Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Thanks to Joyce for today's Hodgepodge of questions!  You can join in HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 363

Here are the questions to this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge. Answer on your own blog, then hop back here tomorrow to share answers with all your friends and neighbors. From a safe distance of course!

From this Side of the Pond

1. How will you celebrate Easter this year?  Church on Facebook and praising God for giving us His Son.  Helen and Cheryl are coming over for Easter dinner.  We are extra careful when visiting with them but we do try to see Helen (92 years young) once a week.  I'm just serving ham and potato salad, deviled eggs, a veggie, and we will have dessert. I'm not sure of the entire menu yet but will limit it a bit this year to prepared food.

2. Is it easier for you to receive grace offered or extend grace to another? Explain.  Gosh, I don't' think I've ever thought of giving grace.  I've always felt blessed to receive God's grace  (getting that which I do not deserve).  Whenever I think of grace and mercy it is from God.  I hope that I emulate that in my relationships, both granting and receiving,  but I am only human and am sure I mess up on that.

3. Do you say grace before meals?  Yes.  If so do you have a standard dinnertime grace or is it more 'off the cuff'?  Standard, though we do expand on it some at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.  Do you say grace when dining out?  Sometimes, yes.  Do you have a favorite grace?  Heavenly Father, we ask that you bless this food to the nourishment of our bodies and us to thy service.  In Christ's Name, we pray, Amen.  Any special memory associated with 'saying grace'?  No 'special' memory but it is something we did growing up and it continues with Joe.

4. What are some challenges you think the next generation will face?  (Generation Alpha-born between 2011 and 2025)  There is a lot of "depends" on the answer to this question and it will get very political if I continue. I will just say that I hope they are smart and I hope they are still free and that they have faith in God.

5. Share a favorite quote or lyric featuring the word faith.  I had to look this up because my mind wasn't working. I found one I was not familiar with but will share it here...  "Walk By Faith" by Jeremy Camp

6.  Insert your own random thought here.   Our mailbox is at the Clubhouse in a row with everyone's mailbox.  It has become an almost euphoric experience when we drive (maybe 300 yards) to see if the mailman has come yet, and find that the checkered flag isn't flying to tell us the mail is there... this means we can go out again in a couple of hours!!  LOL  I went to the bank yesterday and had to drive around Lake Morton a couple of times just to extend my time out of the house!  I did clean (bathrooms, dust, vacuum, and mop) on Monday and did the laundry.  We have the farm today (they haven't canceled yet) and we need to go to the grocery.  We really need to go to the grocery!!

I posted a Whimsical Wednesday post today, too, so please visit there if you haven't already!

Thanks for stopping by!

Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!

  1. Good answers. That is a good song by Jeremy Camp. I agree with you about the future generations...the political scene is going to greatly influence how the next generations will be able to live and live out their faith. We definitely need to be praying for them to be strong as I fear so many freedoms are going to be swept away if things change too much in the political arena...which we know will happen eventually. We pray not in our life time... I believe you are a very gracious person...and that you do extend grace to those you know and love. It is easier for us to do that as we remember how much grace God has given us. Have a blessed and wonderful Easter. Your dinner sounds good. If I don't get to the store, we will be eating peanut butter sandwiches. LOL.

  2. Our Easter will be spent at church service online as well and we will have a simple Easter dinner - with whatever we already have here. Grace - 'Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.' Enjoy your day at the farm.

  3. I like the traditional grace you say before meals, Terri. Ours is off the cuff, often saying additional prayers for those in need of healing, and thanking God for this day's blessings. Easter will be quiet here, but we will certainly celebrate on line with our church service. Have a great Easter dinner with Helen and Cheryl, and please be safe when out at the store!
    Blessings!

  4. Our saying grace is off the cuff. Always has been and probably will be. Easter is just us three and that's ok. smiles

    Have a beautiful day friend.

  5. Good morning, Terri! It does feel good to get out and about for a bit, doesn't it! Mr. C. is working at the Dallas house and I'm here in Wausau and have walked the neighborhood several times already. Today I might have to drive out to the country and park the car to get some new scenery for walking. The other day when I had the kids on a neighborhood walk, it was fun to see some neighbors 'getting together' with appropriate social distancing in the front yard, a couple of the kids up in a tree. Blessings on you and Joe.

  7. We went to the grocery on Monday and I think I have enough to get us through the next two weeks. We are going to try to stay home as they suggest, in hopes that we can soon be out and about. One of our sweet neighbors made some free face masks for our community. They are much appreciated as my home made ones did not work at all.

  8. Oh yes! The thrill of receiving mail! I hear you on that answer regarding the challenges that are to come for that generation of youngsters. And now I think I will make some potato salad for myself today! Your grace is very similar to ours before eating. I love the way you take care of your older friends.

  10. I'm so glad to hear Helen and Cheryl will be joining you for Easter dinner! Of course, I don't know her, but love her all the same. :))) Great response to #2! Because I found myself struggling to respond to some of these questions, I thought it better to pass this week.

  11. When you go to your mailbox on Saturday, there should be an envelope from Idaho waiting for you!! And, yes, I hear you on question 4. Seems like people aren't at all concerned about giving up their freedoms. One of my friends said last week that she thought the stay-home mandate needed to be an absolute order, with fines for not obeying. I'm like "You want martial law?"

    1. It is so sad that most people aren't thinking about this whole situation and how easy it has been to bring us down, closing churches, businesses... The virus is real, but this feels contrived and staged to me on so many levels.

  12. Thanks for sharing your Easter dinner menu. I had forgot that I must included Deviled Eggs -- one of Tom's absolute favorite foods in all the world!!!

So see, you are not alone when you say your mind is not working. I'm right there with you!

    1. Tom and I would be fighting over the last deviled egg!! LOL I LOVE them and sometimes will just make two eggs (four halves) for breakfast! Put some chopped bacon in them to make a more savory breakfast food! Yum!

  13. Dinner is going to be simple here, too, and just us. Ham and I don't even know what else yet. lol A lot depends on what happens during my trip to the grocery store tomorrow. I love deviled eggs and pickled eggs, too, but won't make them for just us. Sigh.
Great song, I shared it, too.
Hope your day is blessed, Terri!

  15. We aren't having a traditional Easter meal at all. I'm doing a chicken dish that I'll serve over pasta, congealed salad and a green bean dish and rolls. Hope yours is extra special as we celebrate this very special day.

  17. Love your answers on Prayer and Grace. Thank you for the gentle reminder to get back to reading blogs. I loved your answer about the mailbox. Mine is the same way. I had to laugh at myself this morning. I got up and did my hair and make up. Agonized between two tops trying to decide which one to wear. Picked out some matching flip flops. Put on my jewelry. Got in the car. Drove 18 minutes to town. Went to the drive through of the bank to make a deposit. Drove back home. Went in, took off the make up and changed to some "day time" jammies. Oh the excitement!!

  18. I like Jeremy Camp. He visited our church once many years ago. I hope to see his movie in the near future since we were not able to see it at the movies.

  19. I enjoyed your answers. I love that someone else gets super excited about leaving the house, if only to go get the mail!

  20. Your Easter meal sound very tasty! I could eat my weight in deviled eggs and they go perfectly with and and potato salad...almost like a picnic! I have been out about in the car several times without getting out but had to visit a walk-in clinic for lab work a couple of days ago. I have to admit, it made me feel a little uneasy. This too shall pass! Have a wonderful Easter!

  21. I have always enjoyed grocery shopping, but it is a real chore these days. I went Thursday after staying away for two weeks. It is a lot of work to stay 'clean', then to clean the groceries once I'm home, then shower and wash any clothes I wore to the market. Whew. Happy Easter to you! Our menu will be simple too, I felt lucky to find a small ham, but I am enjoying the way the focus seems to be on the day's significance. The timing of this I think gives even non-believers pause. Take care and stay well!
