Tuesday 4

Books to Film

Once again it is time for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.  Did Toni invent it? Who knows. I don't recall but she kept it and other memes going that helped make blogging fun and interesting. She sure provided some subjects to blog about when you had trouble finding things to post about.   I think she'd be pleased to see it continue.   I miss my daily interaction with her very much.

This graphic which is titled books to film inspired today's questions.   I thought perhaps the topic of books turned into films might be of interest. I hope you agree.

Here we go:

1. What book turned into a film did you enjoy?  Hunger Games were pretty good!

2. Did you ever find the film version of a book to be better than the book or was the book better than the film and which book was it.  In my experience, the book is ALWAYS better than the movie.  Movies leave out so much.

3. If you could decide what book should be a movie, which would it be and who would you get to play the main characters?  When I heard that Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books were being brought to the big screen, I couldn't wait.  Then when I saw the movie I was furious.  They got the wrong actors for all of the parts and I think any fan of Stephanie Plum would agree that Katherine Heigl was so wrong for the part.  It really needs a do-over but Sandra Bullock (my choice) is too old to be Stephanie now.  I'm not familiar with new actors so won't even try to go there.  Sorry for the rant. Still bugs me!!!  LOL

4. Have you watched a movie and then had to go read the book or has the opposite occurred and influenced you to see the movie?  I can't think of a movie that inspired me to get the book it was based on.  I really want to see Where The Crawdads Sing.  The book was so well done and I've heard the movie is very good.  We'll see.  I'm usually disappointed when I have loved a book that was made into a film.

Peace & hugs!!

  1. I do think reading the book first often colors our perception of the film. We form images in our mind, and for me then disappoints when its not as I envision it or is left out. I can't think of any that I preferred the film.

  2. For sure #2! I totally agree with your thoughts about the Evanovich movie debacle. All the characters, actually!
I've not get read "Crawdads." It's been years since we went to a movie theater, but now I'm thinking that might be a nice distraction.
    Have a blessed day! xo

  3. I totally agree with you about the movie never being as good as the book - - and sometimes, they will even change the plot a bit. I have been known to sit in the theater and say to myself (outloud), "That's not what happened!" Bill will tell me to hush or we should just leave.
Two things about that - - - I have never been that loud and did not intent to verbally state my opinion but could not curb the injustice done to the literature so it erupted out my mouth - - - - - and we have never left the theater because of my discontent.
Also, we have been to the theater only probably twice in the last three years. Most movies aren't that good anymore and most don't know how to have a conversation without cussing.
I may have read some books after seeing the movie - - I can think of two or three but "Gone With the Wind" was the first time I did that!

  8. I agree with you about being let down in a film if .I’ve read the book. As .I read I usually cast my own film in my mind about it and watch it play mentally as I read. Of course, I’m usually the heroine. Hee hee. Have a great day
