Our "weekend" really began on Wednesday. After our time at the farm (with Joe's client) we got home in time for the kids to arrive. Joe and Darlene arrived just after four. We settled in and ordered Chinese food to be delivered for our dinner. Always good! We spent the evening talking and watching TV.
Thursday gave us a lazy morning. Darlene had an afternoon appointment with an orthopedic surgeon in Tampa to consult with about her bad hips. Years of dancing and teaching dancing have taken their toll on her hips and knees. A doctor she saw a month or so ago told her she needed hip replacements, but he wasn't a surgeon. The new doctor said she has arthritis in her hips and will need replacements, but not now. She is too young, though one hip is nearly bone-on-bone while the other is 50/50. He offered to write a prescription for cortisone shots. He couldn't do it because it will take a radiologist to help guide the needles. She will get that done closer to home this week. She is looking forward to less pain. We are thrilled, and she is too, that surgery can be delayed for a few years.
I cooked dinner for us. Chicken tenders, a steamed veggie dish, and sweet potatoes. We had ice cream for dessert. I also had pumpkin bread and pizzelles to munch on.
Friday, we had plans to go to the Lakeridge Winery, in Clermont (an hour north). They were having an arts and craft festival as well as wine tastings, tours of the winery and live music to enjoy. Anne and Paul (from across the street) went with us, so the 'boys' took one car and we 'girls' went in another. Lots of talking on the ride up and lots of fun when we got there!
Joe, Anne, Paul, Joey, and Darlene
From there, Anne had heard of a restaurant nearby that was supposed to be good so we asked for directions and found it was less than five miles away. Off we went, in search of food at The Crooked Spoon. The food was great and we all enjoyed the time there.
Anne had also heard of a miniature White House exhibit that was just around the corner from the restaurant so we drove over there to see what it was all about. Anyone who enjoys miniatures or presidential history would love this place. Click on the pictures to enlarge them so you can see the amazing detail of the miniatures. I'm not a miniature fan, but this collection is the best I've ever seen.
Full-size mannequins with fashion replicas....
Our entrance fee included a year-long membership so we can go back for free if we want to. Not sure we will make a special trip but I can see us taking visitors there.
We got home in the late afternoon. Joe and Darlene wanted pizza later, so we ordered pizza for a late dinner. Always good, especially with family!
The kids headed for home (Georgia) around 10:30. Joe and I went out to run some errands. The people who bought our old house had received some mail for us and asked if we could come by for it. What they really wanted (I think) was for us to see what they have done to the house. Carolyn and Dave have re-done the kitchen with new cupboards and granite counters. It looks fantastic! They also took down the wall between the dining room and living room. It is something we almost did, but we thought it was a load-bearing wall. They decided it is not, and took it down. It really opens up the space and allowed them to flip the dining room area and the living room area. It was fun seeing what they did. Carolyn said the extra leftover tiles we gave to them allowed them to piece together what they needed to cover where the wall was. Both Joe and I talked once in the car that it looks nice, but we sure have no regrets and love our new home and location so much. It was a good time for us to turn it over to new owners and for us to turn the page on the next chapter of our lives.
From there, we went to Sam's Club for gasoline and a few odds and ends. Strange how you can run out of things with extra folks in the house! LOL
Saturday evening, we decided to go to Bone Fish Grill for dinner, since we had a gift card to use and it was Veterans' Day. Bone Fish was giving a free Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer to all Veterans. Joe got his with a "thank you for your service" too.
Guess what Sunday was?!! I did laundry! Joe slept very late so our breakfast was really lunch by the time he got going and I got eggs, sausage and toast made. I finished the Sunday paper and had two cups of coffee before he got up. It could have been a 'jammie' day for me because neither one of us left the house. We watched a GREAT movie on Netflix. If you have any interest in autism, please look for this movie!! 'Temple Grandin' is so well done and it is a true story. HERE is the link to the movie and HERE is the link for Ms. Grandin's own website. So interesting and so uplifting.
Sunday was also rainy all day long. All day long! Good that we didn't have to go out!
Joe has a fasting lab appointment today that is late for fasting labs. I am going with him and then we will find a place to have breakfast for lunch. And with that, our new week is off and running!
Thanks for checking in today! I look forward to visiting your posts and reading about your weekends! Peace & hugs!!

Whew, you are so busy, smiles. I would enjoy that miniature show, smiles. My brother works in Clermont as a fire/medic, smiles. Have a great day, Terri.
ReplyDeleteBusy week for you. Miniature museum looks neat.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I love the miniature exhibit and Joe eating that Bang Bang Shrimp made me hungry even in the morning!! I think I could eat Bang Bang Shrimp for Breakfast. So glad Darlene has a plan to deal with the pain and now can plan for future surgeries.
ReplyDeleteTerri! Thank you for the info on the Presidents Hall of Fame place in Clermont! I did not know this existed.
ReplyDeleteBeloved's birthday is next week, so we are going to make a day trip to see this! I called to ask for admission prices for 2 seniors ($15 each that includes a complimentary annual pass!). We enjoy miniatures and political displays like this.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Great!! Enjoy the birthday celebration. I hope you like the display. I recommend the winery and the restaurant too! One of these days we really need to plan to meet for lunch, Barbara!!
DeleteWhat a jam-packed few days you have had. I love miniatures and so that white house exhibit was fascinating to me. I hope Darlene gets help with her hips and knees. I know only too well how much pain that can be.
ReplyDeleteYou are always so busy doing fun things! I think that's wonderful and I love that you share with us. The Crooked Spoon is a fun name for a restaurant, makes me want to go just for that.
ReplyDeleteYou had such a nice weekend, including that stay home day on Sunday. Glad Darlene got good news and I hope the cortisone helps her as much as it does you.
ReplyDeleteThat movie sounds very interesting.
Well that was certainly a full weekend! I couldn't help feeling bad for Darlene with her hip pain and her eventual surgeries. I hope she can go to Mayo in Jacksonville to have it done when the time comes.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your tour - I learn something new every single day. You are one busy couple!
