Unusual Music

Hi! I'm your host Bev Sykes of the blog "Funny the World". . Welcome to Sunday Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. (Past hosts include: Our first - Judd Corizan, Mr. L, Kwizgiver and  Bud)  Cheers to all of us thieves!

Questions from Unusual Music

1. A song that gives you goosebumps.  The Star Spangled Banner

2. A song you hated once but now love.  Can't think of one.  I still can't listen to "I Honestly Love You" by Olivia Newton-John.  Makes me shudder!!

3. Do you remember your first CD?  No, but my first 45 rpm was the Beatles' I Want To Hold Your Hand.

4. Has your music taste changed much since childhood?  Several times. LOL

5. Favorite genre?  I listen to 60s music most of the time and love the Motown sound.

6. What’s a genre or style of music that you just don’t understand? Rap with filthy language.

7. Do you have a process for listening to music, such as listening to the instruments more than words?  I always pick out the brass (especially the trumpets).

8. What’s your favorite thing about your favorite song?  I don't really have a favorite song... I have lots of them that I like to sing along to and the beat and the words are always important.

9. Do you have a favorite decade for music?  The 1960s. Yes.

10. Can you play any instruments?  I played trumpet for 9 years.  I can peck at the piano.

11. Do you remember your first favorite song?  Yes. The Rolling Stones'  Satisfaction. I was probably 12 years old and that started my love of the Stones.   Before that, though, when I was 9 years old I was in love with Ricky Nelson's Traveling Man.

12. What was the first concert you ever attended?  I am not a concert goer but my mom took me to hear Herb Alpert when I was 14 or 15.  We both played trumpet in school and I think she was as enamored with Herb as I was!!

  1. The 60s produced great music - Beatles, Stones, Monkees, Beach Boys etc ... You have great taste, Terri.

  2. My listening habits to music have changed as I've grown older. My favorites are accapella harmony and piano music. I have many playlists on my iTunes, one of them I've named "Peace and Calm." It's all instrumental pieces that help to soothe my spirit when I feel ruffled and restless.

It's so interesting how the music we listen to can affect our thinking, our attitudes, and our actions. Like you, I have no appreciation (and rightly so) for vulgar rap.

  3. These were really fun questions this week! I'm like you when it comes to "I Honestly Love You." Ugh. I feel the same about "You Light Up My Life," too. I don't know about you, but if I don't get hooked by a song the first time, it's not going to happen no matter how much I hear it. I don't like the vulgar or violent or terribly dark stuff, either. Thanks for sharing your thoughts today. Have a blessed day!

  5. Oh I remember Herb Alpert. I still have an album! I should have parted with those long ago, but we have a bookcase out of the way that holds them hidden behind doors, so I still have tons of them.

  8. Terri, I LOVE your new background. Wow.
Absolutely agree with you about rap. How come is that even considered music? My tastes usually run to 60's rock and/or old/classic country.

  9. 60s music is my favorite, too, Terri, though I do like a lot of the early '70s songs as well. I can play guitar, and still love to sing. :)
Blessings for a great week ahead!

  11. The Star Spangled Banner gives me goosebumps too. I don't like filthy language ever, including rap. I like a lot of music - 50's, New Orleans jazz, Contemporary Christian, but not the 60's! It's not often that I disagree with you. :)

  12. Love all your answers. Us old chicks seem to all love the 60s music. That is my main channel on my radio although I do like some 70s stuff, too. Hope you have a blessed Sunday- xo Diana
