The Wednesday Hodgepodge is Back!!

The Hodgepodge is back!  Joyce is amazing to keep this going for all of us!  Thank you, thank you Joyce.  This fun is missed when you are busy elsewhere and twice as sweet when you bring it back! Most of us know how much you have going on in your life, so thank you!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 280

Sorry I dropped the ball last week, but it needed dropping. Whew! Happy to be back in the Hodgepodge this week, and here are the questions. Answer on your own blog, then hop back here to share answers with the universe. Here we go-

1. What's changed in your life, home, or community since your last birthday?  Well, Joe had a stroke in February and that was life-changing for both of us.  Home and community are pretty much the same, but my birthday in December brings Medicare with it and my retirement not too many months after that.  This question next year will garner a much longer answer!!

2. September is Classical Music Month. Do you like/listen to classical music?  No.  If so what's a favorite piece and/or who is a favorite composer?  I'm not a classical music lover but do listen to it occasionally.  I don't seek it out often, preferring jazz to classical if I want instrumentals in the background.  I DO, however, appreciate the complexity and talent.  I played a musical instrument and concert band led us into a few more classical pieces, though again - not my favorites.

3. Besides The Bible, what's a book that has positively changed your life, relationships, career, or perspective?  Oh my, I'm not sure how to answer this question.  I've read hundreds of books.  How so?  I can't imagine life without books, including my Bible and my daily devotionals.

4. I read (here) these ten hobbies will make you smarter...play a musical instrument, read voraciously, meditate regularly, work out your brain (puzzles, sudoku, board games, etc), exercise often, learn a new language, write your feelings down (blog, journal, just write), travel to new places, cook different kinds of meals, participate in sports actively

Are any on this list your current hobbies?  Yes.  Which hobby on the list would you be most inclined to try? I have played a musical instrument; I read voraciously; if daily prayer counts as meditation, then I meditate; I don't exercise; I don't enjoy working puzzles; I don't play sports; I already cook new things and we do some traveling. I guess that leaves learning a new language.  I would love to know Italian and wouldn't it be great to know what the Viet Namese nail technicians are talking about while they do your nails?

5. What sports traditions does your family have?  No traditions, other than watching the games when they are on TV and we try to see the Phillies in a spring training game and the Flyers when they are playing the Lightning over in Tampa. At our house, we are all about Eagles football, Flyers hockey, Phillies baseball and Villanova basketball.

6. In a few words, weigh in on the current football/National Anthem brouhaha. Keep it family friendly please.  Just show respect (and grow up!).

7. Where do you have loads of patience, and where do you most lack patience?  I have no patience in the car, stuck in traffic (but I am not dangerously impatient).  I have learned to be pretty patient in all other situations.7  There are exceptions now and then.....

8. Insert your own random thought here.  We had a great time last night meeting up with my cousin and his wife!  I did make a mistake, though.  John is the oldest of three, not the youngest.  It's been that long since I saw him. I couldn't remember if Sean or John was the oldest.  John's wife, Rhea, is a sweetheart and they are expecting their first child in March.  I grew up with John's'dad like he was my big brother.  We spent some time remembering, but more time just getting to know each other. It was great fun!  We met them at Joe's Crab Shack, over in Kissimmee.

I'm happy you stopped by today!  Happy Wednesday!!  Peace & hugs.

  1. Again I'll say it....I love how close all your family is and how important it is to you. Wish it were like that in all families...but, alas, it's not. :( Great answers....I know you're so looking forward to retirement....except the packing and moving. Wish I were close by and I'd surely help. Happy Wednesday!

  6. Retirement for me, is all I wanted it to be. I worked for so long, it is nice to do pretty much, what I want, when I want it, and I hope it is the same for you. So glad you got to spend time with family. You are such a well-rounded person, I am surprised you dont already speak Italian! Have a good day my friend.

  8. Happy Wednesday to you!! I had to laugh at your answer about the girls who do you nails because I think the same thing. The girl who does my nails is named "I" I don't know how she spells it but that's how it's pronounced. She is under 5' tall and looks like a little doll. Her hands are so tiny, she makes mine look like I'm a giant!! She is precious and I love her. Always enjoy reading your answers. btw, it was so nice that you a good visit with your cousin, the food looked yummy!!

  9. I hope that all goes well with your retirement. :)

I am glad that you folks had a fun time with the kids and how exciting they're expecting their first baby. I remember that time for me, 30 years ago. It is such a special time.

I can't imagine a life without books, either. That would be horrible.

    Have a wonderful week, Terri!

  10. Your photos of dinner made my mouth water, it all looks so yummy! Getting fresh seafood here in the mountains is impossible. I lived in Florida for many years and miss eating at a good seafood shack along the water. Have a good week.
    Cheers!

  11. It would be fun to learn Italian. I would like to learn French better but I'm so clueless when it comes to languages. My husband shines in that department.
Wish my family was as close and loving as y'alls but, well, it's their choice. It warms my heart that you have that camaraderie.
Hope your day is blessed. ~:)

  12. LOL....I agree with you on the nail technicians. I have always wondered what they are saying.

  13. It was good to 'catch up' with you today. Yes, it might be good to know what those nail technicians are saying...but then, again maybe not :)
Yes, if you retire next year, life will be very different this time, next year--but it's a good different.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

  14. The Vietnamese nail techs chatting away to one another is, in large part, the reason I quit having my nails done professionally. Paranoid, 'party of one'! :)
Plus, I think it's just rude when you're perfectly capable of speaking English but choose not to. We've got some of that going on here at work with the Latino folks; and my boss gets so mad. She's likely to call them on it and ask, "Would you like to share with the rest of the group?"

I like your necklace in the dinner pix!

  15. We used to work for some people from Bangladesh. After a while, we were able to get a general idea about what they were saying. If they only knew that we knew, they might not say it.

  16. It must be exciting looking forward to retirement. I loved your brief but succinct reply to #6 and yes I think prayer counts as meditation. Enjoy the rest of the week :)

  19. I hope I didn't imply that SWMBO and I argue angrily about our political differences. We do not! We love each other too much to let this nonsense come between us. I see that you're part PA girl and part FL girl with respect to sport allegiances. Good for you! Enjoy the rest of your week!
