Monday's Weekend Recap...

I just got out of bed because I remembered that I forgot to do my Monday post.  I really don't have much news to write about and no new pictures to share, but...

As you read earlier, Helen got moved on Friday.  I have been going over there each day because I have to give her her meds.  Hopefully, that will stop today and the nursing staff will take over.  They need a form from her doctor and he hasn't been forthcoming with it for some reason.  I called and I know the staff at Brookdale have called a few times.

I went over on Saturday and hung some pictures for her.  I went over yesterday, after church, and clipped her toenails for her. They were a huge mess and had poked a hole in one of her slippers.  The podiatrist doesn't come until the end of the month so I helped her out as best I could.  Her loveseat had some stains on it she was worried about so I took a scrub brush and some cleaner over yesterday and got that cleaned up for her.  She seemed pleased.  We also went for a walk. She was afraid to go out of her room alone so I took her to show her where her mailbox is (she won't remember) and we walked a fairly big circle back to her apartment.  She did great.

Her TV remote is way too small and complicated.  She messed her cable tv up both days.  I couldn't get it back on yesterday... needed a five-year-old to help!! I did call the cable company because they have to come and install the modem for her telephone. They are going to fix the TV, too, and I asked for a friendlier remote for the TV, explaining that she is 93 years old.

I had Elaine and Jim over for some dinner last night and we watched some TV together. That was fun. They are only here for another two weeks. I am going to miss them (and Bella) something awful.  We have a couple of one-day road trips planned soon.  Looking forward to it.

We did go to church yesterday and it was communion Sunday. It feels so different to not have Joe with me but I know that is all part of this new journey I am on.  I love my church and my church family. It will all be well.

Trusting you have had a good weekend!! I still thank you for your prayers and good wishes. Much needed and my heart feels them all.  I continue to send resumes out when there is an online ad for a part-time position that sounds interesting. I need to get out in-person to a couple of agencies, hopefully, this week, now that Helen is settled.

Peace & hugs!  Jesus loves you, and me!

  1. You're doing so much for Helen with such love, Terri, and I'm sure she appreciates it all. Sorry to hear that Jim and Elaine won't be there much longer; they have been a great support to you, as has your church family. Yes, I pray for you every day, multiple times a day, and will continue to do so, my friend.
    May your week be blessed!

  2. Oh I hope that doctor cooperates....why does everything have to be a problem? I know you have so much on your mind right now. Prayers for everything to settle down and you will have some good trips with your friends before they head home.

  3. You hang in there. I hope that the assisted living thing all settles in nicely. To be that age is just hard. You just have to be so grateful for each and every day and good souls like you. Prayers.

  4. I'm glad to hear you've got Helen settled in, and I hope she gets a friendlier remote. My m-i-l is 91, she can still run the t.v. and drive, lives alone, but the short term memory is going. She knows it and it drives her crazy. She is in Zephyrhills. I wish we could have met up, but we are on such a short trip, spending some time at the beach, Madeira Beach, and heading home today already. I'm glad you have your church family, God bless you.

  7. You sure are sweet and thoughtful to look after Helen. When I'm old and feeble, I pray someone will take mercy on me. I have no one except Steve.
Concerning the remote, I saw where someone had the same situation. That person put duct tape over everything on the remote that their (I guess) Mother didn't need and then marked what she does need. Kept her from accidently hitting the wrong button or forgetting what to do.
    Hope your day is blessed!
    Love & Prayers xx

  8. What a clever avatar! Ugh on that doctor's office dragging their heels! (We're in the same situation, waiting and waiting on the VA to authorize Tom's eye surgery.) I don't consider myself elderly exactly, but am constantly messing up the remote. Why on earth doesn't someone invent something user-friendly for those of us non-GenZ.

  9. It's a blessing you are able to help Helen in so many ways, and I'm sure in turn you feel blessed too. I hope a job opens up for you soon. Our tv situation is still a mess but we're just watching less tv-ha! I guess thats one solution. Take care Terri.

  10. Oh my. That toenail story makes me cringe. That had to be painful to have such untrimmed toenails! Bless you, Terri!!!!!

Have a fun two weeks with Elaine and Jim! Then you'll be ready for that job!

  11. I'm amazed at how busy you are keeping yourself Terri but I guess it must help. Helen is very lucky to have you to look out for her. Hope you get all those little problems sorted out and can slow down a little bit. Good luck with the job search.

  13. I feel like I already commented on this, but I don't see it. Maybe I just thought it...anyway, you are really a busy lady and I wouldn't blame you at all if you didn't post anything for a while, but then again, we would really miss you if you did. Just take things one day at a time, and don't let anything stress you. You are an amazing person and such a good friend to Helen...she is truly blessed to have you. And when it is time for you to go to work...the job will be there. So just relax and let God lead. He's got you covered. (((hugs)))

I didn't know Jim and Elaine were leaving. I know how you are going to miss them - extra prayers for you.
I can only imagine how hard some of these things are without Joe. I'm proud of you for pressing on.
