If my morning routine gets messed up, I am off kilter for the entire day. My morning ritual is what gets me going and keeps me going. Kind of scary, actually. I get up at the same time, Monday through Friday. I go through the same motions and it is so ingrained in me that I don't even have to look at the clock. If all goes according to plan, I am pulling out of the driveway at the same time, without even checking the time. I don't even need the alarm clock most days, because I wake up automatically anyway.
There have been times, when we have company, that one of the guests feels s/he has to get up and spend time with me in the morning. I LOVE that someone wants to do that, BUT.... it messes up my routine and my day starts crooked. The same happens when Joe has to get up earlier than usual to go somewhere. I am used to having the bathroom to myself in the morning.
Am I the only one who does this? Am I OCDing about my morning routine? Maybe I should make myself change it up now and then?
We had a horrific storm yesterday afternoon. I was in a 2-hour meeting during the whole thing (but we could hear it!), and it had thankfully stopped by the time we could leave work at 5:15. Trees were down all across town, some folks lost power, and one of the palm trees fell across the main drive into the Museum's parking lot. The city workers were cutting it up when I was leaving, and we were lucky that it didn't hit any of the cars in the parking lot. Really lucky!

Wishing you a good Thursday (Friday Eve!). Peace, love & hugs!

I like my morning alone quiet time too. I drink my tea and catch up on the computer.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I am the queen of OCD, morning noon and night...lol So you are not alone my dear friend. If I get caught with an add-on, I go into panic mode...but when you have done something for so long, it is hard to adjust, I know.
ReplyDeleteBob and I are masters of morning routines. If someone was to video tape us, I'm sure they'd get a laugh out of it. We pass each other in the hall and not say a word. When his feet hit the floor each morning, I know approximately what time I can have the bathroom to myself. In the meantime, I'm all over the house doing things to get our day going. But if our daughter comes in with the boys for me to take care, it messes up everything. However, since our retirement, I've learned "to bend". If I have no appointments, I can handle it.
ReplyDeleteThat's good the trees didn't come down on your car. Sounds like a really nasty storm. We had one Tues. that shook the ground. You have a great day. ♥
Very lucky that the tree didn't smash a car. At least you didn't have to be out in it. That would have been scary!
ReplyDeleteI don't like altering my schedule either when I'm working. It's the way I know I'll get all my preparation done and not have to do it hurriedly. I like all my class plans to be well-organized even if I'm not always organized in other aspects like now. I have to start packing and I hate it! Won't someone please do it for me?
Nobody here likes storms either. Glad you were safe. Too bad about the downed trees.
ReplyDeleteMy body clock wakes me in the morning. Even if I've gone to bed unusually late I'll still awaken at the same time. I like routine, and I'm okay as long as I have my first 1.5 hours alone. :-) Yeah, I suppose you could call that rigid and inflexible, but it's only 1.5 hours. :-)
M-F during school we have a strict time schedule that has to be followed. In the summer it is more flexible when I get up and when I go to bed. There are pros and cons together.
ReplyDeleteSince both our girls have moved out, I acquired the hallway bathroom and it's MINE! However when we have company, I have to move back in with my husband in our master bath. That doesn't work well with either of us anymore. I have gotten spoiled with MY morning routine and don't like it disrupted - - - but it's worth it for some of the company we get!
ReplyDeleteSince we are both retired my morning ritual is to make sure all the dogs and cats have water and food then I visit with my sister on Skype until my hubby gets up, he sleeps later than I do. I am glad we have all our pets to keep me busy.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were safe from the storm. I hope all who lost power had it back quickly and hope no one was injured or lost property. Hugs
