Thanks to our hostess Joyce for today's questions!! You can join in HERE!
FIRST... I got my power back yesterday, mid-afternoon!!!
Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 573
2. It's Department Store Day (October 16)...do you still shop in department stores? If not, do you miss that kind of shopping experience? Do you have a favorite department store? Any fun memories of department store shopping when you were a child? I shop at Belks, Target, Kohl's, and I think Walmart could actually be called a department store. We also have Dillards here in Lakeland but it's in the dying mall 10 miles north and I haven't been up that way since before covid.
When I was growing up, we did special shopping excursions in Columbus at Lazarus. We got dressed up to go shopping "in the city" back in those sweet precious days. I especially remember the animated windows at Christmas. It was a true wonderland.
3. Something you're currently nuts about? My new vinyl planks, waiting to be installed. My house looks terrible right now with guest bedroom paraphernalia piled on every available surface in every other room. It is making me a little nuts, but I am keeping my eye on the horizon.
4. What's your favorite nut and is there a favorite recipe where this nut is used? My favorite nut is the macadamia nut (followed closely by cashews). I LOVE those white chocolate chip cookies with macadamia nuts in them. Oh my goodness, I can eat them like potato chips.
5. On Wednesday, we officially reach the '70 days until Christmas' mark. Have you purchased any gifts? If you don't celebrate Christmas then how about Hanukkah presents? I did pick up a couple of things for gifts a few weeks ago. I have gotten so bad about Christmas shopping. I give money to the "kids" and grandkids. My sisters and I buy birthday gifts but we haven't done Christmas gifts for a long time. For the past couple of years though, my sister Tammy has been coming down for Christmas here and I do get her a few things to open.
6. Insert your own random thought here. You may have noticed above that MY POWER CAME BACK ON yesterday afternoon!! I am sitting here in an air-conditioned house with no orange extension cords trailing in and out of rooms. I am doing laundry - the dryer works! I can cook breakfast on the stove!! I can take a shower in hot water. The things we take for granted... I still count my blessings that my home is not flooded and the roof is intact. Six days without is a new record. I hope I never see it broken.

I always love reading your answers to the hodgepodge questions. I am so happy that you have power restored. Power is such a blessing and something we can hardly do without. Can't wait to see your new flooring! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI love the story of you and Joe. Glad you had the courage to approach him and look what happened!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a nut lover. I only eat almonds in things like salads.
So, so happy about your power. I remember one year when our power went out after a really bad storm and was out for a week - such joy to have it back!
AWESOME NEWS!!! Hurray for power my friend. I know you miss Joe, Terri. Wishing you a lovely day. smiles
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you got the power back on. It's really hard to 'make do' for that long! Love your sweet memories of Joe. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love how you met JOE! That was such a wonderful story. I shop at the same stores - not Target, but Walmart is my main store. I know you can't wait for your floor! I don't care for macadamia nuts or cashews - but I like peanuts and almonds. I can't believe Christmas is so soon! I am so happy your power is back on!
ReplyDeleteHooray for your electricity being restored, Terri! No, I hadn't heard the story of how you and Joe met, and it's such a sweet one. Thanks for sharing here and God bless!
ReplyDeleteDoing without is always a good refresher of what we do have... Congrats.... I having been to a dept store in years. As a child, it was wonderful to go into the cities and see the Stores all decorated inside, and in those days they went all in...complete with Santa!
ReplyDeleteHurray for electricity! Did you feel a little like a cast member on Survivor for a while there? I'm so spoiled; not sure I could do that.
ReplyDeleteMacadamias and pistachios are my favorite ... and yes, those white chocolate/mac cookies could be my undoing.
We didn't have big department stores back home, but anytime my mother had a chance to visit Denver or Chicago? Yep, gloves, hose and heels were the order of the day. Sweet times!
Hooray for the power being back on!! I hope it stays on. Cute story about how you met Joe!! And I so wish I had vinyl planks waiting to be installed. I need new flooring - ugh.
