The sun came back on!!
I have lived in Lakeland, FL, for 35+ years and have experienced more than a few hurricanes. Milton was the worst, though.
My house is still without power in every room. It is not the breakers. The electric arcing during the storm took out a "phase" and there are 11 homes along our street who have power in some rooms and not in others. My stove is off but my microwave works. My AC is off (of course it is) and no outlets in my kitchen work, but the lights do. I am making coffee in my bedroom, which has outlets that work but the light switches don't. My refrigerator is plugged into an extension cord that stretches to my foyer. My TV is plugged into an extension cord that goes to one of my guest rooms. AND, I just remembered to check the power in my shed, which is on and is close enough to the cable outlet for another extension cord to reach my modem and router!! I have internet now!! Three orange extension cords are making my life much more comfortable now. Hallelujah!!
With that said, I haven't been out and about much to look at damages, but did see a lot of trees down and quite a few neighbors here in Mas Verde lost carports, awnings, and shingles from roofs. I was so blessed and lucky to have only a window that leaked. All the noises I heard during the hurricane were from other homes. :(
Here are a few photos I took yesterday morning...
Al and Judy's house, two doors east of my house.
This is a link to a video my neighbor took, looking at my house from theirs. It shows the electrical arcing and sparks flying just behind my house. That is what took out a "phase" that left us with partial power in my house and 10 others on my street. I heard it popping and thought my AC unit shorted out. I also smelled that "electrical" smell that many of you will understand... metallic and not nice. I hope the link works. It is less than a minute and the sparking only happens once. You can hear Bill talking to Lakeland Electric. The wires along the street behind my house were blowing into the metal arm of the street light and that is what caused the rucus.

I had my pre-op lab appointments today, for my foot surgery in two weeks. There are still traffic lights not working and I heard stories from lab-techs of their experiences and what they saw. We all agree that we won't stay for another big one like this was.

So, Milton was bigger than Helene? My goodness. I am glad you have some electricity and hope they get it on soon. Glad your carport roof is okay and your house - you were one of the lucky ones. You won't stay for the next hurricane? What foot surgery?
ReplyDeleteSo glad you re all good. You have been resourceful. Hurricanes are no fun and quite a bit scary.
ReplyDeleteSo thankful you are okay, and that your house is mostly okay. I am sorry about the window leaking, and if water is behind the drywall, you will have some repairs to make there so it doesn't get moldy/mildewed. Hopefully your insurance will cover the water damage. Hope the electrical issues are fixed soon also. Be careful with so many extension cords, etc. praying for your safety and protection...and thankful you are okay. Yes, this storm really went right over your area and I guess it did a lot of damage in your area. It was a strange storm. Praying for so many who have lost so much. I didn't know you were having foot surgery! When? Yikes! I'm sure you will do fine, but I hope you have some friends lined up to help you out at first. Praying for you dear friend. (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful you are ok and that the damage is not as bad as it could have been. I watched the video. scary to see the arcing and sparks.
ReplyDeleteYour tie downs are such a good idea.
I pray for no hurricanes now!
I don't think I knew about foot surgery. Will be praying!
Such a blessing that you are safe, Terri, and that your neighborhood didn't suffer more damage than it did. Hope you get full electricity back sooner than later. God bless you!
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful you are ok, my friend! And how resourceful are you??? Prayers for those who are dealing with all this.
