Reba is our Saturday 9....

Is There Life Out There?

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Is There Life Out There? (1992)

Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.

1) This song is about a woman who married at 20. It's estimated that the average American groom is 2.5 years older than his bride. Why do you suppose that is?  I haven't a clue. It doesn't apply to me.

2) A 2014 study shows the bigger the age gap in a marriage, the more likely the couple is to divorce. What do you think is the reason for most divorces?  Joe is 14 years older than me and we have been married 33 years. Again... doesn't apply to me! As for why people divorce, I think that is obviously different for every couple but probably boils down to not communicating, not respecting each other, and not having been ready for the commitment of marriage.

3) Reba's second marriage recently ended. Statistics show that second marriages are more likely than first marriages to wind up in divorce. Why do you suppose that is?  I really have no idea since (again) I have no personal experience. Perhaps because one of the people was not as committed as s/he should have been... got out of the first one and can get out again if it doesn't work?

4) This week's featured artist, Reba McEntire, was discovered when she sang The National Anthem at an Oklahoma City rodeo. Have you ever been to the rodeo?  Nope.

5) Reba dropped out of Southeastern Oklahoma State University to go to Nashville and pursue a recording career. In that way, she's like the woman she sings about in this week's song. "She's done what she should, should she do what she dares?" Do you ever regret a risk or opportunity you didn't take?  Nope. No regrets here.

6) Reba's heroine is "dying to try something foolish, do something crazy, or just get away." Does that sound like you? It does not.  What would you do, just for yourself, if time and money were no object?  Just for myself?  At this time in my life? I can't think of a thing.  I would rather include those I love in whatever I do.

7) Reba recently became a spokesperson for Kentucky Fried Chicken. Whose chicken do you eat most often: Popeye's, Church's, Chick-fil-A or KFC?  Publix.  We buy Publix spicy wings more than the others.  I do love Popeye's spicy chicken and Cajun rice; I love Chick-fil-A; we don't have a Church's in Lakeland.  Haven't been to KFC in years - not sure why.

8)
In 2001, Reba starred in her own sitcom. On the show, her character is first an administrative assistant and then a real estate agent. Have you ever tried your hand at either of those occupations?  Nope. If not, which do you think you would be a better fit for you?  Since I've been an office manager, business manager, and an accountant, I guess administrative assistant, but I'm not sure any boss would put up with me.  Nonsense makes me nuts and I'm not a typist or a note/minutes taker.

9) Random question: Which of these superpowers would you rather have -- extraordinary strength or invisibility?  It would be so fun to be able to be invisible!!

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's questions!  You can join this meme HERE!!

Thanks for your visit!  Happy weekend!  Peace & hugs for all!

  3. Definitely invisible at times. I like Reba's singing most of the time and she is about as country as they come! Hope your day is a good one.

  4. Agree with Public Chicken! It's the best seasoned and very meaty. We eat the strips but Bill loves their wings. I am not a wing person - - - don't like chicken skin - - also not enough meat for the work of eating them! LOL

  5. Since I am country to the core I of course love Reba. Love KFC but then we lived in Kentucky for many years, our children were born there. I really like the format of your post...putting your comments in between questions, etc. Blessings

  8. I like your get to the point answers. We had Chick-Fil-A last night because that is what Kate wanted for dinner. I can't remember the last time we had KFC. I think I may be a little partial to Reba because she is from Oklahoma. It's sad that her marriages haven't worked.

  9. It sure would be fun, being invisible! I've never been to a Popeyes, but I love spicy foods.
20 or 30 years ago my answer might have been different, but I'm loving your answer to #6. Without being able to share with those I love, any joy would surely be diminished.

  10. There was a 16 year age difference between my mom and dad. I always thought it worked ok...at least until Dad got older. His health wasn't the best and he didn't want to do the traveling they'd always talked about (or much of anything else) and Mom was still raring to go. He's been gone for 24 years now and it's only been in the last couple of years that Mom has confided it wasn't all as hunky-dory as I thought. Dad was apparently pretty strict and controlling with her (I knew he was with me), but she never let on. The age difference had a similar effect on my sister-in-law and her husband, too. I guess it all depends on what kind of person you are and what kind of relationship you have more than age.

I hate taking notes/minutes, too, and am not very good at it when I've had to do it.
