On and On Saturday 9...

On and On

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

On and On (1977)
Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.

1) This song describes the plight of "poor ol' Jimmy," who caught his girlfriend kissing someone else. Have you ever spied on a romantic partner?  No, not once.

2) In this song, Stephen Bishop sings that he "smiles when he feels like dying." When did you recently put on a happy face, even though you really weren't all that happy?  Gosh, I don't remember.  I typically don't put on an act. If I'm not happy, my face doesn't lie so why try to fake it?  Plus I'm usually a happy, glass half full kind of girl.

3) Stephen Bishop always wanted to be a musician, and as a child, he began playing the clarinet. Did you take lessons -- dance, art, music -- as a child? Yes to all of those.  If yes, did you take them because you enjoyed them, or because your parents made you take them?  I was blessed by parents who let me decide what I wanted to do. They never forced me to do anything. They encouraged me in any endeavor.

4) When he was 12, inspired by The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show, he switched to the guitar and began writing songs. Tell us about someone or something that influenced your career path.  No one influenced me but I have always felt that I was led down the paths I took during my career choices. I have also always been encouraged by those who love me.

5) Stephen Bishop attended Will C. Crawford High School in San Diego. This school requires students to complete 20 hours of community service every year. Tell us about an organization, cause or campaign you volunteered for, either as a student or an adult.  I spent seven years as a team leader for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life.  I volunteered in several areas as a member of the Council of Catholic Women, and several other community organizations I belonged to at different times.

6) In 1977, when this song was popular, Seattle Slew won racing's Triple Crown. Sam's mother has always been afraid of horses. Is there an animal you're uncomfortable with?  I love animals but have respect for any wild animal and would not try to cuddle with one.

7) Also in 1977, moviegoers waited in line for hours to see Star Wars. What's the longest line you waited in recently?  Probably 10 or 15 minutes at a restaurant. I won't wait for much longer than that for anything! Not patient with long lines.

8) The mini-series Roots first aired in 1977. Today Americans are spending more time and money than ever to research ancestry. How far back can you trace your family tree? Thanks to Ancestry.com, I have several lines back to the early 1500s.

9) Random question: It's often said that nobody's perfect. How about you?  I can tell you that I am not perfect.  What quality keeps you from being perfect?  Quite a few but lack of patience is one!!

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's Saturday 9!!

Thanks to you for stopping by!  Peace & hugs.

  2. I once traced my family tree all the way up to the time they were living in it. I found it full of nuts.

I am so perfect that I am too humble to admit it.

    God bless.

  5. I agree, long lines are not for me. We saw Star Wars in 1977 but I think the lines had died down by the time we made it to the theater.

  8. Teri, have you done your DNA with ancestry.com? I am waiting to hear, although I'm fairly certain of what it will reflect because my Grandad had done a genealogy years ago. I would like to like horses, but never had good luck riding them. ;-) Teri, you are a confident and secure person because you were loved and encouraged!!

    2. Thank you for your kind words! I was blessed to be raised in a loving, supportive family in a small mid-western town. Yes, Joe and I both did the Ancestry.com DNA and it has been fun and interesting. Well worth the money, in my opinion. Let me know when you get your results, please! I had a couple of surprises!

  9. Fun answers...My ancestry.com dna test is still sitting on my desk waiting for me to decide whether or not to do it. Maybe I should, huh? It was a gift that I was not asking for, so I have delayed doing it, but seeing that you are happy with it makes me more willing to try. Just got to get up enough "spit" and do it! LOL. Sorry, that was gross. LOL.

    1. Not gross...it's how you do it. Just don't eat before or brush your teeth... follow the directions. It has been lots of fun for us!

I am with you in lacking patience!

  11. Ancestry roots traced back to the early 1500s -- that's an amazing accomplishment!

  12. I don't remember the song probably because I was knee deep in diapers and toys at the time. I've never checked on my ancestry. It is great that you have traced yours so far back.
