers or the Eagles.  I could care less, but those are Joe's favorites (along with the Villanova Wildcats - his alma mater) so it would have to be a Philly team, and the reason would be to make my sweetheart happy!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  And speaking of the Philadelphia Flyers, I scored FREE tickets for the Flyers vs Lightening game on April 10th, with free reserved parking!!  Joe will be thrilled!! Whoot!!  We try to go to a Flyers/Lightening game each year, but missed last year.  Fun!!

Thanks for stopping by my Hodgepodge today!! I appreciate your visit and your comments!  Peace, love & hugs.

  1. Good morning, Terri! I don't think I could handle New Orleans during Mardi Gras either. Too much craziness! I love all kinds of sauces. I think my favorite is creamy garlic parmesan that I get on chicken wings...yum! I agree with you..stories about animals and kids make me cry. Also stories about the elderly make me cry. There is no question that I would LOVE to own the Detroit Tigers! LOL. Congrats on scoring the Flyer tickets! Joe is going to be so happy!! Have a wonderful Wednesday, my friend!

  2. I didn't know you had a Philly connection. I grew up on the NJ side of Philly, and those are my 'hometown' teams. I spent four years of highschool homeroom sitting beside the son of the Flyer's then coach (Fred Shero). When I visit my mom we always have breakfast in the diner and see Bobby Clarke there often. If I were to own a Philly team it would be the Phillies. My brother and sister in law own a running camp in partnership with Marcus O'Sullivan, a very well known Villanova alum, and Olympic athlete. So that's some of my Philly trivia-ha!

  3. I have always wanted to see New Orleans. I would hate Mardi Gras, too crowded. Phillies are my hubby's fave team too. He grew up in Philly, He doesn't watch football or hockey very often.
    Have a great week!

  4. abused animals and/or children break my heart. went to mardi gras as I said yesterday, but it was when I was 23 and compared to what I see now days, I would never go. I just love the city of N.O. and the old parts and beauty of it. I like to plan where to go and when, but when I get there, am willing to see and do anything!

  15. Learning to stay calm because getting all flustered does not help was a hard lesson for me to learn. But, as I watched the husband do this, I realized how dumb it is. That was YEARS ago and he still does it. Ha!

  19. I hate crowds too, which is why I'm glad we didn't have lunch in the centre at Christmas. I love sauces and Spanish cuisine has lots of sauces that beg to be sopped up with bread. And I'm a big cry baby. I don't care if it's a movie. If it's sad, I cry.
